In the book The First Wall he was actually in a void shielded containment chamber having a tantrum smashing stuff with his daemon sword and could be heard through it and then landed in the field in the was heard over the top of the siege on the gate. Now I'm thinking about it it was two book, The Lost and the Damned and the First Wall.

Just finished solar war yesterday and I loved it! The scenes with the Emperor and Horus, the battles with Abbadon, Sigismund, and the rest, the plot line with Mersede Oliton was one hell of a twist in my opinion.

In my opinion the real Horus died on Davin, because what he became during the series is not the Primarch I came to love during Horus Rising. Screw you, Erebus.

Thats actually even factually correct. Most of Horus' soul is still within the warp split into 4 main fragments, fighting for the Chaos Gods entertainment. This happened mostly during the Moloch story part, but it also started with Davin where it began to exchange Horus' mind and soul with the puppet strings of the Chaos Gods. I think Horus was kinda a conduit even that served as the primary method of corrupting the Lunar Wolves and is what primarily turned the Vengefull Spirit into the madening shitshow it became.

I don't think that Horus truly died at all. For one thing, Russ's (The Emperor's) metaphysical blade wouldn't have "illuminated" Horus to his folly if he wasn't still the "real" Horus. Also Horus wouldn't regret what he seconds before the Emperor blasting his soul into oblivion if it wasn't the real Horus. I can buy that "part" of his soul is still fighting demons in the warp after Molech but that's about it.

Fulgrim actually states in slaves to darkness that Horus did die on Davin. So thankfully he died uncorrupted and whats left was a pale shadow

Just a side the audio book is a masterful performance. The voices and delivery from Jonathan Keeble especially as you get later into the book... wow. It’s like he’s channeling things from the warp. I was very very impressed.

Just finished listening to the Audio version. Had my hairs standing on end. The interaction between Horus and the Emperor at the end of the book gave me chills. I was disappointed that the Praetorian never spoke with Sigismund. How can he still disown his greatest son.

All I see is praise for this book and yet I have to be honest here: I had to fight my way through it. The Solar War bored me to tears; I think I skimmed past a third of it as I just couldn't get into the story or characters at all. I'm glad to see that many fans enjoyed it but yeah - this one just didn't register with me at all guys. Hopefully it's just a rare miss as I am super-excited for this final act of the story!

There are plenty of chapters/legions who do cool and interesting things, HOWEVER, it seems like it is (more often than not) the Ultramarines who get all the glory/nothing bad happens to/wind up "saving the day" (the siege of Terra, iron cage incident, the devastation of Baal).

Ewan Rodger I see your point with other incidents but they don’t really save the day in the siege but are more just the countdown clock for how long they have to kill the Emperor. The biggest parts of the story for Astartes have always been the roles of the the white scars, blood angels and imperial fists defending terra.

@@jpem4664 I find it interesting that The bois in blue seem to always fall short when it counts (late to the Seige of terra due to warp storm fuckery, prevent Vigilus from falling to chaos but have their chapter master rendered unconscious, drive the forces of the Shadow Crusade out of the Ultramar sector but Calth is rendered neigh uninhabitable) I hope that it's an intentional thing the Black Library writers are doing, it gives the blue bois a bit of depth and makes them a bit more interesting.

I expected there to be more Sphere fleets, since Saturn, Mars, and Terra all have massive shipyards, as well as Jupiter to an extent, due to the Furious Abyss being built there. DOW ship sounds like the traitors' second attempt at an Abyss class, but maybe bigger? or with less-advanced propulsion?

Perturabo gained some kudos from me in this book, short but great cameo as it were Sigismund, who is this guy? Is he a marine or custode or what? Garvial Lokan as a GK rescuing Mercadi against all odds was sick, Lokan just went into top 5 best marines for me Dorne was stoic and badass as well he should be but I get why you love him Valrak Sanguinius telling his brothers that it would end on Terra with Horus vs E. Basically telling us the reader that he already has prophesied his own future, this gave me so much feels and it was a real throw away line in terms of story progression. Little Horus is cool I like him, Abbadon still a douche even back then. Malchador the Sigilite really is a beast, Cowed Lokan like a beast (even if it was only because the woman was there). I think the thing that pulled it back for Malchador was saying yes to his final question as he left the room. Malchador = High functioning Sociopath. Arhiaman was good, might have to pick his series up as I love the thousand sons. Magnus is Magnus and I love him #Magnusdidnothingwrong The Khan is High as fuck right? These were my notes/questions from the book. Cant wait to get the next one and see our glorious angel go all out for the first time

Dorn almost got killed (again) this time by Samus! Had Mersadie Oliton hesistated for just a second, Samus would have killed the Praetorian and won the Heresy for Horus! Samus would then kill Loken, Sigismund and all other Loyalist inside the Phalanx!

@@christiandauz3742 pffff. he killed the beast many times over before mersadie killed herself and banished all the demons back to the warp, he did it without his sword even. Of course the monsters would have eventually killed everybody in the phalanx wouldn't the invasion have been stopped, which would be the scenario every time demons cross into reality, you could say the same of the emperor himself, holding the warp tide yet getting more and more tired as time passes by... in the end that scene showed that rogal dorn was able to kill a giant demon many times over before being near defeat.

If they did, then they would commit all their forces Skulltaker would have been sent to kill Sigismund Warp Ghosts would have gotten involve Gharguloth, Uraka and every other Ancient Daemon Prince would have gotten involved Skarbrand and N'Kari would have appeared Changeling would have assassinated Kane and sabotage the Loyalist Mechanicus Chaos Gods would have revived Argel Tal and many other Chaos Champions at the start of the Solar War

Solar War is easy to read, even if you haven't read all of the Heresy Series. But I would suggest you to read HH44: "The Crimson King" to know why the Thousand Sons fight alongside Horus. It is not explained in the previous Heresy books.
