The Somber Side of "Cindy Cindy" - Live at the Yellow Door Hootenanny - Marc Nerenberg

I posted a home studio version of this new arrangement earlier today, under the title: The Somber Side of "Cindy Cindy" - A Traditional Song Reimagined. That video's description gave an explanation of the origins of this new arrangement , an explanation that was thorough enough to largely repeat here:
"Earlier this week, I was using a mandolin (no, not the musical instrument, but rather, the torture instrument that is used to thinly slice vegetables with a super sharp blade) and I accidentally sliced off the very tip of my left hand index finger. Needless to say (but I'll say it anyway) I can't really use that bandaged up fingertip to fret my banjo. This means my fretting at the moment is essentially restricted to my middle finger to create melodic lines, with occasional use of my pinky as well, to make partial chord shapes
"For some unknown reason, the traditional song "Cindy Cindy", normally a fast dance tune, came into my mind as a tune that might be manageable within these parameters, and I started working on an arrangement of it to play as the opening song of this past Friday's Yellow Door Hootenanny (which I host). As I worked on it, I found a new, rather more somber version, of the usually high spirited song, emerging (s though it had been hidden in the original song).
"My limited fretting was finding chords that were tending towards a more minor keyed kind of sound (or perhaps an ambiguity of whether it was in a major or minor key) which then led me to slow it down, considerably. This, in turn, caused me to reflect upon how the chorus (that talks about marriage and Cindy returning home) seemed to have absolutely nothing at all to do with the content of the stanzas, but which nevertheless suggested that there was some sort of untold story here. And then, two completely new stanzas formed in my mind, to sort of make that hint of a story a bit more manifest. I used one to open the song, and the other one to close it, And thus was born an entirely new version of this old song."
That video was the recording, mentioned above, that I recorded at home on Friday afternoon, as a personal demo so that I could remember what I was doing in the arrangement.
And that demo did, indeed, come in handy!, When I sat down to get ready to perform it publicly, I realized that I had sort of lost the groove that I'd had earlier - so I did need to quickly refresh my memory by playing a bit of the demo for myself on my phone. Luckily, after that memory refresher, I was able to perform it without issue to my satisfaction (and to the audience's as well, it seems, from their reaction at the end). This is, thus, this song's premier live performance video.
This was recorded on my 1927 Whyte Laydie banjo, tuned gCGCE, with a capo at the 5th fret, transforming the tuning into gFCFA (an F9 chord), mostly using old-time thumb-lead two-finger picking, with occasional tiny passages in clawhammer style.
This recording was made on 3 November 2023, in live performance at the Yellow Door Hootenanny, in downtown Montréal, Québec.
