I learned this song in the early 1970s, and though I haven't performed it for a while, I decided to open the Yellow Door Hootenanny (which I host) with it last night. Atypically, I have included a couple of minutes of the spoken introduction I gave then to put the song in context. So I needn't say any more about that here.
This was played on a 1910 Fairbanks Banjo, strung with synthetic gut strings, tuned eAEAC# played mostly old-time two-finger picking style, with some clawhammer style here and there for rhythmic variety. This was recorded on 16 February 2024.
