At this point all I see in Hephaestus is an unpaid employee who gets worked to death 24/7 and has to put up with his employers aka his family who thinks they can expect him to make them high quality products without paying him while also thinking it’s okay to talk about him behind his back

These stories just makes me wonder about athena's strong aesthetic tastes. He thought a half man half snake looks cute to be a son. She turned her victimized priestess a snake monster to save her?. And even thought she done a favor by resurrecting someone as a spider. Weird. Really weird.

Andy Quinn Maybe it’s just me, but I highly doubt that the guy who trapped two greek heroes in the underworld (one staying there for eternity, and the other being let out ONLY because he was just an accomplice) just for THINKING about taking Persephone from him, and who runs the underworld with a helluva lot more vigilance than Zeus does Olympus, would’ve failed to notice Adonis sneaking around with Persephone, let alone allowed him within 9,000 yards of Persephone if he had any suspicion that they were having a thing behind his back. Hence why I personally feel that the alternate version (that Persephone loved Adonis like a son and not in any romantic sense) makes more sense character-wise, but then again that’s just my own opinion.

@siddarth3955
@siddarth3955 4 жыл бұрын
He is attractive. He only has a limp, he could be unattractive compared to other gods or main ones but overall he is considered better. The main unattractive stigma he got is from stories like Aphrodite and Ares's affair and Hera disowning him after his birth. The story of Hera disowning him is probably later addition because as per that story he became a cripple when his mother dropped him on the earth whereas in the Iliad of Homer, Hera and Zeus once have an argument after which Zeus leaves so Hephaesteus tells his mother not to fight with father as noone could help her and further describes how they had a similar argument previously and Hephaesteus tried to intervene and help his mother but Zeus got angry so he swirled and threw Hephaesteus onto the earth thus giving him that injury and a permanent limp. Regarding Aphrodite and Ares having an affair, it doesn't mean Hephaesteus is bad looking. Aphrodite just liked Ares more and it's probably symbolic of how love and War (opposite of love) coexist.

I think people understand Hephaestus was always casted out and taken advantage of by being a work horse for the gods a lot of providers can relate with that. He was coerced by Poseidon who had a grudge against Athena so he took advantage of Hephaestus Loneliness and Innocence and I’m sure he knew what was gonna happen . Hephaestus took his advice acted on his impulses and ruined the only real chance at a genuine friendship and relationship With Athena and who knows maybe she would have given him a chance and broke her vow of celibacy or just continue to be his close friend either way Poseidon didn’t want that to happen & is to blame (so is Hera)for taking advantage of the broken god who just wanted to be loved. I think this story is about how being a product of your environment is not your fault & becoming a victim to your environment can lead to exploitation .The fact that Athena still loved & raised snake legs to not repeat this cycle of trauma unlike Hera kinda proves my point though I’m guessing you prefer the stories of Zeus in disguise bedding women.Or maybe can’t see the bigger picture of the story cause you envision Aqua-man as Poseidon 😂

The old sources either say his seed spilled on her leg or on the ground, so no, she is not the actual mother. Those sources usually say Gaia is the mother, or he has no mother at at. But yes, Athena did sort of adopt him, but she is not the ‘biological’ mother.

Sheesh, Hephaestus gets no break from the other gods - His own mother threw him of mount Olympus - His wife cheated with his brother and had kids with his brother - Poseidon tricked him by using his loneliness and thus ruining the relationship he had with Athena - Probably something I haven't read yet or have forgotten

Tehnically that one with Medusa was actually written by Ovid not as an adding but as a form of criticism for The emperor Augustus. He hated the emperor for both his contoversial laws about marriage and because Ovid was the lover of his daughter who had an incestual relationship with the emperor. So these parts of the myth should not be taken very seriously.

In the oldest Greek myths, gods and demigods have animal characteristics (especially snakes) ... they are called "chthonic" ... that word mean "under or beneath the earth" ... and the name of the child was "Euri-chthonius" means "shake-earth" so it was a way to describe and earth quake....and he is not her son...just a child without parents and she cares about him.
