I mean if we were talking about GUN not facing an repercussions for what they did, then it's pretty accurate to SA2 since they practically become an afterthought the moment the characters go to the desert. Also Eggman miraculously surviving stuff that would kill any normal person is like a pretty noteworthy trait about him. Like he blew up in space twice and somehow escaped a realm where time doesn't exist. It would have been more shocking if he did die at the end of the last film.

I've been feeling like such an anomaly because I saw so much near-rabid praise for this movie, and I just kinda found it aggressively mid outside of the sick major setpiece moment

While Keanu was a good choice for Shadow's voice, he never really had any inflection beyond monotone. It really detracts from scenes that are suposed to be really emotional.
