Finally someone other than me that kinda digs Forces artstyle other than green hill... forces green hill actually uses the same texture from lost worlds windy hill, you would think to fit forces artstle they would have chosen Gens version which is WAY more realistic but no...

Interesting video here. Definitely a lot of great points made in terms of achieving a more unified art direction. Though I think one element to be considered, albeit more on the design side, is the integration with aesthetic and level design. Using the example you did of Crisis City in Generations vs Sunset Heights in Forces, the former achieves better immersion as the level is designed with elements of a crumbling city in mind (lava spires to push down, crumbling architecture to navigate, fire pillars, etc.) The level geometry in Sunset Heights however could be replaced into any aesthetic and would make very little difference. Heck, the only stages I can really think of that feel designed to fit their context are Capital City (which is more due to Infinite's manipulations than anything else) and Sonic's Chemical Plant with the toxic liquid gushing down to slow Sonic. This is why I feel like Forces' as a game tends to be not very memorable as an experience; the art direction and level design feel so divorced from each other whereas, when looking at better 3D Sonic titles (SA2, Unleashed, Colors, etc.), the level themes and design go hand-in-hand from the bouncing cars and steep stairs in City Escape, to the marriage of industrialization and nature in Planet Wisp. And this is coming from someone who doesn't actually dislike Forces that much. Anyway, just thought it would be an interesting perspective to bring up.

This vídeo is fucking amazing. The editing is professional level, even better than most giants of the site. The content is priceless and extremely well presented and demonstrated. While I think that your version of the Sonic pose doesn't really make justice to the power of forced perspective, it definetly helped getting the point across to the audience and i can always apreciate that sort of investment. The comedy is amazing, normally i only laugh this hard when a video has every slur in the known dictionary or it's a tf2 gmod video but this actually made me laugh so much my mom came into my room to tell me to shut the fuck up. This is definetly something I'm sharing with friends, because, even if they're not interested in Sonic, this is valuable content none the less. Thank you for making this vídeo, it's incredible, and i can't wait to see what else you create in the future.

If the upcoming Sonic Rangers (or Frontiers? Just pick a name Sega!) is copying anything from Breath of the Wild, it should be art direction used in the environment. BOTW has a brilliantly detailed world with a realistic depth of field that makes it seem like you're actually moving around in a real place. Rangers could take this as a base model and play around with it to give it a unique style that fits Sonic, primarily in the use of exaggeration that goes with everything from character proportions to those oversized machines Eggman is always using. After all, exaggeration is where Sonic gets his style, dating all the way back to the original character model.

Great video, couldn't agree more. I've always thought that Sonic's lack, or inconsistency of theming made him and his games feel so disconnected, that, and his setting. Unlike Mario he has no anchor, no Mushroom Kingdom, Sonic is like a traveling hobo with 20 of his closest friends in empty and lifeless renditions of real world locations instead of his own world where him and his friends aren't the only creatures like themselves among humans. Hopefully IDW's comics are something of a hint for the future of the series since they're far more connected to the games than Archie were, and they're building a pretty colorful world full of life, furry life.

Fantastic video for the KZbin algorithm to actually give me for once. You portrayed all your points expertly and the detail and editing really made me feel how much you love this subject in particular. I will say one thing though: Try to cut down on the negativity and self-depreciation kicking at yourself. It's a little thing that can sometimes lead to the "haha, don't take me too seriously" shades in attempts to cushion the possible backlash but as someone who's very much guilty of doing it myself, I implore you to cut it down to the bare minimum of a small remark at the very least. In a very odd analogy, it's like smoking. You smoke because you realised it helps you relieve some of the stress, but then soon enough you figure out that smoking has actually become a huge contributor to your stress in the first place. Self-depreciation jokes and/or comments are an easy way to make yourself feel justified for going ahead with something you're unsure on. You keep doing them and everything you say sounds a little better because the self-depreciation means you aren't committed to sounding like you're making a challenge. However over time, without really realising, these comments aimed towards yourself can break down your confidence worse that what you already thought it was. It tells the people around you that you aren't happy with what you're capable of instead of the attitude of being open to improvement no matter the previous result, because getting better is only a guarantee without a hard number. It doesn't happen overnight. Much like I'm trying to do more of, try to cut down on the negative quips you aim at yourself. Not because "no one wants to hear it" but because you deserve better for yourself and being "open" is the world of difference and very much a big part of self-care. Hope to see your content again in the future. It'll be awesome.

This video was great. And I agree the art style should be better in the games like lost world art style and froce. Sonic the 2010 the art style sucked (besides unleashed, colors, and generations art style). Because they keep on using boring renders and the expression are blane. I hopefully they go the sonic boom and crash art style of expression. And for animation and art hopefully they go the mario odyssey, generations, and unleashed art style of relsticness/cartoony at the same time. And man your art style is great it reminds me of old sonic jp art from the 90's and early 2000's I really love it and also the jokes were amazing good job! P.s. I think they should do 2D cutscenes for now sonic us just more expressive then when his 2D and it's more cheap.
