Great review, it sums up pretty much what I feel about the game more than a month now after my initial playthrough of it, though we have our differences. Even I thought that the game would get boring pretty fast with the kind of gameplay loop its presented, but I was pleasantly surprised at how much I ENJOYED traversing the open zones and running the courses scattered on the islands to get thosr memory tokens (Yes, even Chaos Island. The bait-and-switch on the treasure spots there were a big middle finger though). Not once did I feel bored or that I have to stop because it's all becoming a little same-y for my tastes, I just kept running and jumping and grinding, and not once did it feel boring. I don't even know how they managed to do this, but yeah. It was fun just running around while relaxing music plays in the background (Kronos 7th movement is my favorite) I appreciate the Fishing Minigame, it's relaxing and not as nightmarish as Big's gameplay in SA1, though I feel like it breaks the game design a bit too much for my liking, since it's SUPER easy to get purple coins You might feel that the constant referencing of past games can be very overbearing, and you'd be right..... _if this was any other franchise_ . For a game series that for the longest time remained disjointed and seemingly forgets many of Sonic's accomplishments, this is very much needed. Sure you can give the argument that this is purely fanservice and new players wouldn't get all of it, but wouldn't that be reason for potential new fans to try and discover what they were all about and check out older titles? Tails saved this place called Station Square? I wanna know all about that, what game was that from? SA1? Sweet, I wanna see that! Okay, maybe not all people would think like this, but my point is that these constant references does serve a purpose and I appreciate what it's trying to accomplish, because godDAMN that is a huge undertaking. The true final boss - The End - is very divisive. Some people like it, some hate it. Me, I feel... neutral about it I guess? I mean it did make me buy Ikaruga lol. In all seriousness, I did come to appreciate it as time went on, and The End itself is just such a really cool villain. I like my fair share of cosmic horrors and eldritch entities, and the very existence of this entity in the Sonic Universe has such big implications it sends the Lore nerd inside me into overdrive! I think we can all agree that this game could be summed up in one phrase - "A step in the right direction". Like you said, for every thing it's done right, it's done messed up in some. And I think that's okay. It NEEDS to take some falls before it can rise back up as a better version of itself in the future. In the middle of this mixed bag of a game, you can tell that all who worked on it gave it their all, you can feel their passion and see their visions for it, marred by SEGA's unreasonable decisions on its development. They worked with what they were given, and by some miracle they still managed to make it work, somehow. Credit to where it's due. I'm willing to believe that the Team won't be pulling a Lost World on their next game - this time they clearly know what they want for Sonic. As the credits song puts it, we're only at the beginning of this one-way dream! I like this review a lot, it's fair, nicely-edited, and presents the good, the bad, and the ugly without being too biased in one direction! Also sorry not sorry for this long text lol

it's like forces again, just looking at the concept art shows that the game could have been even better, but of course Sega never gives sonic team enough time and also never hire new people, why a team that works on freaking Sonic has to be so small

@@luan5226 but this time the game wasn't a complete disaster. the situation is similar but this time the game was fine but could be better instead of the game is trash but could be good. Maybe thanks to SEGA (surprisingly) giving the team a little bit more time to finish it, now of course it is SEGA it, makes mistakes, just one example isn't really enough to defend SEGA's actions, but that one thing is something I wouldn't really ignore. They just need to learn more from examples like this, that giving the team more time really helps the team to show the potentials. And if they didn't give that a bit of time for Frontiers it would truly turn out to like forces... I mean remember how terrible it looked like when the first leaks dropped.

I think sonic team has a big lack of self awareness. So many of the writing issues, artistic and design choices are either symptoms of overcorrection or lack of regard for the strengths of the series. There is a middle ground between constantly shoving references to older titles and ignoring them all around. There's a middle ground between the ugly minecraft lookin ass trees and literal assets purchased from some random 3D model store. There's a middle ground between a complicated, difficult combat system and a "choose your flashy animation" minigame. Frontiers has issues that stem both from its budget and its vision, it has a lot of potential and room for improvement that I want to see tackled properly, that could make this bold new era of the franchise truly stand on its own.

Seems they're doing a silver and blaze here, which is fine but blaze also appeared in sonic rush series to explain her and silver came back in rivals to explain him. Sticks... is in another world. I always imagined Marine to be our version of sticks. Well at least they didn't forget her. Sonic Team has a habit of adding new characters and forgetting the older ones. I best most sonic fans don't know Emerl, segasonic bros (sonic yellow and sonic red), Snivery, Antoine or even Marine.

I didn't mind the fast travel mechanic it made getting to cyberspace levels easier lol it didn't make anything feel boring I genuinely love Sonic Frontiers it's the best Sonic game in years. It doesn't get boring at all the gameplay is fun to mess around with and speed running cyberspace levels are really fun and the Titans bosses are the best Super Sonic bosses ever the music in this game is freaking epic the music on each island changes as you progress through the story on each island I don't know any game that music changes like this.

The only part of the story I absolutely hate is Amy randomly references sticks that makes no sense at all I didn't mind all the references til she mentioned sticks I didn't think any of the references felt forced well except for the line where Amy randomly mentions sticks other than that I loved the references in Sonic Frontiers unlike classic Sonic in Sonic forces that felt forced. The games and the IDW comics tries to make the games and the entire canon connect that's not forced sticks now that's being forced into an entire different canon so that's 100% forced and I never liked sticks characters she was the most annoying character in the Sonic boom universe so why they would want to make her canon is beyond me.

Now this game isn't perfect, it's got some good and it's got some bad but it's a stepping stone for the future of Sonic, if Sega is willing to go through with it. But the one thing I want to talk about, that has me pissed off more than any other flaw in this game, it's the end... insert funny boss name joke here. It threw everything it was building up for aside and gave us the most pathetic ending to a Sonic game I have ever seen. The super Sonic boss fights were incredible and exhilarating the final boss was just... no. It's said the purple moon design is supposed to reference actual Japanese culture. Where a purple moon signifies death or life. Which I guess is a nice nod to, but... that doesn't excuse the boss being pure utter ass. And not only the boss but the ending itself is bad. It just brushes off all the events we went through like nothing. Sage's death is thrown aside by Sonic saying, "Well, that was fun!" Someone just died and Sonic is having a luagh. It doesn't even sound like a painful one, the setting doesn't give off that feel either. I mean sure Sage is latter revealed to be alive but Sonic doesn't know that! Without ranting on, I'd give this game an 8/10, my overall enjoyment was consistent, somewhat.

If you just do a single punch in between the stomp move you can get through the titan fights at sonic speed :,( its how i beat every boss it was sort of way too effective and super underwhelming. The stomp move even reduced the number of attack animations the titans could pull out since it seems the stomp moves camera change freezes the environment for a moment . And it do big big damage real real quick!
