Well, it's usually a social thing I think. Unless picking avatars, I don't really see many people Infront of a mirror solo for a long time. Especially when it comes to more than 2 people, it's easier to communicate and see everyone when in front of a mirror - because the peripheral vision through a headset is less than looking IRL, and people can feel a bit too close when looking at them directly, and as far as I know mic is based on proximity by default? So it makes it easier to hear people while not having their forehead taking up your whole vision. That's just a theory, I don't actually know because I rarely talk to other people.
