I think it's a shame Harry Sullivan stopped being a companion after Terror of the Zygons. The 4th Doctor, Sarah Jane and Harry were brilliant together.

I'm not surprised Tom Baker hurt himself filming on Dartmoor, the whole area is strewn with boulders left over from the Ice Age, many half buried.

Famously, Tom Baker fell and broke his collarbone whilst filming on Dartmoor. Stuntman Terry Walsh doubled for Tom during the fight scenes. Tom Baker had his arm in a sling, which was disguised by his scarf in subsequent scenes. Sadly, this was the last time Kevin Lindsay played a Sontaran - he died of a heart condition in April, 1975, a few months after the broadcast of this story.

Great dialogue in that story. DOCTOR: Good. Well, now he's gone, any chance of a cup of tea? TANE: What! DOCTOR: Or coffee. My friend and I have had a very trying experience. Haven't we had a trying experience, Harry? HARRY: Very trying, Doctor. TANE: Step into the security scan. DOCTOR: What, no tea? TANE: Let me point out to you that you have no rights whatsoever. I have full authority to torture and kill any prisoner who does not comply absolutely with my orders. That is your first and last warning. DOCTOR: No tea, Harry.

This episode always drives nostalgia to me, as after re watching it I can recall when I would sit down and watch doctor who with my dad who started watching doctor who around when Tom baker started. This episode imp articular seems to be the one I remember the most as I had re watched it countless times. Such a great story, yes the effects weren't as good as they are now but when watching this as a child it was the best thing I had ever seen.

Such a lovely memory for you. I can relate to it, I remember my dad watching it when Tom was the Doctor. Thinking about it, it was the later stories of his, somewhere around 1978/79. I was quite young, 6 or 7ish. But happy memories indeed 😊

I love mid-70s Who (it's one of the high points of the whole show), but The Sontaran Experiment has aged better than a lot of the other serials from that era. It's doesn't suffer from unnecessary padding, the special effects aren't overdone, and it's grittier than most stories up to that point.

Ian Marter did the novelization and added some original material to flesh out the story.

As a child growing up in the mid 60s and throughout the 70s I used to rush home on a Saturday evening to watch Dr Who and Tom Baker was my favourite actor playing him Jon Pertwee wasn't bad whatever I was doing or wherever I was it all came to an abrupt halt no matter what it was like some kind of ritual I had to get home in time to see it even now as an adult and a father and grandfather myself I still retain a great deal of fondness of those brilliant days and memories and often rewind and take trips down memory lane and reminisce whilst watching some of the episodes and all the memories come flooding back to me how absolutely bloody wonderful I sometimes wish I could borrow the doctors tardis and go back in time and watch all the original episodes over again 😊😃🏴

The episode title had two meanings. The other was that the BBC experimented with using 2” video tapes for a location shoot instead of 16mm film, as was common with British television at the time. Alas, the technology to do so economically wouldn’t be achieved until 1986.

im not sure if this is the ep that turner directed but there is one bit where there is an alien that travels like the flash and it looks like footage from 25 years in the future almost CG, i think turner was the classic genius that could have saved the series but rubbed people the wrong way, another weird thing is the oldest person in this episode is the only person still alive
