About the only video so far addressing the video capabilities of the A9III. I already own two A1 bodies, so good to go for stills. Really looking forward to seeing what the global shutter provides in terms of very smooth video footage...put on a cine lens...add a black pro mist 1/4...should be pretty cool. A little concerned about that ISO tho. Thanks for posting...

I bought a ZV-E1 while back and was planning to use it alongside my a7RV but then I returned it to just sell the A7RV and get the a9iii, i'm still a little torn on whether I want to do this but it is nice to just have a single camera that can do it all

Global Shutter is THE thing for VFX work. You track accurately in 3D, match moving, and many other things. Things that were possible only on film back in the day (or for Nolan 😀today)! If the FX6 ii / FX3 ii will have this, it will be a beast redefining CINEMA!!!!

It's in a pretty competitive price range, so there are a lot of good cameras to choose from. With autofocus pretty much perfected and now the global shutter, let's hope Sony works on a competitive electronic nd filter to bring all of these compact cameras up to the level of their bigger brothers

Replace the word "cinema" with "video" and most of what you've said is spot on and most of your shots look great. Can definitely see the global shutter at play in some shots. Were you shooting at a base frequency of 50p or 60p? Definitely looks like it in places.

The camera though cleans out at 6,400 ISO in SLog3 and seems to be pretty close to a real second base ISO with pretty good dynamic range. Check out Gerald Undone's review. Also that global shutter 120fps video is so good. My a7SIII 120fps, even at 7.7ms, isn't fast enough and could see some jello effect on rare occasions. My A7SIII will always be there for crazy high ISO scenes anyway, but this should be a daily driver.

Yeah it’s a little cleaner at 6400 but not a true dual native iso. Overall there seems to be less processing in higher isos and the colors look good even when you push it.

@@JevenDovey Yeah according to Gerald it seems to have less to no internal noise reduction (probably comparable to FX6), and when you apply noise reduction on DaVinci Resolve for example the image looks as clean with similar DR to noise floor ratio that you get from other Sony cameras at around 12.3-12.6 and ~15 overall. It's a mindblowing achievement and things will get even better with future entries.

I currently have an A7M4. It’s a great hybrid camera. Although I like to do panning shots and other fast camera movements and the rolling shutter is terrible. It has also gotten very warm after recording long events and I’m concerned it’s not a reliable option for these situations. So I’m looking for a second camera that is more video centric. The RED Komodo would be perfect except it’s not compatible with the E-Mount lenses and I’m too committed to the Sony ecosystem at this point. The A9iii global shutter would certainly fix the rolling shutter issues I have been experiencing with my gear. Although, your Alaska trip probably isn’t the best test of how it handles heat dissipation… and I’m def concerned about the lack of dynamic range and ISO for shooting events. Im keeping my fingers crossed that the FX3ii announcement is around the corner and the perfect solution to these problems. But maybe I’m just dreaming! 🤞😅

Lab testing shows that it’s not as good as other Sony cameras but in real world testing I didn’t notice a difference. The DR is still great

The motion is super smooth that I like a lot, not sure about the image though. Maybe because it’s so early on with this camera but I’ve seen much better footage out of an FX3 before. Either way this is a cool test and some nice shots for sure! Hopefully we see more!

Oh, so naive! 😂 It's a good photo camera and a decent video camera. What I really need in the A7S IV is an ND filter, 4k 240 fps, batter colours....but definitely not a global shutter.

No matter how many times you repeat the A9III is a cinema camera, I claim there are better options. It does not have NDD for example. No SDD recording. Small LCD screen. I would have to invest a lot to make the camera useful.

This isn’t a low light camera. Its base iso is 2000 which will work for most situations but if you want to do super low light then fx3, zve1, fx6 or a7siii is the better option.

$6k for the A9III “cinema camera” or $3300 for a used C70. Pay half and own a camera or $5k new. A budget cinema camera that shoots DGO with 17 stops dynamic range, 12 bit internal raw, timecode, 180 shutter angle, 10 stops internal ND, xlr on the body not the handle, duel pixel cmos, not a tiny mirrorless camera that needs to be rigged out to have any weight for handheld natural looking camera shake and not the stabilized look and best of all, Canon color science. 😎🤓
