Betamax was pronounced "beata max"

I have felt a special connection with Sony. As a teenager, I worked in repair for a Sony dealer fixing their TVs and audio. My boss sent me to betamax school. I remember the dumb joke the instructor said. After this class, you will be a bunch of master-betas. I had a CD-5 portable CD player and one of those tiny portable TVs. Overall, I like their products.

Nice, are you referring to the Sony Mega Watchman?

@@SonyEnthusiast No, it was a small B&W TV with a steel case like the one shown in this video. A full on CRT set with a telescoping rod antenna lol.

would like to know how you view Panasonic products as Son'y's main arch-rival..

@Advancedkid I liked Panasonic products. Back in the day, I never thought about any of the products from either to be top end except Sony's Trinitron TVs, but they were generally good equipment.

@@kenmore01I sure agree, the reason is that both brands were mainly targeting the general consumers even when they also had their own pro-/ high end line of products, whereas other brands mainly targeted the pro consumers, eg. Luxman, Nakamichi,Studer-Revox, Yamaha, etc.. However, when it came to TV's it was only Panasonic and Sony neck to neck, so was also the VCR format war which VHS won on behalf of the JVC/Matsushita (Panasonic) group. The original Philips VCR as well as the Video2000 formats were already out of the race..but that's ofcourse out of topic.

10:38 is hillarious, showing the first Sony walkman with a mid 80's Maxell cassette. Maxell, belonging to Hitachi is in no way affiliated with Sony, or vice versa. Would have been more appropriate to show the Walkman with a Sony inhouse cassette tape of the era, a Sony CHF.

I know a former “Technics” employee. From what he initially told me, the Japanese parent company “Matsushita” owns both Panasonic/National and Technics. Panasonic/National more towards video/multimedia and Technics towards hi-fi/audio. Since 2007 the name Matsuhita has been abandoned to rename everything Panasonic. The Technics Brand was also on the Verge of Disappearing from the Market. After times changed away from HiFi Component Systems, Technics became very Quiet. In the end they just kept Technics alive as a more Boutique Manufacturer because they have a very good Reputation as a Turntable Manufacturer. Technics had already stopped Production for several Years. But Panasonic kept the brand alive. After a major call out and complaint from the DJ Scene to bring back they're Turntables , they resumed Production. Technics is currently only living off the new Vinyl Hype. Everyone is afraid of the timely end of that Hype, which will once again seal the end of Technics as a Hi-Fi Brand. Technics has been trying to get back on its feet since then, but almost every Product is in the high four figures and so there isn't much hope after all to become a Big Player again.

they're like Republicans and Democrats. Panasonic is more pro-consumer, Sony more pro-business and innovation. Remember the VHS and Betamax formal war.
