Well said. @@AlphonseWeebay This is why I don't have as much sympathy for Adriana as everybody else seems to. She was complicit in enabling Chris-ta-fuh's behaviour and although she tried to get them away from the life, she didn't complain as soon as shoes or jewellery were dangled in front of her, because it's so romantic to be given stolen goods...(just ask Carmela! 😂) Did she deserve better? Yes. But she had a taste for bad guys and got herself into her own mess.

This duo was very watchable, and their relationship seemed authentic. They were not the most inquisitive souls and were happy not to see the writing on the wall until it was too late. In retrospect, Chris should have envied the family in the gas station. That family probably had an arch, these two just crashed. Adriana is tragic. Chris was asking for it.

"Owwww-UH!" Maybe my favorite line of hers. God, poor Ade. She was so devoted to Chrissy. She really loved him and wanted what was best for him and encouraged him. What a great girlfriend. The polar antithesis of Livia. She would have been the most devoted and loving mother. sigh So sad.
@tylerlong5112

Chris and Ade really did love each other but the life that Chris was in made it so that he could never be the man she needed. The mafia is an insidious group of petty people with petty power who hate “weakness”. When Chris was forced to get sober what did he get mocked and lost respect. But Chris kept going because regular life scares him to much despite Ade wanting to get away. Eventually Chris made his choice that cost him his life. They never could truly be happy because of the life like Paulie said “marriage and our thing don’t jive.”

I don't think Adriana is naive. Rather the tragedy of her life is similar to that of D'Angelo Barksdale from The Wire. She is born into a world that she is fundamentally not built for because at her heart she isn't a bad selfish person like the mobsters are. A core point of the show is that the "code" is all just BS and it's everyone for themselves at the end of the day, but Adriana never really got that, or could never embrace it, hence not leaving Chris even though he gave her ample reasons to. Her weakness was her loyalty to Chris because she really did love him, and that ultimately proved her undoing.
@SopranosBlueprint

Her love for Christopher was her undoing, but I think her naivety did contribute to some unrealistic expectations about what her life with Christopher was going to look like.

Ade and Chris shared a toxic bond in many ways, they had a co-dependency on each other. With each being the only one they feel they can be vulnerable around, confide in and share a lot of needs and wants. Neither feeling they can do regular life, nor wanting to be confined to where they are at the start. Wanting to not be Tony/Carmela as a whole. And boy does the Sopranos take that desire of theirs, shit on it and basically chew them out the other end, that makes them among the most tragic characters of the series. Even with how abusive, jerk like, drug addict and other flaws Chrissy has, Michael still manages to make Chrissy pitiful on a level that is one of the best done in fiction, because his depression, struggles and abuse he gets is truly sad to see at times. While Ade had that sweet core that made her stood out, and boy the pedestal she put Chrissy on never ceases to move me, same with what she goes through despite her own selfish desires, lack of morals and more.
@SopranosBlueprint
@SopranosBlueprint 2 ай бұрын
Yes, it’s interesting because although Tony was obviously BS-ing to Carmela right after she learned about the “break up,” Tony says, “This kid. That’s his trouble. He keeps it all bottled up.” He just doesn’t go into the rest of the details about how Adriana was keeping something all bottled up, too…

_Forget about that betting parlor...I was making cheese dawgs for you_ Their first scene in Fortunate Son is the beginning of the end. They are sitting on the couch when the call comes, and their final big scene in Long Term Parking is together on that (same?) couch. The first thing he says to her after he's received the call is "you're giving your notice today", and as you said, it's from that point that she sheds her non-mob job and ends up becoming more entwined with mob-stuff. Her first thought is to say "so can we now move to a bigger place", but sad to see that they never leave that poky little apartment. Ashes to ashes, couch to couch.

Do people attract the perfect match for their sickness waltz? I know, sadly, men who hit their women. I reported one to victim services, who did little. I don't understand the kind of mate that stays hooked up with violent men. Tony wants them to have a happy mob marriage. Is this what a happy mob marriage is? The Sacks had a happy marriage. But very few in the series are capable. I cried when Silvio shot her.

“You want to raise your hands to her, you give her your last name. Until then, you keep your hands in pockets.” Richie’s quote (not that he followed his own rule!) seems to do a good job of summing up what they see marriage as - marriage more so for procreation and appearances as opposed to necessarily happily ever after or monogamous (like Carmela pointed out to Janice, too).

There are plenty of studies done on how hard it is to leave an abusive relationship, the dependency, the accompaning mental and emotional abuse, and how it takes many tries before it takes. Adriana was a victim of circumstances to a degree. She was Beautiful, and in that world it meant being desired by Mafia guys, unfortunately, she didn't have the insight to choose a better guy. Christopher had an artistic streak, but he couldn't overcome his upbringing and continued to make poor choices. I think that his awareness that he could've been a better Man, fueled his drug use. Adriana saw the potential in Chris, but neither of them were willing to put in the work to be everyday people. They couldn't let go of the lifestyle and the lifestyle killed both of them.

@SopranosBlueprint most definitely. When I watched sopranos on my first fresh watch, I had all the wrong ideas. All the ideas David Chase incorporated, but I'm sure didn't intend for me to absorb them and interpret them the way I did. You help me get back on track with the true intended interpretation and it really does improve my outlook/mood/perspective on the show and a lot of other things. Thanks for all your hard work and keep the train full steam ahead!!!

I always felt that Chris and Ade were somewhat similar to Tony and Carmela. They seemed to be like the young versions of them, with differences of course, and if everything worked out, and they both lived, I imagine they would have become just like Tony and Carmela.

Great video! I was never a fan of Christopher. I found his character to be very obnoxious. I always loved it when Paulie would get into fights. Especially the one where Paulie trashed his yard 😂. Poor Adriana. She was really naive in a lot of ways. I wish she'd have been able to get away from him.

@@LaBrew Thank you so much! Thrilled you enjoyed the video! Those Paulie-Christopher arguments sure were entertaining! I loved when he showed up at their place at 2am (minus Paulie going through her underwear drawer) while Christopher was being an ass and yelling at her right before it happened.

Very good point. Or in Liz’s case, maybe she figured if she just didn’t talk about it, Adriana wouldn’t be drawn to someone involved in it, but obviously she was, but maybe Liz felt like “educating” her would be condoning it? Still would’ve been better for Adriana in the long run, though.

She should have left after he slapped her like that in the restaurant. And definitely not take him back after he man-handled her mother into their house. And let's face it, he was ready to leave Adriana for the Hollywood agency lady, but she rejected him and he didn't like the idea of being used just for sex like he uses women.

Paulie Walnuts was right. Marriage and the mob life don't mix well. Real life gangster Sammy "the Bull" Garvano said the same thing once. I think former Colombo Crime Family capo Michael Franzese said the same thing. The gangster life ruins families. If you're going to be a gangster, better do it alone. Like Paulie Walnuts did.

TV shows and films (and anything, really) don’t expire in significance once they become [X] years old. If anything, they only become more important as reflections of points in time and our society. It’s not mandatory that everyone else participate or share the enthusiasm, but that doesn’t mean others can’t or shouldn’t enjoy it.
