You will see the filming locations used in the wilderness scenes from the Pine Barrens episode. The very areas where Chris and Paulie took the Russian into the woods. Starting with the road they parked on, to get him out of the trunk. They get lost while chasing and searching for Valery in the snow. In the episode it appears they cover great territory, when in fact most clips are well within 100 yards of each other.
You will see almost every exact spot where the production team shot these scenes, including the abandoned plumbing van/truck. My favorite part of this project might have been finding the exact location where Tony and Bobby found them. Pretty amazing how most of the trees are still standing. It's basically a game to me where I can simultaneously hone my crafts. I have a good time finding these unknown locations, I will continue to do so!
Steve Buscemi who would later go on to become a cast member of the show, directed this episode. He directed four episodes of the series. Shooting lasted for two weeks during the winter. The snow fall was an unexpected development which almost derailed everything. Then they realized the storm would add more than layers of snow to the episode. I'm pretty sure writer Terrance Winter had a dream or a vision about the two getting lost in the woods. Timothy Van Patten and David Chase filled in the blanks.

I thought I was the only person that loves to play the match game! I find locations on google earth and use the street view to see how much the locations have changed! Very nice my friend. There’s an episode from the second season where Bobbie meets Tony in a parking lot and gives him an envelope, in the background you see a Sunoco gas station and a motel; “The Lincoln Motel” I found it yesterday. It’s 430 Broad St. Newark NJ. the hotel is no longer there but the gas station is but under a different company 😎

Exactly. The Pine Barrens are flat, the soil is sandy, and they are full of scrubby pine and cedar trees. There aren’t the tree leaves you see all over the ground in this episode.

@@josecuervo1747 I lived in Wildwood new Jersey from 2006-2008 and I went to the pine barrens often enough. When i finally saw this episode in 2009 I kept wondering why it looked so different. I just assumed they went to a part of the pine barrens I never did, because yes, they're the saddest woods ever.

This was the best video of its type I've ever seen on KZbin. All you had were a bunch of trees but you found the exact spots the boys stood in all those years ago. I always wondered why Chris and Paulie never used the obvious lake behind them to orient themselves, maybe it was a subtle nod at how dumb they really were.

It should go without saying, but nevertheless I find it interesting how the different lenses completely change the depth of field of the show. Christophuh and Paulie look so much further away than in reality. I'm sure you must have enjoyed standing in the exact places of filming. I got tingles just thinking about it haha! How far did filming the various scenes take place from the parking lot you mentioned at the beginning? I was also sure that they'd shoot scenes from different angles!

not fer nuthin , but how stupid is the audience that never, not once , have i heard ONE person say "but there aren't any pine trees ; it's not the Pine Barrens " etc . These are mostly deciduous woods , lots of oaks. Nary a pine in sight. For people who know , this place (though very beautiful) looks NOTHING like the actual pine barrens.
