It’s not that Livia didn’t try to stop it, she was the MAIN REASON it happened. She influenced Junior to do it.
@bucky71622 жыл бұрын
Just a heads up, Junior was mad about the nursing home because yes the captains just moved there mothers in there so they could meet in secret from the feds but they were also meeting in secret from Junior and taking orders from Tony who was actually in control of the family and only gave Junior the "Illusion of power" Which he learned in therapy.
@marcuscato90832 жыл бұрын
Great point. He's paranoid but he isn't wrong either.
@supastar252 жыл бұрын
Exactly...Junior had good reason to be angry and disappointed at that...they were going behind his back yet he was the boss...that's not right
@CopiousDoinksLLC Жыл бұрын
@@supastar25 It's a bit of a grey area because officially, Junior was the boss but Tony lied when he said the captains would follow Junior's leadership. That's the key problem and Tony knew it: it doesn't just take fear and intimidation to be in charge, you have to actually have the confidence of your men. So in reality, both men have a pretty good argument as to why they should be boss; Junior has experience and wisdom on his side but Tony is the one that everyone will follow into battle.

Tony knew from the beginning it wasn’t just a car-jacking, but he needed to uphold that theory in front of his wife and family. I’m also fairly sure he had a hunch it was Junior right away, but yes he knew for sure by the end of the episode, of course he wouldn’t say anything to Melfi though. Loving the reactions so far! Things develop a lot from here. The characters are complex and there are going to be many inner workings and rules to the mafia you’ll come to learn which may not make sense right away. Thanks for the reactions :)

You guys making your way through this series almost feels like watching it for the first time again myself, so thank you for that. Great batch of episodes. The car scene with Melfi in episode 12 captures Gandolfini's brilliance as an actor, being able to make you feel for a guy like this.

The first Sopranos episode I ever seen from beginning to end was Season 3, Episode 2, on A&E of all places (so it was heavily edited). Such a random, yet pivotal episode. But it drew me in. Hey, you may take a look at The Wire. Also from HBO - widely considered the best TV show ever made. It's a slow burn, especially for the first few episodes, but I can't think of another show in which I was so invested. It might seem like a slow "cops vs drug dealers" type of show, but it's basically a story about how a big city works - from a drug dealer on the corner, to the police, school system and blue collar workers finally to media and politics. You guys should definitely check it out.
@joemilo27102 жыл бұрын
The Sopranos is the best and most realistic dialog written and acted series ever. The Wire can't even compare to it, it has highly unrealistic script and has typical series happenings and characters, almost nothing extraordinary.
@flarrfan2 жыл бұрын
@@joemilo2710 Yeah, I tried Wire a few times but just couldn't get into it like I did Sopranos. Two other HBO series I loved that got canceled long before their intended climax were Carnivale and Deadwood. If it weren't for the last episode where they had to wrap everything up too soon, I'd suggest a reaction to Carnivale, IMO the first season was an overlooked masterpiece.
@joemilo27102 жыл бұрын
@@flarrfan Yeah, Wire is a good series, but nothing too special and to me it has a lot of unrealistic character dialog, as if drug dealers and especially street drug dealers have that profound and smart way of talking and thinking always. Thanks, maybe I'll check out Carnivale.

The late, great Nancy Marchand may sit at the top of that unfortunate list. For three years we hated on her like you wouldn't believe. I wasn't even allowed to watch "Keeping Up Appearances" because my late husband couldn't stand Hyacinth Bucket. Couldn't separate the actress from the character. That's genius. Livia Soprano always knew *exactly* what she was saying and who she was saying it to. Always. RIP Marchand. RIP Gandolfini. May they be waltzing in The Hereafter.

To Samantha, the close crew member of Tony's that I believe you're thinking is named Jimmy (not the Jimmy that was in Tony's basement) is Silvio Dante. Silvio is the one with the pompadour-like hairstyle who owns the strip club and smokes cigarettes all the time. He always seems to wear a frown on his face, which is hilarious to me.
