The Soul Rebels with Gov't Mule "Eminence Front"

Almost one year ago, The Soul Rebels teamed up with Gov't Mule for a special show in New Orleans' Saenger Theatre. Here's their version of The Who's "Eminence Front."
Soul Rebels drummer and founder Lumar LeBlanc tells Relix, "You'd be surprised to know that Soul Rebels is heavily influenced by bands like The Who, The Doors, The Beatles, Zeppelin and many of the great rock bands of the 60's and 70's. This was the first time we've performed this tune and we love The Who. And Govt Mule really brought that epic rocking context and feel. Warren's voice is so raw. The repeating line you hear in Eminence Front lends well to the horns. At the end of the day, genre or song type doesn't hold a candle to the importance of the soul breathed into the song. And Warren and the Mule guys bring so much soul and might to everything they play. We love playing rock music and have rocked out with lots of hard artists including Marilyn Manson and Metallica."

just saw them in Chi last Saturday night....Mule opened up for ZZ Top...shold have been the other way around. Warren is so fucking talented, the band is outstanding!!!

Yes sir I saw them 9/11/2016 at the sands they opened as well . they played 72 minutes . and as loud as I have ever heard them .. 10 times now I may add... they Billy and Dusty came out it sounded like they were using fender practice amps .... I was not a fan of the sharped dressed man stuff . I saw them in Allentown in 1974 and that was the stuff there .. those first 6 albums were the top of the heap for me Beer Drinkers and Hell Raisers

So the The Who’s original is probably the coolest intro to a song ever. This topped it. Happy to say my hometown is the most musical spot on planet earth. I walk three blocks home from work to my apartment on Dumaine every day and pass at least two or three bands. No place like it.

For those of us who have seen more than a couple Mule shows, it is always the conversation before the show. What will they cover? Gov't Mule is the absolute cover band. They cover your songs out of respect and admiration. Warren owns your song or it is not played. Creep, One, sorry guys you don't own these songs anymore. Warren does. Red Rocks in about a month. Last years dark Side of the Mule was one of the best of my 500+ shows ever. See ya'll there.

Oddly, the horns add zero. Should look at Chicago, Blood, Sweat, Tears and Tedeshi Trucks for how you do a horn line. Or Liquid Soul ("Spam Sucker")

Haines can't compared to Pete Townsend. Like a 100w bulb compared to a football stadium light. That being said, I do like his playing. He's just stepped out of his league attempting to cover a Who's tune. Should have left this one alone. I do like many of his other covers though.....and I respect his abilities

Warren Haynes is a much more accomplished lead player than Pete Townsend ever has been or ever will be.Townsend himself admitted that he couldn't solo like Clapton,Beck or Hendrix therefore he didn't even try.Instead he concentrated on playing big full power chords,writing and playing rhythm which he felt was his strong points.I tend to agree.That being said there was some good things going on occasionally in this cover version but you could tell that it was thrown together,unrehearsed and they were all flying by the seat of their pants.Warren kept shouting out when to do certain things in the song and assuming the song was in A minor,it only has 2 chord changes for most of the song. A minor to F over & over again except when it goes to E which Warren had to cue everyone when it did. Then there was that little flurry of chord changes that happened twice in the song and the bass player fucked it up both time.He caught himself very quickly but that is totally unlike the Mule to be that unfamiliar with a song even if they are a jam band...
