Sorry late to the party. Had a few people email me pointing to this video....which in my opinion solidifies my statements during my live stream. Phil had to move to 50 tones to tell a difference. There was no difference before. He is relying on ID tone breakpoints to change the tone - which I did say in my live stream would work and give a different pitch based on the tone matching a specific ID. You can for sure silver sniff...just not with the same tone covering clad and silver both. He needed 50 tones to tell the difference. If the same tone encompasses both the clad and silver range....say a tone pitch of 25....there will be zero way to tell the difference based on audio "nuances" or whatever we want to call them. There simply is no "sound of silver" when running single tone mode....which was how I interpreted your question in my live stream (for whatever reason). You have to create it manually. In my opinion...even the older analog machines could not tell clad from silver without a breakpoint or disc adjustment of some sort. If I go bury 10 clad dimes....1 silver dime....cover the ID....and run the tone the same....no self titled "pro" would be able to tell which one is silver. Analog or digital. Make a video if you can...I'll be happy to eat crow.

As a musician, here's how I really learned to hear tones. I sat in a dark room and played the same note continuously for more than an hour. Any kind of thing like that, your brain rebels strongly after a very short time and it wants you to think about something else, anything else and you feel like you want to run screaming from the room. If you keep going though, tell your brain to shut up, you're trying to listen to this sound, eventually it gives up and stops babbling at you. THAT'S when you start to hear amazing things. What you heard before as a simple sound takes on amazing depth and you can pick out the individual components of that single note. I'll warn you, the first half hour is pure torture. On the good side, once your brain shuts up, it's pure delight.

Hi there Merrill as a professional musician I've been trained to listen for the slightest tone differential, but recently my hearing is getting worse, so here's my tip shut the distractions of and close your eyes after a while you'll train your ears to really listen, practice in the house: say listen to the kettle boiling with your eyes closed, listen to traffic with your eyes closed (not whilst driving) give it go and I can assure you you'll start to hear subtle changes. All the best from GG and WEE JOCK THE HAGGIS.

Merrill, I can't tell the sound difference between clad and silver. I'm like you, I keep trying, and hopefully, maybe some day, I too will master the NOX. Mine is the 800, and like you, I bought the E-Trac cause it suppose to go deeper? I watch you every day.

Nice job boys!! I can hear the difference for sure. I upgraded from a 600 to an 800 this passed summer, I don’t know if it was where I was hunting ( colonial farms) but I couldn’t find hardly any silver with the 800 but I was digging a lot of coppers. However, I did dig my first Reales with the 800, 3 half’s and a 1 in 2 months. Great video!!!!!

Merrill ditch the auto track and the comment about distinguishing bottle caps by pulling the coil to the rear of the target then getting a grunt...works. Also, ground balance at 0.

The best tip I learned for bottle tops is when you have a target you think might be a bottle top draw you coil back towards you and as the target gets to the edge of the coil you will get a definite iron grunt. I have stopped digging 95% of bottle tops since doing this

Which sand scoop are you using? Wanting to get a good one. Love your hunts. Informative and helpful. Phil is a guru on the Equinox! You are lucky to be able to tap his knowledge. I got my 800 late last winter and love it. And I’m learning more every time I go out. Right now I’m swinging in a farm field that has been turned over for literally hundreds of years. It’s right next to a river and you can dig feet into the soil. I haven’t learned the secret to this field yet but the 15” coil will be pulled out and tweaked to see if I can get to the good older targets that I’m sure are there. This place has a colonial background dating back into the mid 1700s so I’m looking forward to introducing the 15” coil to this place. Thank you so much for your help! You’re never too old to learn. I’ve been detecting over 40 years!

Dude, u dont EVER have the sensitivity below 23; thats when the major depth is lost 2-3inches compared to 23-25, below that threshold of 23 is when u see major depth lost... I use BEACH 1 (it’s 2inches deeper than beach 2), sensitivity 25, recovery speed 2 (Nox 600), multi tones is 2-3inches lost compared to 1 tone, but on max Sensitivity, its not that much difference in inches, but if its a scratchy signal in multi tones (50 tones im getting used to now), then switch it to 1 Tone mode to hear it better and deeper....noise cancel wont make ya loose depth in my testing...auto ground balance will!(dont ever pump it, set it to 0 & turn off the⚡️freq. icon, for this auto crap will cause about 1inch in depth LOST). IT ALL ADDS UP, everything I’m saying...if u want the cheat sheet, holller..& The 15inch coil borrower, lol... ‘...yea i dunno if id use the 15” coil on the beach, probably the 11” coil...’ What a noobsauce...That broke hoe just wants to keep your 15inch coil, don’t listen to him 🐲, 15inch coil, middle recovery speed (makes 2 inches depth increased), sensitivity 25 (u can tell the difference between a real target & particle ambient metal/emi, put on 17-18 lvolume headphones bcuz of the emi chatter, the emi chattery is FINE, the iron sand or small metal in the sand IS CHATTER here and there & U CAN TELL ITS NOT A TARGET... this is how u GO DEEP. Doing all this i tested a 4gram 14k white gold diamond ring at 20inches. Most people cant handle 2-3 recovery speed on the NOX800 bc of tthe wompy noises from being so sensitive and merging metal particles (my theory anyways). So Recovery SPEED 2 on the EQUINOX 800 is the Same as Recovery Speed 1 on the Equinox 600. Dude read the Equinox chart online...it tells u nox600 recovery speed 1 is nox800’s 2 Nox600 recovery speed 2 is Nox800’s 4 Nox600 recovery speed 3 is Nox800’s 6 Beach 1 mode is deepest, uses higher transit power than beach 2, & focuses emphasis on lower frequencies more while using the multi freq. technology still. U got that gold prob bcuz u had beach 1 on instead of beach 2 for a change. DEAL WITH THE CHATTER & FIGURE OUT THE DIFFERENCE IF U WANT TO BE A GOOD DETECTORIST LIKE PHIL. Phil has good settings, but 1 recovery speed on ur nox600 is the same as his Nox800 rec speed of 2...read the online pdf manual. Just google it. But there isnt much depth gained from nox600 2 recovery speed & 1, maybe 0.5-1” in my testing, but recovery speed 1 is too wompy usually and hard to tell, but u Can tell the difference, just would have to go so slow and get used to it...its not worth the 1inch gained to deal with it in my experience...middle recovery speed (nox 600’s 2 recovery speed=Nox800 recovery speed 4) is 2-3inches deeper than Nox600 rec. speed of 3 or the nox800 rec. speed of 6.... if anyone is still confused, ur dumb & I cant help ya lol. U should understand how to be a beast🐄now
