Ok, using kinetic energy and converting to potential energy like charging a battery I can believe, it can make sense. But How did that blast only kill the Grimm? Pure Kinetic energy is NOT specific. Yang, Emerald, Jaune, Ren, and Oscar would still be taking a literal nuke to the face as much as the whale did, but they were perfectly unharmed.

When Oscar said the cane stores kinetic energy, the first thing that came to mind was his previous lives constantly just smacking things and waving it about when nobody's looking to build up the power. Assuming total efficiency, a single training session hitting something with the cane over and over could store enough kinetic energy for a single decisive blow in a fight against pretty much anyone.

Fun tip I do believe Oscar falling from Atlas gave him a large amount of Kinetuc Energy as the force of gravity caused acceleration on his body and the cane creates Kinetic Energy. The fact that this cane holds a near limitless amount of PKE is ridiculous to think about

How the cane was made (probably): 1.) Ask Jinn how to make a handheld weapon that stores infinite energy. 2.) I feel like calling it pure 'kinetic energy' is a little innaccurate on Ozpin/Oscar's part. The blast ONLY killed Grimm, and did not damage any city structures or people surrounding the whale (like Winter and the Ace Ops). If it WERE just kinetic energy, EVERYTHING would be messed up. So I feel like theres a little more 'selective magic' to it than what he told us.

Keep in mind that that's only on screen kinetic energy and also that the amount for every action is probably different, the way people hit each other in this world is almost like if everyone has super soldier serum injected so the kinetic energy built up with each strike would be a lot, he could also purposefully charge it up by just hitting stuff really hard. We don't know how much energy he built up so I think that blast, which was still a lot smaller than a nuke, is not all of it. A nuke would've wiped out Atlas and Mantle, here it only hit in a radius of about 1km or 2km to be generous.

Remember that it also stores energy whenever the person holding it is moving as well, not just when the cane hits something/is twirled. So Qrow in V4 was storing energy, and another example is when Oscar is falling in V7.

Here's the other thing about that concept of storing genetic energy; That's literally ANY movement, so every single motion that the cane every does would be counted. Plus we don't know if the energy gained is equivalent to the energy used to move the cane. If so then some actions would increase that by more. Plus if we're going by the cane stores the energy used to move it then it's slightly more complicated than just every step and I know enough about physics to know I have barely any clue on that. If we have a fought idea on its weight, then we just have to determine how much force is required to do certain things like using it as a cane, spinning it, swinging it and or thrusting it. Then the passive stuff like falling with it and having it move while onboard the train could also count since that is still kinetic energy. Suffice to say, there is ALOT more energy than a nuke in that thing.

There's one more element to the build-up and storage of kinetic energy within the cane. The clockwork system the cane seems to have been built around, just like the clockwork system that Beacon tower contained. Each tick of the clock, each click of the gears, was building up that energy as well. For the record, I'm not disregarding the movement and use methods of storing energy either, because it would certainly make sense that he'd be storing energy in the cane with each movement as well.

Don't forget, the kinetic energy in hitting someone in combat is sufficiently higher then just taping on the floor while walking or when picking it up. The battle with Cinder alone was probably equal to all the actual on screen steps we see. So think about how often he has fraught over the mellinia or spared with students. And the spinning in the scene in Mistrial would be massive bump as well. The figures here would likely be the minimum potential.

Kenetic energy is also anytime it is moved at all. So even him just doing the movement before the “step” to the ground is charging it. And if the kenetic energy theory exist in this universe, technically that should also charge it by just simply existing. I would think when he stored it before he passed, he’d have a way for it to generate power, like a vibration or a way to make it hit something to charge it. Idk, his cane has become my favorite weapon simply because of the potential.

The amount of energy stored with each action can be deceptive. To keep things simple(if extreme) every time he takes a step he could be striking the ground with 10,000lbs of force but absorbing enough kinetic energy so that it looks like 10lbs of force to an outside observer.

I know no one will probably see this comment but if people are wondering why us didn't use his Cane during the fall of beacon during his fight during with cinder if he had used the cane it would have blown everything away and made the ground unstable for the huntsman and the students up top fighting and on top of it if he had killed cinder the maiden power would have ended up going to Salem which I think is her in Gold if cinder gets all the maiden power or the power would have went to emerald if that had been the last person in cinder's thoughts in Salem would have just made emerald go and cinders place to collect the maiden powers and if emerald had been the one going to collect the maiden power she would have been a multi-maiden by now she could just usually illusions trick him and kill him real quick and it'd be over So I know a lot of people are called BS on the cane using energy and whatever but this does make sense Plus in the volume eight commentary they also said that the cane had magic stored in it so Oscar used magic when he used that technique so even if he does do this technique again and absorb more kinetic energy I think that'll be the last time we see them use it because it'll probably merge Oscar and ozpin if they probably use magic again especially on that level

Now here's the thing: you did the math based on how many steps an average person takes in a day. BUT I'd argue he only moves his cane every other step. So now double the number to compensate for the 0.5x multiplier on the number of taps while walking. BUT you also need to take into account the fact he's always been a huntsman. It's also safe to say he's walked more in a single lifetime than the "average person" on Earth, AND he uses his cane to fight. Plus, if we define "lifetime" as "number of reincarnations," we need to take into account many of his lives may have ended very prematurely from the Grimm or even from Salem herself. In addition, as we see, he hasn't always had that specific cane. While he's always had something, it's unknown if it's the same cane but upgraded, or if it's a new one altogether. We also don't know which iteration gave him the cane. Just by the points I've made, compared to your number, I'd argue 1851 lifetimes is too low a number to be a good baseline, comparable to saying "The average lifespan of a human in 2021 is at least one year." I'd argue he's probably lived at least 5000 lifetimes.

That being said, knowing how many times he's used it and how much energy was gathered during each time are two different things because I imagine more energy is gathered when it's used as a weapon than as a cane due to the amount of force applied in both scenarios.

Keep in mind that Oz used MOST of the energy stored in the cane, not all. That means he's likely lived through closer to 2,000 lifetimes. Also, from the few incarnations of Ozma that we've seen, getting soul-bonded with the man seems to have an adverse effect on your life expectancy, and he also isn't present for these people's entire lives, like what we're seeing with Oscar. With that in mind, while there may be 2,000 lifetimes worth of energy stored in the cane, Ozma has likely gone through significantly more people, considering that he only gets to spend about 20-30 years in a body as a rough estimate.
