This footage was first uploaded in November 2016. Probably my favourite walk and camp. From a time when I was out most weekends and a wild camp at least once a month, whatever the weather. But the music was copyrighted from the get go, and I seem to remember agreeing to have the music removed. Not knowing what that would look like, I just moved on. But earlier this year I was asked what had happened to the video. Me never re watching any of the old stuff didn't have a clue, but for the first time in years I re watched it. The first ten minutes was fine but then long periods of silence and what followed was badly out of sync. I was horrified. But the first ten mins I was highly amused at the guy on the screen who had bucket loads of enthusiasm.
The first edit was long, 57min with a dried food review running throughout, chat about other channels not relevant to this edit so it's now 28mins. New music, very similar, to keep the vibe, this time with a licence so no more problems, and it's been ready to go since spring. If it wasn't for my good friend Karl, then it may not have seen the light of day at all. Karl is from the area and knows it well. When a local compliments you on showing off there area, for me it's the highest honour. So this upload is for Karl and anyone else out there that enjoys a simple walk and camp, and the joy of re connecting with nature and self along the way.

Loved this Jim - it was only after watching that I realised it was a few years ago. You take everything for granted in life and this was just a perfect watch for me. I injured my back on an all in The Dales in February. I have done nothing since due to disc problems in my lower spine. It has really affected my mental health. This has been a real tonic. Thank you 🙏🏼 😊

So sorry to hear about your injury, and can't imagine just how hard this year has been for you. Yes we do take things for granted in this life but what would it look like without adventure, stepping out of the comfort zone and going for it. For me it's about skating close to the edge, feeling the adrenalin surge and that wonderful sense of achievement after being on the trail. You I suspect are the same my friend, and you will be back out soon. Mental strength is the other side of poor mental health. This life is beautiful and only sets challenges we can overcome. Stay strong brother.

That we do mate, never explored north of the border, I've done Ben Nevis and we used to holiday in Dumfriesshire as a family when I was a kid but apart from that I have a ton of exploring to do up there, for me it's Cumbria and I plan to relocate there in the New Year. A perfect launch pad for Scotland. Exciting times my friend, I plan to pop up there next summer, I'll keep in touch and if you are still up there be good to catch up. Take care Asa and have a fab xmas.@@asaandthemarchharepart2903

There was so much footage from this trip Jeff, and I did consider just replicating the original edit, but the chat was dated, talking about channels that don't exist anymore, and in truth I've never liked doing reviews, but back then I was doing everything to grow the channel. Today It's different, more about representing an area the best I can, but I do get what your saying. Re editing a number of my old videos won't be for everyone, I know that but many subscribers have never seen them, and for me, it's kinda like filling in the blanks. All good here Jeff thanks, I'll be re locating to Cumbria after Christmas, new chapter and all that. So feeling excited. Hope alls well with you my friend.

@@JimHolden it’s all good Jim, I’m always going back to edit old photos. The thing I remember and enjoyed about this video when it first aired is the solitude it conveyed with long gaps between saying something and saying nowt. Not many people can put it together like that. Any road hope you get back this way again soon.

@@jeffmsc A beautiful perspective that I hadn't consider for this edit Jeff, thank you. You live in such a fantastic area so yes I'll be back, can't say when with the move coming up but I still want to do a walk around waterfall country that you were kind enough to show me...probably four five years back, time zips by for sure but I'll keep in touch and let you know when, be great to have a catch up my friend.

@@JimHolden Yes mate for me the magic you convey is the solitude - a man alone -explorer- in nature letting the camera and the music do the talking. Nobody does it better. Hey good luck in Cumbria, perhaps I will visit you up there one of these days, but last time I went that far north I got nosebleeds! Ha haaa Merry Christmas Jim you legend.

3 days Jim. I know the spectacular prospect one of which was water -out of a trough. Love that - proper surviving on the trail. You got a few roads mate but some wild too. The first camp looked well cozy and not far in the morning from some sacred spots. Ah, they're so good just to mull over. Wise on the chesil beach front. In fact I think your final route was better. Well, a good result on your last camp - a grey morning but we love that. Good going Jim aches and all. Mark P.S commented on your last video. Peace.

We used to drink out of the old troughs when I was a kid Mark. Some had taps back then so it was easy but ridge walks are always problematic for a water supply. This old walk sit's so well in my memory mate, kinda found a format, a style and I always felt it was a bit long at 57mins but I've now found out that some liked the slow plod over three days. Chesil beach tormented me for years after this walk and yes Fleet Lagoon was utterly beautiful with some great history but for me it was plan B and struggled to let it go to fully enjoy it. Strange how life works though as within two years my job took me to Westbay within sight of that big old beach. The six weeks I was there I built up enough mental energy to finally get it done. Day three of this walk wasn't the right time as it's an absolute beast. Dorset will always be one of my favourite counties, love it round there. So sorry to miss your last comment Mark, my last video went up the night before my last trip to Cumbria and spent no time on here for the past few weeks didn't chat to anyone on that one. But I'll pop back and find it, thanks mate always appreciate your comments, hope you are well.

@@JimHolden Always good to get a debrief from you Jim. I know what it's like when you have an aim in mind - it's gotta get done. Chesil Beach? You've got me thinking about it now. But the hike was a grand one none the less. Ha, water troughs - they were our source too and like you still are. Gotta say Fleet Lagoon has a ring to it. Well, I reckon this won't be the last of Dorset. Peace. P.S yeah I get the non reply.
