What an absolutely fabulous thing to do, taking your grandson along with you, his education and outlook will be 100 fold with your knowledgeable input, you couldn't have bought him any sort of present that would be more value than taking him with you on your outings, it is something that he will remember for the rest of his life, more people should take this lead, bravo.

An amazing part 2 Jim. I know how good it must have felt to finally explore the area - well I can see it and hear it in your voice and your grandson. What a great vibe between you both uncovering the gems. I think them skulls were possibly a load of dead birds dumped. Maybe they were poisoned. Re-the boulders weren't they from the last ice age. The first way to big for human hands. Well, good going old mate. Take care out there. Mark

Morning Mark, and sorry for the late reply but I'm not on here much these days. This mini series was for Mason to start his own channel, one of exploration with the old man. It was a great idea but his parents thought it best to leave for now. Totally get it, as the digital world has to be taken seriously and he is only ten so this edit was to pop it on this channel, sadly though most of Mason's chat was left out but he watched all four episodes and loved the re edit, bless him, he was still convinced they would go viral not fully understanding the algorithms of YT. To say he was disappointed is an understatement, me, well I know this channel is finished. The game is too much for me to play anymore. It was never about the numbers Mark, never. But while they were growing and the channel still progressing I could say that with confidence, but now as the numbers drop and people dropping out with all my recent uploads it's clear that my stile isn't relative anymore, sure I still have a bunch of loyal followers that wish me to continue, and for them I've got to this point. The enthusiasm to load the pack, drop out of work for a few days and head out on a lung buster has gone, just don't have it in me anymore, I accepted this fact after my Purbeck hills walk from a couple of years back, great walk and my last real adventure but man it was painful. My feet suffer big time on the trail while carrying a pack and later that year I was on the Great Stones Way and had to re think my trip as the feet were bad from the start, that trip was only a 25 miler over three days, fantastic trip spiritually but physically it took it's toll, I knew these trips were coming to an end. But I do still have a couple of videos to upload, slow edits that I really enjoy, closer to home stuff, family stuff. They will go up when the time is right but for now I'm busy with work and re vamping my van, life is great and I'm in a very good place, peace acceptance is with me and I'm grateful for every moment. I really appreciate your continued support over the years Mark, and wish you well. Take care my friend.

@@JimHolden Hey, there Jim. Many thanks for update on what's going on in your life and hey your grandson too. I get that leaving it at his age. Re-injury and feet and so on I've had a bad journey this last 4 years with my ankle-an old injury/arthritis. I've thought my hiking over - unlike you I'm not willing to let it ho just yet but I get how you've changed direction. And it's so good to hear you're in a god place. Well, Jim all the best as usual - I've loved my virtual trips with you over the years. Peace bro. Mark

He is already planning our next outing together. The idea was to show him just how magical it can be out on the fells with all the gear, enough food to survive and all that. He loved it, thrived up there and I'm proud of him as we must have walked 30-40 miles throughout the week and most of that off the main paths. Thanks for watching Steve.

Morning Asa, thanks for following this mini series, for us it was the best week ever, as you can imagine a ten year old would want lazy days, maybe a day off from walking but we stayed disciplined and stuck to the plan regardless of the weather. I'm proud of him and he now sees himself as a YTer a fell walker and adventurer all good stuff. Hope alls well with you my friend.

Morning Dave, thanks for following our adventure. It really was a great week, one that Mason was looking forward to for so long. As a home schooler, I was asked to help with his lessons so together we came up with this. It had to be a field exercise in an area with too much History to ever find. We found a lot, Mason learned a lot and I loved it. Thanks again my friend.

Nice to see you posting again Jim. I found this very interesting. I knew there is a stone circle on Moor Divock but I wasn't aware of the array of other antiquities in the area. It's not so far from where I live, so maybe I'll head over there myself for an explore sometime. By the way, your grandson is a smashing little man! Take care.
@JimHoldenАй бұрын
Thanks Sarah, yes it's an interesting area for sure, kinda took me by surprise once I started looking. Well worth another look at Moor Divock as we only found about half the sites up there and there is another large circle on the flanks of Loadpot that we couldn't find. The OS has it marked in the wrong place and we missed it while diverting the Red Deer. Mason is a lovely lad and probably the biggest fan of this channel so for him this trip was a long time coming. Thanks again Sarah.

Morning Dan, Those bleak moors go on for ever, and feel well creepy in places but I just couldn't get my head round the sculls. They were Crow's so looking at it now it was obviously the remains of a crow trap that had been dumped out, but for us to find them was odd. Thanks my friend.

Thank you David, Mason is full of questions and so is his sister, for me it's a joy to be able to answer them. ET yes for sure but the real origins of these figures is unknown and there was a forth one that we didn't find, you can google them. Here's a link dacrechurch.com/?page_id=31 again lots of speculation and that's what blows me away with our history, too many mystery's but it's fun checking it out, especially when you have a ten year old adding his innocent wisdom into the mix. Thanks again Old Dave, have a great day.

Hiya Mark old friend, yes I'm well thank you. Such a rich area this, so much history and atmosphere I just Buzz once out and like I said towards the end of last year I was going to make the move back up north but things didn't work out so my future is in the South, but I'm up here right now working, sadly, as I'd love to be out on the fells but I'm planning another trip in August If all goes well. Still not in the groove of doing YT on a regular and these vids were recorded at the end of last year but the inspiration that comes from here is infectious and can't wait to get the camera out again. Hope all's well with you Mark and the channel is still doing well. Hope to pop by soon and catch up. Take care my friend.

I was on the phone with my mom over the weekend and she randomly brought up Dave from the Hairy Bikers had died (I was vaguely aware of who he was) but that he was a Barrovian and they had done a big bike run up from London. I often find the modern world very sinister and feel very angry toward those responsible.. Your videos instantly put me at peace and serve as a reminder that the world is actually full of beauty. The narcissistic political classes can never change that and they are truely insignificant. Inner peace is within us all and it just depends upon us getting out in nature. I've never once seen a red squirrel BTW. I need to get out in the lakes much more. Thanks again for sharing Jim.

Thank you Andy and I couldn't agree more. It seems to me that this modern world is going in a direction that makes me uneasy, so decided I'm not going, and want nothing to do with it. I'll pay my tax and visit the supermarket and smile at whoever looks my way but that's it. Dropping out was. and still is the best single action I've done. We do not need to comply with this silly stuff anymore, the establishment has had it's day, just a matter of time before we see real change. Until then, Nature all the way brother. Take care my friend.

@@JimHolden you are 100% correct. We can only be controlled if we allow ourselves to submit to that control. Like you I want absolutely nothing to do with any of it. I'll resist with every fibre of my being as we owe it to the younger generations (our kids and grandkids) to do so. I will always sleep soundly at night which is more than our self serving political classes can do. Nice to see people out there are getting it. Thanks again for such inspiring and positive content.
