US kept their Brownings in service all the way up til they got the colt which then got replaced with the Vulcan way later on

My grandfather was a mechanic on military airfield, and he had to work with more than 100 IL-28's, even flew few times with the back gunner... without parachute... and he was sitting on the escape trapdoor

Hey Phly, the confusion over the armament of the Il-28 is because it has two 23mm guns in the turret but it also has two 23mm guns in the nose firing forward. The GSh-23 used in the gun pods are twin barrel guns and are different from the single barrel guns in the nose and turret mount.
