An incredible stretch of Spain awaits us when we hit the road after a good nights rest. We find ourselves in the remote southeast part of the 'Meseta Central' heading up north. We meet a friendly local wine farmer who tells us about the ins and outs of his vineyard. Beautiful valleys with crystal clear water, a variety of wild herbs, grazing animals and lovely off road conditions make for a perfect bikepacking experience.

In ride 4days a week. 69 years old. I have a 70s Puch and took off the derailer to make a one speed. I put half of the chain on the cranks lowest gear and the other half on the rear wheel highest gear. This is the best bike I ever had a real honey. Guys here are getting rid of their old ten speeds and getting light weight 10 speeds for an easier ride. In Los. Angeles bike trails are being put over old abandoned train tracks. When they mature they really are fun and amazing. I do not really have to buy bikes there are discarded ones everywhere that's how you learn repairs especially when the chain falls off and you need to take out more links . Cool trip thanks.

I have a 70s ouch which are hard to find in Los Angeles. I was able to remove the derailer and made a one speed. I put the chain on the low crank gear and the other half on the highest gear on the back wheel. Guys in la are riding light 26s . Motorized bikes are everywhere and the new bike paths we're train tracks went through town are mature and super great.

One has to be very careful in collecting water from streams that are located near agricultural fields. There is often runoff from fields includes ammonia (nitrogen) and pesticides, not to mention animal waste. Even though these products are supposed to be used in a manner that limits their contamination of adjacent streams and lakes, sometimes this is inevitable, if for example, when there are heavy rains. Most high quality water filters will take care of such contaminants. Enjoyed seeing your tour of the growing areas and meeting the farmer.

I'm at the moment doing a circuit in the region of Aracena, Spain. Check it out, great bicycle tracks, beautiful villages, all white houses with a castle in the middle that often dates to Arabic times. We have seen foxes and wild boars as there is iberian natural forest all around. Also there is excellent smoked ham which comes from black pigs that only eat natural acorns fallen from the trees. This whole region is in a perfect balance man/nature/animal farming with no fertilization, excessive hunting or tree cutting. It's been like this for centuries.

Hi Guys - great video, lovely portrayal of how most of inland Spain looks. The guy you were talking to didn't really have a dialect more of a local accent. Thanks for the mention of the "casa de campo" which translates as field house rather than country house which has another meaning entirely in English. Spain is renowned for its sunsets and sunrises caused by the amount of dust in the atmosphere. The colours are spectacular especially the purples, mauves and lilacs. It's a wonderful country.

@@WheelstoWander my Spanish is good and my Catalan is passable. I understand fully what you say about the speed at which the Spanish speak. When I 1st arrived here I would always preface any interaction with "Do you speak English?" hoping that they would slow down and maybe they would for the 1st sentence but then it would be back to 300 words a minute haha. Try a telephone conversation, now that is really interesting. Anyways enjoy your travels I have thoroughly enjoyed them - your videos were a beacon of light during the dark days of lockdown and before Covid became manageable. I feel the deep urge to go travelling myself. Take care

I paused at 2:52 with Eric's agonized climbing face, and made more coffee and lentil soup , still in my underwear. "Will this epiosode be brutal"? I thought. No, it came out awesome. Maudi's interaction with the wine guy is the reason we all ride these huge doofy looking bikes, constantly explaining why. That guy would not be so open at some local wine grower's convention or at the farmer's market. He'd totally have his public redneck game on. He was obviously flattered that Maudi was genuinely interested in his ancient craft. It's funny , I pruned some white willow shoots during that pause also (using them for aspirin) . My hand hurts a little. But then I hit play and saw his electric power shears. Now I want those. That guy obviously likes quiet things , no electric mini chainsaws that are now the rage. I would never have learned that if I hadn't seen this. Onward.

Way too much pocket/sophomore pseudo philosophy going on. Utterly unwatchable due to that sophomoric attempt to find some deeper meaning. Seriously, we ride bikes because we like riding, like the views and so on. Which is also why I watched parts of it.
