I'm 57 years old ( but I read on a 58 year old level), and I remember when I was about nine or ten years old that the McDonald's around here ran a promotion where if you could walk up to the counter and say the "Two all beef patties..." jingle in five seconds, you would get the burger for free. I have always been fairly ambivalent about the burger, but I have always been a huge fan of free food. I trained myself to recite the jingle in three seconds back in the day, and even today with my advanced age (and reading ability), I can do it in about four seconds. That was a fantastic marketing campaign.

57, reading at a 58 level. Ahead of the curve. I remember a jingle from the past but only the way we made fun of it. We used to sing, Grab a bucket of snot, brush the bottom and top, the rest kind of fades away but even back then we knew rotten ronnies was just that. I do miss the Flintstones, Here we come on the run, with a burger on a bun and a slice of dill pickle on the side.

Interesting fact: For several years around 2010, the Big Mac was nowhere to be seen in ads or the overhead menus of Argentinian McDonalds. If you checked the small menus in the walls to the side, you would find it there prized way, way cheaper than similarly sized combos. It was speculated that this was an agreement with Guillermo Moreno, the then commerce secretary, to modify how Argentina was ranked in the big mac index. This has been denied by McDonalds, but there is no clear explanation about why the big mac was hidden from the public or priced that cheap. As a person that grew there during that decade, it came to a surprise to me to learn that it was supposedly the flagship product of the brand.

I don't get it?
@Valeforer2 жыл бұрын
@@kewl851 Remember the part of the video where it talks about the "Big Mac Index"? This index classifies countries' buying power by how expensive their big macs are. Argentina has a long history of trying to hide inflation, and during that decade "for some reason" the big mac was half the price of everything else and absolutely hidden from public view. Hence it is speculated that the government paid Mcdonalds to reduce the price of the big mac so that we would be better positioned in the big mac index.

At the time, the Mega Mac had four meat patties: two in between the middle bun and the top bun and two in between the middle bun and the bottom bun. When my dad had a taste of the Mega Mac, he thought that at the time, Big Mac in America tasted better. Me, today, because McDonald's isn't exactly high-quality food where I live currently (Memphis, TN, that is), I haven't had a Big Mac in goodness who knows how long. Plus, I tested positive for borderline pre-diabetes recently so on top of watching out for sugary stuff, I have to keep an eye on what types of grains that I can put inside of me. I remember when McDonalds would run the 2 for $5 for a BigMac. That hit right around when I was in highschool and had a little bit of money in the pocket. Amazing I didn't kill myself.

Was the MegaMac a global thing? I remember it being a special item in the 90’s but on local McDonalds kept on doing it after the promotion. I never knew if it was sold elsewhere.

I LOVE your videos! You should do one of the McDonald's song and how the records were distributed in newspapers. I remember as a child, my father gave me the record from the newspaper he bought. Memories! ❤

I grew up in America, now live in Europe, and I think McDonald's is better here. It's considered more of an upscale, trendy place, and the food is usually fresher (and you often have to wait a bit longer than back home). The QP is my go-to item, but I like a BM now and then. I think they're the perfect mix of meat, starch, crunch, and acidity. I'm reading a lot of hate for the BM on here, but sometimes I don't want a dense, meat-forward sandwich. The BM isn't meant to be an inch-thick burger that makes you feel bloated and sleepy for two hours afterward. Sometimes I want one of those, sure, but after a long day at work and a long evening of dealing with the kids in front of me, the BM is just the right amount of sustenance.

During the mid-80s, McDonald's held a promotional contest based on the Big Mac song. When you made the appropriate purchase from McDonald's you could receive a 45 sized vinyl record that featured the Big Mac song being sung by a group of children. The contest was reliant on whether or not the kids singing the song could accurately complete the song. If they did not complete the song, your record was a loss. However, if you got the record of which the kids did correctly complete the song, then your record was a winner. (A large amount of money being the grand prize, if I remember right.)

It was nice until prices grew up to unreasonable levels. It's much cheaper and healthier to prepare a burger at home than to purchase a tiny sandwich in an overrated restaurant.

@@sicknado I don't understand it either. I like cucumbers, but pickles just bother me, for some reason.

Yanno, while I love pickles to death personally, I feel there should be a push to have unpickled cukes as an option. I feel like those are equally valid and if anything, crunchier for people who want a burger with more bite.

When I got my 1st job working at McDonald's twu blocks from my residence in Milwaukee Hamburgs n fries were 12c each. Job lasted two weeks before I broke into radio broadcasting at 920 WOKY. Big Boy's in Milwaukee were called Marc's Big Boy's.

My problem with the big mac is that the cheese should be on top of both patties, not just underneath the bottom one.

A Big Mac Museum. No surprise there...we have a Spam Museum here in Minnesota. Speaking of burgers...about that suggestion I made in the BBQ across the USA video you made earlier. Any chance of us getting a burger styles across the US video? (I left a couple of Minnesota burgers to get you started in that post.)

Used to love the Big Mac as a kid, but nowadays I don't like the sauce anymore. I always thought I've grown out of liking it, like many things you like as a kid but don't as an adult. But if they changed the sauce over the course of time...maybe that's the reason.

It's interesting that the special sauce recipe was changed in 2004. I believe that was the same year I ate a Big Mac and suffered from a horrible case of explosive diarrhea. I never ate another Big Mac since. I only go to McDonald's for their breakfasts.

I still get a Big Mac when I go to McDonald’s but I wish they’d give the option to use quarter pounder meat like they did with the Grand Mac. Nowadays it’s mostly bun and lettuce, the patties are tiny.
