The Specials - A Message to You, Rudy | Reaction!

The Specials are pretty special, eh? I love their genre melding sound and upbeat spirit. This track is pretty straightforward in its lyrics, but the instruments are plentiful and cool. It's really such a relaxing, swaying song. Plus, I found out the meaning behind Rudy and a rude boy.

Good to see you react to The Specials again. Was lucky enough to see them live a couple of years ago for their 40th anniversary tour. Currently have the best of Terry Hall (Specials, Fun Boy Three and The Colourfield) on loop in my car. Definitely worth checking out The Colourfield.

As a movie buff, this takes me back to a wonderful edgy comedy filled with amazing music like The Specials, The Clash, The Jam and Queen. It’s called “Grosse Pointe Blank”. John Cusack is a hitman facing an existential crisis and ends up going to his ten year high school reunion. It’s hilarious and action packed fun. You might like it. I love it. A 90s flick.

So glad you are back with the Specials. By far my favourite band growing up, I don't think they have a dud song and are an incredible live band. For your next track should maybe be their first single "Gangsters". I swithered about whether or not to add this as my memory might be playing tricks on me, but I'm fairly sure Rico also played trombone on the original by Dandy. By the time the Specials got him on board he was already a legend because of all the original ska tracks he played on.

Terry Hall recorded two different songs called 'She'. One was a cover of the Charles Aznavour song, which Hall did in collaboration with Dave Stewart of The Eurythmics, under the name 'Vegas'. The video actually featured Aznavour himself, as well as Hall and Stewart (and a dog). The other, earlier version was a Colourfield song that had an amusing video, which can be viewed on YT.
