Hi Paul, just wanted to thank you for this fantastic series, I've spent the last few months catching up with all the episodes, and I'm now up to date. I was slightly late in my initial journey with the humble Speccy, my first model being the ZX Spectrum 128K+ (1986). However, the humble Speccy in all its forms has a personality all of its own, and I loved it dearly. Star Firebirds! I loved that. I used to be a member of the Firebird Silver club, used to get a free game every few months, this was one of them. It was a nice little game. That's a real blast from the past! Thanks for all the hard work you've put into this series, it's been great to watch, and look forward to more. :)

This is among my favorite shows not only on youtube but on any sort of media. This is absolutely top quality entertainment. The funny thing is that I grew up in the US and have never used a speccy in my life which is a tribute to the quality of your program. I just find it extremely interesting to see how the rest of the world experienced gaming. Since i started watching the show however I bit the bullet and bought a plus 2 that was modded to play on my US display. I am also interested in getting an Amiga now as well, I would love to see you do a program on the Amiga.

Hi, Thanks for your comments. Glad you enjoy the show. Hope you have some good times with your new purchase. The Amiga is probably my second fav machine, had all models over time. Don't think I would have the time though for a show on it - this one takes a while to put together. Maybe a special!

This is the best Speccy show on the whole Internet. I'm always waiting for a new episode :D

I know monthly waits are a pain, but I would rather put out regular, well made shows, on time, than random ones that may not be as good.

Some great demos there. Shame only a few of those are archived on World Of Spectrum.

Nice section on demos; I particularly liked the overview on graphics styles. Would you consider doing a future episode on programming techniques and how the demo scene pushed the hardware?
@BuckingTheTrend200810 жыл бұрын
Mmm not a bad idea, although I would have to have some help in that department.

though i was a commodore 64 owner and loved it to bits, i always did appreciate the spectrums resolution and ability to create wonderful cartoony sprites. the c64 just could not pull of the same kind of style. the programmers generally to busy making coloured games for the sake of being coloured rather than creating monochrome art which spectrum programmers became so very apt with.

Watched this old episode again - great! Just noticed that some of the demo names were slightly wrong: On Pouet you should search for "nightmares" (not nightmare) and "traumwerk" (not trauma werk).

Let's not forget building your own Pentagon 128/1024SL to watch those amazing russian demos - that's what I did - complete with a TurboSound FM and a NeoGS.

10:48...this is the play layout of the 2007 award winning Atari 800xl game Yoomp! ...which i'm fortunate to own the original box release,...what i wanna know is is this demo footage before that game was released or was this demo footage designed after?! It would have been interesting to see Yoomp on the Spectrum, it's a fantastic game,..cost me a bomb for the original though :-/
@BuckingTheTrend200810 жыл бұрын
Dizzruptor demo was released in 2012, so after the game. Maybe the demo segment was inspired by the game?
@ZEUSDAZ10 жыл бұрын
No doubt then being 2012,...was interesting to see how a speccy version of Yoomp would have looked like.

Paul Jenkinson Had trouble finding the demo online. Finally found it as "Dizzzruptor". As author said on Pouet "It is a tribute to Atari Yoomp game". ps.Demos feature was great, my vote goes for it to be a permanent part of the show. Great show as always! Thanks Paul!

I'm quite cynical about demo software because although visuals looks magnificent, you will never be able to generate the level of quality showcased when you attempt to create geometry that can be interacted with because a 7mhz 68000 CPU does not have enough logical cycles to remotely handle that level of visual fidelity. For me, demos gave people false and unrealistic expectations of the power of their machine
