Nice to know that such a vibrant fanzine community existed in the UK. And that book at the end is gorgeous, I'm reallyt tempted to buy it :)

Me too. Couldn't throw them when I was moving out and moving home, they're still in a box with some of my old hardware I've recently dug into a bit for nostalgia.

Don't worry... (I'm sure you weren't!); I only found this channel a couple of months ago, and have been relishing it! I was in my very early 20's when the Speccy came out, and we used to sell them like crazy from the small independent computer shop where I was working at the time! This show brings back SO many happy memories for me! :-)

Wow, those dominator vertical sections are pretty much a Spectrum version of Xenon 2!

I've now watched every single episode and loved every minute of it. Keep up the good work and memories. Got my First Spectrum for Christmas 1983. In 1987 bought myself a +3, but hated it. The Amstrad Spectrums (especially the +2) looked and were tacky. If Sir Clive hadn't have thrown all his money away developing the dreadful C5, he wouldn't have needed to sell out to Sugar. I still think he was a genius though.

I'm not surprised Sir Clive was smiling being in the arms of Gillian Anderson.

Excellent as always :) Dominator looks like an attempt to do something akin to Xenon 2 on the Speccy. Such a shame that the programmers didn't take advantage of the 128K features like the extra memory for a single load or the AY chip for a better sound. 3D Space Wars is very impressive for a 16K game.

Yeah, better sound and little easier gameplay would have made it much better.

Ah Fanzines. When YS died and there were no more mainstream magazines, they had helped people dismayed at this loss in their last/last-few issues by listing various fanzines (and for me, with showcasing the demoscene too - led to me getting into that and making a couple demos). I've still got a collection of some Format, ZAT, ZX Files, Crashed and er.. 1 other? Those helped me discover the shows (attended a few NSSS and met up with people I'd not seen before). There were tape/disk-zines too, like Outlet (got a few of those somewhere, I had a letter/software published in one) and from the demoscene groups there were equivalents like E3's Subliminal Extacy.

Great show as usual Paul, I'll have to get that book. I never realized 3D Space War was 16K I might just go and dig it out now :)

Great episode as always! Battle City looks lovely - time to hunt that down, as it shows off the Speccy well. Really sad to see Dominator was a wasted port, I've played it a bit elsewhere, and would have thought it'd be perfect for 128k support :( Loved seeing those fanzines - a wonderful snapshot of history indeed.

Great show thank you, I just tried that Willy Mod it's great. I think the author might be Spanish instead of French cause he did another mod which is all in Spanish

The player ship in Dominator just looks way too big! Shame as the other graphics look pretty nice. Lack of play testing again me thinks!
