OP is right that believers doom-preach too much, just as some of us delude ourselves into thinking the world is sunshine and rainbows. We're not God, and we're not the devil. We are disappointments to begin with, and as made in the image of God, we never had the choice to exist in sin through Adam, but God is the one who gave us joy to begin with, only through His Love for us that drives us through the Cross. Who says we were God and possess all goodness and strength to carry it? Everything is real except the masks we believe in. It is the world that turned its back on God disappointing Him, even many of us do, and through repentance come back to Him. It is He who gives us a reason to be in the world, yet not of the world to begin with. None of us chose to have that choice of good or evil. That's what being made in God's image is. The Lord waits to give His joy on us, yes He does.
