This just made me realize that they have to read the spin that their opponent is going to put on their shot before the ball is even hit it or you just simply lose...they have to basically match the intensity and oppose the spin of every hit. That is mindblowing considering the speed and level of skill here
@ominious7082
@ominious7082 5 ай бұрын
Not only oppose the spin, you have to add your own spin force to it and do so unpredictably to confuse your opponent to win. Else the opponents reads you like a book. Add too much spin ajd you miss the shot or opponent gets the point. Mad respect for these players who made these calculations into their instincts man

Same as cricket (probably even baseball) where you have to read opponent's hand movement to guess where will the ball go as you don't have enough time to react once the ball has left bowler's hand.

I see that this yellow shirted player is giving blue opponent a chance to win. In previous short(it seems to be newer video) i saw him desperately defending from red shirted player who was too strong in offense. It's not really reflexes but experience. Reflexes can hardly be trained/improved. Studies have shown that tt professionals are not really quicker compared to "normal" people. However their experience helps them to know where the ball is going before the shot. They can already react because of their opponents body movements. We can only react when we see the ball going towards us and that's a little late.

This is way more incredible than actual tennis in every way
@samsunginsync
@samsunginsync Ай бұрын
Wouldn’t say so, both incredible in their own ways. Tennis ball is much heavier, requires a lot more energy from your body to hit at 80+ mph in rallies which pros make look so easy, the return of serve in tennis against a 1st serve is statistically one of the hardest shots (in racket sports) because of how little time you have to make sure you get the ball into the right part of your racket head/string bed. Table tennis has its own requirements and they are quite different than those of tennis.
@aaronstevenson6569
@aaronstevenson6569 Ай бұрын
@@samsunginsync Different but more incredible. The reaction time these guys have is insane and court positioning is so intricate. It’s just the same concepts as tennis but on a smaller scale and way more detailed. If somebody has to be stronger to hit the tennis ball fast that’s cool and all but not that impressive to me.

@michikatsutsugikuni3098 3 ай бұрын
Well, if you practice long enough it isn't that much of an art. Like you know where the ball is coming, and mostly the spin. Out of experience. But that's another point that's really impressive, if you want to be good at table tennis you can't just start at 10 or 12 like in football or basketball. Because the depth of skill is much bigger, and those players both started at below 6 years old, and some japanese and chinese players even started at 2 or 3 years old. Because you need a huge amount of time to learn and perfect the technique. In other sports, the movements are mostly natural which means that even a beginner can do a lot against an intermediate player. But in table tennis, a complete beginner would stand not even the slightest chance against a somewhat advanced beginner. And that guy wouldn't stand a chance against a really advanced beginner, who would lose like 11:1 against a barely intermediate player, and so on. For example, in germany, we have this kind of point based ranking system. The best players have 2700 points (the goat, ma long had 2800 once), and a complete beginner would have like 400 points. And even a 200 points difference is something that you cannot cross. Meaning, someone with 700 points would get destroyed by someone with 900 points. And not just a bit. This really shows the depth of the sport.
@JohnnyNumber11
@JohnnyNumber11 3 күн бұрын
@@michikatsutsugikuni3098 The german system starts at 600-800 points normally for kids, not 400. And sure, normally u won't win against someone with 200 points more than u, but it happens from time to time, because playstyle still matters at that difference. I won 2 games with ~200 points difference. Also some people are literally underrated, mostly very talented kids. A kid i trained won 5+ games so far against people with 200+ points more than him.
@michikatsutsugikuni3098
@michikatsutsugikuni3098 3 күн бұрын
@@JohnnyNumber11 I didn't say the kids start at 400. A complete beginner who never played the sport would be at around 400. Of course, there is no one at that level that plays competitively, so that amount of points is never reached. And yes, it depends on playing style if you win or lose, you could also win against someone with 300 points more than you. but that mostly happens with kids. An adolescent 1400 player is a lot worse than a 1400 kid, because the kid hasn't had enough time to consolidate its rating, and also still grows a lot. And that effect stacks, because if the kids play against other kids that have the same "problem" then they're gonna get even less points. However, some kids also play a lot of tournaments, especially in the adult category, hence they have more rating. I personally am of the first type, I haven't played a lot of matches and tournaments but I trained a lot so I usually beat people that have 200 or more points than me consistently with relative ease (maximum was like 400 points). Also, in more populated areas, and especially in areas where there are a lot of clubs and players, like the cologne-düsseldorf region, players that have the same rating as people from more rural areas tend to be stronger than them. Sometimes, this difference is maybe even 200-300 points.

Many of these are obviously wrong. Slow backspin shot having the same speed as a backhand topspin from 5 meters behind the table? Yeah sure lol

TT would be so much interesting like this
@lavasurfer22

Over 70mph and about 1/3 to halfway the distance between a picher and the strikezone, with far greater ball speed rotation and fewer attempts to make contact (one each time), all while often being on the move, understanding the spin, countering the spin, and placing the ball right where you want it while maintaining balance. Yet many people I know want to say baseball is more difficult even when they haven't compeated in both as I have. The most difficult part about baseball falls short of the difficulty in table tennis. That isn't to say baseball is easy. It definitely isn't.

Mark my words: this will be a staple of TT replays a couple of years down the line. With real-time tracking and AI measuring the speeds based on number of frames it takes for the ball to travel a known distance, it's easily achievable nowadays. In fact, why don't you pitch it to the ITTF? I bet they'll pay you good money for this tech.

This illustrates speed, but spin and footwork are this sport's other two crucial areas. The more you dig, the more excitement and wonder you'll get. Not to mention a variety of rubbers/rackets. All aspects make TT very interesting indeed. Control of a 2.7gm plastic ball is the key.

The speed shown is not accurate because it is the average speed. The speed of the ball when it comes off the racket after a top spin or counter top spin is much faster, somewhere between 60km/h to 150 km/h depending on the stroke. It is at the end that the ball slows down considerably, which makes the overall speed lower.
