Ragan, Former NASA Program Manager and Aerospace Engineer, explains what the Omega Speedmaster represents for NASA, and how it became officially "Flight Qualified by NASA for all manned Space missions" and the first watch to be worn on the Moon. James H. Ragan explains the testing procedure and the different watches involved in the Gemini and Apollo programs.

4:55 - The most amazing tests for this watch model were probably the acceleration test to 7.25 G x 5 minutes and then to 16 G for 30 sec, and the shock resistance test of six 40 G shocks in 6 directions. These watches were built probably stronger than most tanks.

Loved this video! I have a vintage 1976 Speedmaster Pro "moonwatch" as well as a few modern ones (one standard as used by NASA for EVA, one with sapphire display caseback, and finally a Limited Edition with panda dial).

It’s “radial” dial, as in radius. It refers to the way the numerals are configured around the subdials. Super rare variant.
