Super snappy video Nancy! I want you to know that I went to a jeweler's school, that will remain nameless, and I have truly learned more from watching your video's than I did at school. You are "wonerful, wonerful, wonerful"! Thank you for all the years of learning and laughter! 😂😂

But everything was by Michelle and I had my picture. So now it’s Autumn so I add my name Autumn Michelle

Beautiful work. I watch on of your older video's and you mentioned you put baking soda in used pickle then you either threw it away or disposed of it. Other artists say take it to toxic dump facility. You are so knowledgeable about most everything jewelry What's the correct way to dispose plz.🙏😒
@NancyHamiltonJewelry
@NancyHamiltonJewelry 2 жыл бұрын
Michelle, a lot depends on your local requirements. From what I've read, for my area, with personal use, it is ok to neutralize the pickle and then dispose of it when it is no longer an active acid - in the sink. Another method of disposal involves evaporating the pickle and throwing away the (neutralized) crystals. Once neutralized, the only issue left is the copper present in the pickle. Copper should not be introduced into waterways as it is toxic to aquatic life. So, don't dump it in the creek, pond, lake, ocean, etc.! Personally, I change my pickle maybe every 3-5 years. I dispose of my spent pickle by neutralizing it, then evaporating. The amount of copper introduced via your pickle is minimal. For a comparison of the amount of copper generated in your pickle, versus copper in the environment, envision the amount of copper that enters our waste treatment facilities daily via the use of copper plumbing pipes. Many, many homes and business still have copper plumbing. Also consider the amount of non-refined/un-recycled copper pipe and other metals that are tossed into our landfills. The amount in your pickle pot is miniscule in comparison. Also, many people use sodium bisulfate (the active ingredient in many pickles) as a spa product. Are they neutralizing their hot tubs and bringing the fluid into a hazardous waste facility when they change the water? Probably not. Hopefully, they are NOT dumping that water into a creek! As I said in the beginning, it's best to check with your local hazardous waste treatment center before deciding on any of the options I mentioned above. Good luck! N

Is that solid square wire or is that half round wire I think I missed it in the beginning are use half round wire and right now I think I’m using eight gauge half round wire or six gauge half round wire for my ring shanks or double ring shanks but even though I am a silver smith instructor I still have a weak point and that’s with my ring bands and I don’t know why
@NancyHamiltonJewelry
@NancyHamiltonJewelry 2 жыл бұрын
You can use 1/2 round or square or even round. I used square in the video. What seems to be the problem with your ring shanks? Thanks!
@aumi.jewels

@@NancyHamiltonJewelry Probably because I don’t make as many rings as I do other designs. I make great stack rings but right now I’m making matching varisite cab cuffs and rings. My Varisite is top quality and I just want to get it right. I started on the bands last night and so far they are looking good... Thank you so much for replying back to me 🤗

How do they get a stone in between and have it stay like you see some rings? You know where the stone looks suspended between the two?
@NancyHamiltonJewelry
@NancyHamiltonJewelry 2 жыл бұрын
I'm working on that video now! You would have to make the setting and then open the "legs" of the ring just enough to put the setting in. It should be a very tight fit. More in the video.

Love your videos! How do you sign your work? With a scribe, electronic tool or is it a stamp?
@NancyHamiltonJewelry
@NancyHamiltonJewelry 2 жыл бұрын
I use an electric engraver. Something like this from Smile Amazon: amzn.to/3FXTFi7. I've always wanted a logo stamp but, alas, not enough to actually order one. Haha. I have more flexibility with the electric graver: I can add date, number in series, hallmark, and my name.
