I was literally rewatching old spongebob seasons and I use to think squidward has his relatable moments (which he does) and just grumpy all the time but after rewatching I just realized how depressingly insane he is

I got a theory This is my Mr. Krabs theory. I see a lot of people say Mr. Krabs is evil but, I don't think he is. I mean, he has done his fair share of bad things but he has also done some good things. In "Selling Out" he gives all of his money away to get the Krusty Krab and his crew back, that feels very out of character for someone who is ruthless for his money. In "Bossy Boots", Mr. Krabs cannot fire Pearl because He just cannot say no to her, even though he is losing money. In "Pickles", He tries to help Spongebob, and even though it started just to help him work, he really seems to show compassion. I think Mr. Krabs is not greedy, it is a mental disorder. As shown in "Friend or Foe", Mr. Krabs's only friend growing up was Plankton. I think after Plankton left Krabs, Mr. Krabs only friend was the money he made. From that point forward, he made himself think that the money was his friend. I mean, he had his navy buddies, but he barely got to see them after his time in the navy. Him thinking his money is his friends makes sense of everything. He cries when he loses money because he thinks he is losing another friend, and he does not want to lose another friend. he gets more money because he wants more friends. He treats his money well, because he is trying to treat them as a friend. I think him dating Mrs. Puff is showing him that he can make real friendship and it is breaking through his "Greed" with his money. I hope if they do finish Spongebob, one of the final episodes will be Mr. Krabs getting over this "Greed" and making real friends and relationships. I think Mr. Krabs tried to stop his "Greed" by going to the navy. I think it worked because you never see him obsessed with money in the navy flashbacks. But, I think when he quit the navy he realized that he would probably never see his navy friends again, that is why in "The Krusty Krab Training Video" it says he went into a depression after the war. And after that he slowly started reverting back to his "Greed". That is my Theory.

Unfortunately, "One Coarse Meal" kinda ruins that idea, to an extent: Mostly everything you've said could track, but he gleefully drives Plankton past the point of total despair, and is joyed to do so. Krabs is pretty evil, even more so when you remember him and Plankton had known each other since they were newborns.

I agree with you in theory, but your examples are not successful, as: In the Squid's Day of the Year episode, what Squidward and Sass were thinking about SpongeBob and it was not his imagination that he saw in front of him. In the episode Death for Pie, what Squidward was thinking were just expectations and scenarios that he thought would happen. Yes, they are imagination, but they are just expectations.
