I think it's a split floor situation, the library is the second and third floor (given its tall enough for a door from the third floor to reach it) so yes that hatch is roof access.

However, in Sing a Song Patrick, Patrick is shown in an upstairs room that is definitely not SpongeBob’s bedroom, gym, or library. “A pal for Gary” makes it incredibly clear that the library is the main “core” of the house. This room is the centre of the Pineapple for the 2nd and 3rd floors, with SpongeBobs Gym, Bathroom, bedroom and other miscellaneous rooms being “Orbital rooms” on the outside layer of the Pineapple, all connected to the Library on the inside. The room stretches from the second floor up to the roof (complete with Roof hatch at the top of the bookshelves that SpongeBob can reach VIA ladder) and is directly above the living room, the biggest room on the first floor (The Kitchen, hallway and Garage are orbital rooms of the Living room, just like how the Bedroom and bathroom are connected to the Library)

I commented on the garage video saying that I mapped out all the rooms in SpongeBob's house, and I'm fairly certain that there is actually enough space for all the rooms we know of. If I had any 3D modeling skills, I could almost definitely make a full 3D model of SpongeBob's pineapple, outside and inside. And include every feature we know of, and a few we don't. And I think there's probably even one small room on the first floor we don't know about. A tiny storage room or something. There's also quite likely at least one hallway we've never seen. As for the library... I think the official house tour video on the official KZbin channel is just straight up wrong. I am almost entirely certain that SpongeBob's house only has 2 floors, and the library is actually on both. It's the tallest room in the house. It definitely covers 2 floors. The episodes where they claim that the door under the slide leads to the staircase are also wrong. Those stairs do, in fact, lead to his bedroom. And there is another staircase on the other side of the pineapple (next to the downstairs bathroom) that leads to a 2nd floor hallway, and that hallway is most likely where that door leads.

I will watch it for sure! I feel like the SpongeBob universe needs a more consistent canon. This is a great example because the map of Bikini Bottom and surroundings is inconsistent. For example the map that Steve drew for the first time looks different to the one in the 2004 encyclopedia and Battle of Bikini Bottom map is different too. Then there are episodes that show other climates and cultures, like the one when Gary gets addicted to his snail goodies. Or the one when Krabs wants to tell Spongy the formula but they walk away from the Krusty Krab, so no one can hear them and they walk in a circle, ending up at the Krusty Krab again, where they started. On the journey we see so many biomes. The episode with the road trip holiday and the giant bee or the first movie show a lot too. I wonder where specific places are or where you really end up following some roads. The mountains should be very close to Bikini Bottom because in the Yeti Krabs episode it looks not far away. Also creates like the one just mentioned would be an interesting topic for a video! Or what species the incidentals are supposed to portray. Also, the Goo lagoon seemes to have remote islands, what‘s on the other side of it and what‘s inside it? I know we, all of us who watch this channel and ofc you, the creator, are probably overthinking this whole franchise.

I think it would make sense if the hatch of the roof was at the top of the library. The library is on floor two but is as tall as floor 2 and 3 combined. Hence why the door with the slide from SpongeBobs room is positioned in the middle of the bookcase

I was always deeply fascinated by Spongebob's library, among many colorful and whimsical interior designs in Bikini Bottom, his library always came off as a special place of introspection, very private, while still keeping creative underwater motifs like the shell pillars and couch hanging from the hookline. And although I don't recall seeing Spongebob ever read books it's fun to imagine how he would spend time there, besides the occasions we do see that scene used for everything except reading.

If you just consider that the library entrance door is not touching it's ceiling, and that it's a pretty tall room, you can assume the ceiling hatch actually leads to the roof
