What kind of crazy, f**ked up world do we live in where the Millie Bobbie Brown card is worth more than Cy Young?!?

Just so you young men know, Roger Staubach, with the Dallas Cowboys back in the 70's was a legitimate threat as a runner and a passer . Bobby Douglass, with the Bears for a time in the 70's was also a monster running threat back in '72 when he almost ran for 1000 yards. Although he would have to be at best described as "less than stellar" when it came to his passing. Fran Tarkenton was one crazy man when it came to scrambling.
@williampotts72057 ай бұрын
good call. I was thinking the same with Bobby Douglass and Staubach. My era. Tarkenton was pretty much just a scramler. No threat of just running with the ball.

This is a fun series. You should think about telling the participants the value differential. Might create some more parity instead of a simple 50/50 shot of getting it right.

Round 1: Carew. Those high numbers for the '67 Topps do make a difference. Eddie Murray, is a bit under valued though. Round 2: Cunningham. McMahon would have made sense as he, won a Super Bowl with the Chicago Bears 1985 team. But Cunningham, was the better player of the two. Came in 2nd for MVP 3 times. Round 3: Brees: This was a tough one. Both HOF QB's. While Kurt Warner has 2 MVP's. I think Brees is still ahead all-time. Round 4: Ruth.. I mean the GOAT vs. whoever that is. Tommy Carroll being in a PSA 10, shouldn't matter. It's BABE RUTH. Round 5: Sanders. I think it's one of those rare cases where the popularity of a RB. Can actually compete with a QB. Round 6: Yeah. I have no words. And I don't have any disdain towards Stranger Things. But, I mean, Cy Young. What are we even doing?! I'm going to contact Green Day, and see if they can work on a new song: ''Don't want to be a PSA idiot.'' 😅 Chris, even though for myself, the assigned grade is secondary to the card. I hope more collectors will look at the card, not just label. A fun tournament. Thanks for putting this all together. Congrats Dustin! Dustin, did well throughout each round as well. Jeremy, great effort. And you were a formidable opponent. I'm going to start preparing for a potential viewer's tournament. Going into my Rocky Balboa mode. Hopefully, I won't tear something running up and down the stairs. The best ability is availaibility. So they say. Yea.

@rlsfrny7 ай бұрын
No sir, my friend. Tarkenton started in the early 60s for the Vikings. By the time Bobby Douglass came around, Tarkenton was already a big star. He was a scrambler cuz he had no o-line to protect him.
@stuke19767 ай бұрын
@@rlsfrny I get what you are saying, I am from Minnesota and saw Tarkenton play many games. He was a scrambler. He never rushed for more than 400 yards in a season. Douglas, Vick and Cunningham all rushed for more than 900 yards in a season. Not taking anything away from Francis, he was a better passer.

I felt like, revisiting this tournament, it was a fun one. I was thinking if you do end up having this tournament again in the future. Whether it's just the KZbinrs, a commenters tournament or maybe a hybrid. One idea could be besides guessing prices based on 'pop' count, the contestants, are given a stat. Hits, strike outs, wins, home runs, etc. Then they have to guess, which player of, the 2 had the higher number. Or greater WAR. I don't know. Just a random thought on a early Sunday morning.

I have to comment again because I totally realize you all are younger than me, I totally agree with you in how great a running back that Barry Sanders was but if you were in my shoes and got to see the entire NFL career of both Walter Payton and Earl Campbell they were terrors on the field. Walter was not necessarily a big man but he gave everything whenever he touched the ball. He could hurt you if you tried to tackle him alone. Earl Campbell was a man who could simply annihilate a defenseman. A lineman, a linebacker, or God help the pathetic cornerback or safety who would dare to tackle him alone head on. I would say that Jim Brown was probably like Earl more than either of the two men I mentioned. I would rather not even try to rate one over the other speaking of all four of these backs especially since I am too young to have seen Jim Brown. All were great and probably spent most of their careers on only average to marginal teams too.
