Many industries that had the machinery took part in providing war material. Underwood (another typewriter co.) and Rock-ola (they made jukeboxes), among others, manufactured M1 carbines during WWII.

Gorgeous rifle and interesting history behind it. At one point in life, I owned a smith and corona type writer

Classic! I read a book by Townsend Whelen and remember there was a picture of him carrying a sporterized 1903 in the field for hunting. I've always thought it would be fun to own one. Great vid.

Thanks I just might have to take a good look at one. I haven't tried the Hornaday loads but I have tried the Speer Gold Dot and the CorBon DPX loads. I sure wish I bought some more before all the panic buying...

Thanks Doug! Gotta love the Krag-Jorgensen rifle!! That "box" hanging off the side always makes people give it a double take. LOL I would like to get another one someday. The one I have has been cut down and sporterized.

I have loved the M1 Garand since I was young teen. I hope I never have to choose only 1 rifle, but if I should have to, then it will be the M1 Garand that my Father built for me. Price is hard to get a handle due to collectability. Thanks

The Remington and Browning hunting rifles are pretty good guns! I never used this rifle in competitions, although it shoots better than the P17 and M1 Garands that I did use. Thanks!!

I always learn stuff from you, Chuck. I've learned that some folks should not be allowed to handle tools around guns, I learned cows will eat bird feed, and now I've learned that our Revolutionary Army had a drill team! LMAO Have a great weekend Chuck!!

I'm going to have to work with you on your editing, that scared the hell out of me :) I was on a drill team at Ft. Knox and we used that rifle. Crying shame how many of those I saw sticking out of the ground when some knuckle heads missed grabbing them on a twirl :) Beautiful rifle.

Many of those old war horses still have plenty of fight left in them! That's a pretty good "triple threat" of good ole Battle Rifles right there! LOL I don't recall seeing many hippies in Mississippi back when I lived there. Ya'll must have been a close-nit bunch! hahaha

Welcome back, missed seeing you lately. I have decided to go non "military" for my defensive rifle role. Believe appearing non-treatening with a hunting type weapon may be an advantage. LOVE my military style guns, but think a well worn old Remington 740 and a pocket ful of .30-06 filled magazines gives me serious rapid firepower from a non threatening platform. Really saving hard now to add a '03 to my collection. Do you shoot yours competively?

Is that a Springfield or a Remington? Aha, it is a Smith Corona! If you have a Remington receiver then you don't have to worry about it, it is only the low serial numbered Springfield ones. I've got a beautiful Remington 1903. Just in time before they switched out the R.I. machinery and started the A3's. I really wanted a milspec and started with a Remington low serial number 1903 that was sporterized. They had cut down the barrel and put a rear sight on it so I couldn't restore it back to military configuration. So when I found my current rifle I sold the sporter and now have a great military config shooter!

They are outstanding rifles, and I couldn't be more pleased with mine. Thanks

I have a Smith Corona that I bought in August of this year for $479 sporterized but only to the extent of a Monte Carlo stock and a williams sight base on the barrel but still has the original sights still installed. So once that Williams sight base is gone she will be going back into an original USGI stock.
