Thank you Dani! I have been living in Sweden for 11 years now and given my best to raise awareness to this problem with the locals, of no avail. I keep my own forest as a sanctuary for wild animals too and hope to make at least a little change. It is devastating to have to watch vanishing the forest around me and with it the animals. I won´t give up and I am happy to see I am not alone. Thank you once more!

Thank you for leading this initiative, Dani. Your dedication to preserving Sweden's natural areas is inspiring, and I share your commitment to protecting these wild spaces for future generations. It's concerning to see limited local advocacy for sustainable practices. As newcomers to Sweden, perhaps we have a unique opportunity to help preserve this beautiful environment and prevent unsustainable, profit-driven practices from taking hold here.

I'll definitely donate later today Dani (please KEEP CROWD FUNDING everyone - it all helps to support nature & her lovely inhabitants - let's buy this land for the squirrels !). We NEED trees more than paper!! When I watched this it reminded me of that solitary Orangutan, climbing along it's felled tree (it's home) - trying to fend-off those truly awful destructive machines (it made worldwide news I seem to remember) & yes, I cried. I stopped eating products containing palm oil (at the time & for many months after) & will again, promise to avoid as much palm oil products as possible. Let's give something back to nature, before it's too late & just a distant KZbin memory ! I highly recommend watching "The Lorax" (heartwarming animation film about what could happen if people destroy all trees) a lovely family film. In fact, show this film to those tree loggers; I'm sure they will think twice!! Good Luck Dani - you really should be made an Ambassador for nature, and all the amazing things you (& your partner) have done over the years 🙂

As a Swedish citizen I can confirm that our forest industry is a sad business for nature. I believe that since the turn of century they use satellite imagery to find every small piece of old forest and offer the owners to clear cut them. There will be very few "old" more than 70 year forests left unless they are protected. I have also seen another pattern to, that trees are cut down much younger. I guess the product they want is not boards or planks but wood pulp so age doesn't matter as much anymore.
@DaniConnorWild2 ай бұрын
There was a report published two years ago that found most of the trees felled in Sweden become cardboard elsewhere in the world. Sweden is fantastic at recycling but that's an exception. It saddens me that trees are being cut for Amazon packages which will be thrown into the bin as soon as they arrive.

Most issues regarding squirrels are caused by humans, be it hunting or de-forestation. In the UK the red squirrel is loved and the grey squirrel demonised, I love both but over here the powers that be want to kill the grey to help preserve the red BUT the red squirrels no longer have any habitat left due to humans greed and de-forestation. It’s a crazy world we live in. Thank you for your kindness and willingness to help preserve what you have, once it’s gone it’s gone.
@Solstice2612 ай бұрын
@@robbillings2516 the grey squirrel is invasive and it actively leads to the red's squirrel's extinction, it's sad since we brought them here but they must be controlled or they would cause the death of all red squirrels eventually, having a lack of habitat doesn't help of course but until we get that back, and stop destroying more of it grey numbers must be extremely controlled

It is sad that humans are taking over our planet, and destroying forests, and all sorts of natural habitats. I sure wish I can donate as well. But I still support wildlife as well. These red squirrels are so beautiful, and so cute. I would hate for their homes to be destroyed. Where I live, we have squirrels like Fox Squirrels, Gray Squirrels, and of course, American Red Squirrels which are actually called pine squirrels. There are even black squirrels, and I have also seen a white squirrel known as an albino squirrel. I haven’t seen an albino squirrel in years. All in all, I sure hope the squirrel forest will be saved, and the red squirrels will be saved as well. Nature sure is beautiful. And I would hate for nature to be destroyed by humans.

All across Europe the red squirrel population is threatened by the grey squirrel, which is an invasive species. Deforestation is another serious threat to red squirrels and the myriad of lifeforms found in this habitat . We live next to a forest in Germany and I personally support red squirrels by providing feeding stations in our garden. We have mounted a camera and our family enjoys watching the visits of these delightful woodland guests. Together with our bird feeding stations, our garden is a little oasis of life in a world that increasingly underestimates the importance of a thriving ecosystem. I belong to a German wildlife protection organization and support the project to save the Squirrel Forest. For years I have been enjoying the videos of Dani Connor Wild and hope her project will be successful.

A lot of this has been happening in Norway too. I have been living in America for a while, hiking in and around Sierra Nevada. But traveling back to Norway I was almost shocked at how monotone and sterile the Northern European forests are. The have virtually all been logged and planted with trees of equal age, and there were very few animals to be seen.
@Solstice2612 ай бұрын
@@trondsi norway has a problem with sitka spruce monoculture, similar to what the north Pacific America has been dealing with cutting down old growth temperate rainforest for very productive plantations, farther north there are more natural forests but the low temperatures lead to those forests being naturally less biodiverse than a beautiful place like Sierra Nevada, the wildlife that would be there is on top of that pressured by an extremely powerful hunting lobby they are the reason for stuff like norway controlling predator populations to extremely low numbers like 50 wolves, couple hundred wolverine, currently a few linxes but they want to lower it, they also hunt a lot of herbivores, there is just way to much hunting all around in that country, it's greatly exceeded population control and went to a way of gaining land from wildlife
