Peter - nice review, I actually lived on Soi 8 at the condo right across the road Stable Lodge Hotel - you can see the condo across the road as you filmed the room. It's a FANTASTIC location with easy walk to Nana BTS, Terminal 21 and Soi Cowboy & Nana Entertainment for holiday tourist - bringing a girl after paying the bar fine is a piece of cake, easy walk. For business visitors, the easy access to Nana BTS allows quick transportation to Silom Road, Sathorn Road & Lumpini (British & Australian Embassy), Wireless Road (US, S. Africa, Swiss Embassy), Queen Sirikit Convention Center, and BITEC in Bang Na. Soi 8 is well lighted, and a safe and clean with many restaurants. Seeing the traffic NOT moving brings back many memories - with my easy walk to entertainment or Nana BTS.

Good review! I do like Soi 8. The restaurant, "Monsoon" is one of my favorite restaurants in Bangkok. At the end of August, I celebrated my birthday there. (Warning: not very cheap!). Welcome back to Thailand! I remember you smiling during your last visit; I had never seen such a smile on you before. Be well my friend!

Hotel looks great Peter ! Kind of rustic and characterful - beats drab chain hotels that all look the same. I'd be in the pool all day - looks like you can have it to yourself ! Great video, I was staying very close, surprised we didn't run into each other, ate at the det 5 restaurant, food was great, watched the arsenal vs Liverpool game there 70 baht bottled beer also helped. enjoy your trip.

Well done review and good to see the sun again with really lovely hotel considering the location and the price. You had mentioned at one point in a previous video that you might do a review of the Landmark. I would love to see that if possible as it was the first hotel experience I had in Bangkok back in 1988 having just opened. Hoping all remains well!

Thailand must make good mattresses. Years ago I stayed at the Bangkok Patio near Sanam Pau BTS station and it was the best mattress I'd ever slept on too.

Hi Peter, i normally listen to you on my phone, nice to see the video, I will give you a few tips I know you were in Bangkok for many years though, No Idea pub run by a Welsh guy soi 22 Sukumvit, for Esan food go to Esan Nation restaurant its almost opposite soi23 on the otherside of Sukumvit road, you will not be disappointed , get the ferry across the river and go go to Bang Nam Phueng floating market, hire a bicycle, yes, you will think you are in Nakhon Si Thammarat or Esan, its very rural and not much traffic

Pre-covid I stayed at the Stable Inn on soi 8 a couple of times. (Previously, I had used the Ambassador on soi 11 but once the Indian coach Tourists began using that place any semblance of a restful stay was lost at any or all hours.) Stable Inn, in itself, was a decent enough place to stay & I found the restaurant okay too. A couple of down sides with the place was the elevator which often seemed out of use and the balcony/room should the adjoining one have a smoker there. The soi itself is without any footpaths so caution is needed, especially at night due to lack of light, when vehicle drivers seem oblivious to any pedestrians. Since Nov. 2019 there seems to have been much changed in that soi and I look forward to visiting again the December....hopefully.

I always stay in soi 8 nowadays when in Bangkok usually the Citadenes further down. Have stayed at the Promenade opposite Det5 as well, nice but dated. The Hopeland is nice but they suffered for the last couple of years as they seemed to cater for the Chinese Market rather than Westerners. Det5 does a great breakfast and dining outdoors is great in their garden. Although food might be pricier at Monsoon, 99 baht pints all day to 7pm softens the blow 555

Last month I stayed 3 nights at Hopeland Hotel on Soi 8. first part of the Soi is very busy but then it quiets down. I didn't eat at Det 5 but tried most of the other restaurants. Water was 60 baht at most places, 280 baht starting price on most anything to eat. For a few days it was fine but for more long term my opinion is most of it is overpriced.

I stayed at Stable Lodge, Great room and awsome location. The swiming pool proberly not good. But overall great place to stay. One night i was having a beer at the hotel bar, and one drunk british guy keep telling me " Go home ". He was very drunk and start making everyone uncomfortable. He keep saying to me "Go home, its better you go home". Everyone left including me and Hotel staff couldent do anything. Overall great hotel and friendly staff.

of course it is but i would ask the girls, let them know what you want, and they will know which girls will be the best choices for this, as not all girls will want to go, also most hotels will charge extra for a 3rd person or more staying in the room, enjoy

It's not mandatory but they'll pretty much look down on you as a cheap Charlie if you leave nothing and you'll get virtually no service the next time you visit. These people earn very low salaries and receiving tips is a big part of their income. I would definitely leave something when I go to any entertainment venue or restaurant

Well, I have to say, we stayed there about 10 years back…..plus points, nice pool, nice staff, nice vibe……BUT!…..the rooms very grotty and I got absolutely horrendous food poisoning from their poolside buffet!!…….hope it’s improved……I can highly recommend the Grand Business Inn 100 yards away in Soi 11……stayed many many times, great!…….but no pool

Forget boring fried rice & chicken. Sea Bass, Sweet Chilli sauce & rice is #1 meal in Det 5. Had that 100 times in 3 years
