Guy’s whole thing in the Alpha games was trying to stop Rose from throwing herself into battle. The difference is that in the Alpha games, Rose and Bison’s life forces were linked, so by killing Bison, Rose would be unknowingly killing herself in the process. This doesn’t really work in 4 though, because Rose and Seth aren’t linked at all.

The Story with Guy is that Rose had foreseen that Ryu would be the only one who could defeat Bison for good, but was not yet and shouldn't face the dictator now. So she wanted to Fight Bison herself to stall his plans. Even if it means sacrifying herself. This is why Guy is trying to stop her.

Same here. It was my first experience with SF as well. Having moves mapped on the touch screen really made the game user-friendly for me. My only regret was that I never committed to maining and mastering combos and like I did when I got invested in MK9.

Ultra Street Fighter IV was the first Street Fighter that I got into and made me a Street Fighter fan. Even with Super Turbo, Alpha 2, Third Strike, and Street Fighter 6, I still go back to IV a lot so it means a lot to me, as a fighting game fan.

What is your favorite thing about this character? One thing I love about this version of Guy? He has the Bushin symbol on his chest. It doesn't appear in any 2D fighter. It gives that "clan" element with the insignia, similar to Hiryu

Street Fighter V had every bosses at the end of the day (with the Boss DLC season), but the main antagonist was indeed Bison since it was the conclusion of the Shadaloo saga. Necali was also positioned as a boss of some sort (even having the marking on his body form a "V") before turning out to be a massive pile of disappointment and wasted potential. Because the story of SF5 was the Story of SF5.

GREAT video! I loved this game, but yes, I prefer the anime-sprites. QUESTION; Matt, how do you feel about Shujinko? I hated him when I first played Deception, but he slowly grew on me....since I got better at MK and started to play as Shang Tsung were I can just morph into anyone lol, then I realized we REALLY dropped the ball on Shujinko, he could be a GREAT character if he had a little bit of restructuring.

Yeah, it's definitely a good idea to cap this game (and most fighting games on PC honestly) at 60 FPS to avoid weird shit like that happening, I know the temptation to leave it running uncapped is too strong, but most fighting games logic and physics are tied to the framerate.

Oh man, Guy in IV...don't get me wrong, he's probably the best he's ever been in S/USF4, but my god, they made him SO cringe. In Alpha 2/3, probably just because they couldn't have that much dialogue or cutscenes, he's maybe a little dorky, but he keeps his cool and comes off as more composed, a man of few words. I love his interaction with Sodom in Alpha 2 where Sodom talks a bunch of smack, only for Guy to say "You are so outclassed". Short and to the point. In IV, though his dialogue is so "chuni" (that is the shorthand, right? Literally had to google this). Not just the "PROFOUND SADNESS" thing (seriously, what is that) but all sorts of lofty jabbering about god knows what. That stupid line in his ending, "I'll use my ninja blades to make short work of you and your vehicle" never fails to make me facepalm. His "vehicle", Guy?! Good grief. No one is outclassed by this dork. JFC

This is the best fighting game ever made in my opinion. I bought all editions since the vanilla on PS3. I play and like a lot of fighting games since the 90's but SF IV is the best for me. The first real fighting game i remember playing was boxe for Atari but i don't really know if that counts. If not, then it was probably Fatal Fury for Genesis.

Yes, Guy's Ultra glitch is caused by the framerate setting. Back on topic, Street Fighter 4 is still the best SF game. It's common "opinion" nowadays that Third Strike is the greatest, but it's only because of the immense popularity of SFIV back then. People were a bit sick of it, so hating SFIV became kind of a cool thing. Community were looking for anything to dethrone it and they got hung on the niche fighter that was the 3rd Strike. And make no mistake: 3rd Strike was and still is a niche fighter. Although pro players would claim otherwise, remember that they are far to few to speak for everyone. In fact, the entire SF3 series was quite unpopular. High point of it was infamous Daigo parry, and even that was an obscure event until the rise of SFIV which also rekindled interest in previous games in the series. Ultra SFIV is most likely the very pinnacle of fighting game genre. Street Fighter V was a mess. Going down the path of endless DLC and microtransactions (so-called "seasons"), the game was unable to take off. Even the very core of it wasn't all that good. Mechanics were dumbed down in order to increase accessibility (thus draw in fresh wallets in the aforementioned microtransaction mix), but they only succeeded in making for boring by-the-numbers matches. As for SF6, that game doesn't seem to appeal to anyone. Continuing where SFV ended regarding DLC and disgusting microtransactions, the game is very woke with some embarrassing presentation. All of its core gameplay design is focused on balance and shit, created with pro players for pro players while casuals, which make for 95% of consumers, are basically ignored. Fun factor is non-existent. You want the ultimate fighting game? USF4 is the choice for you.

I don’t hate on SF4 to be that guy, but I just didn’t enjoy it. I had anticipated the release and went to get it day one with my friend. The super/ultra combos were cool. The diner stage music was beautiful. I just couldn’t get down with how stiff the gameplay felt. I tried multiple times through out its life span to get into it. It was a let down. So much so, I put down Street Fighter indefinitely until SFV Champion Edition. SF6 is a bit more fast paced. I enjoy both those entries more. Too each their own. I’m happy what it did for the genre though.
