In the next playthrough (not the one after you get the ending, but the one after that), the bucket returns, and upon picking it up, the narrator says "and try not to lose this one too, you dolt."

After you get this ending the bucket shows up in a crashed escape pod in the epilogue, you can pick it up for the rest of the epilogue

its kinda nice to see Stanley effectively 'setting free' his only friend in some cases. like sure, Stanley cant escape without The Narrator, and it seems Stanley knows this, but at least the bucket can leave. its hurts to let his friend go, Stanley reaching out at the last moment to either say his final goodbye, but he would rather let the bucket escape than be trapped in the office like he is, and thats kinda sweet ... until he gets a replacement bucket lol

If you put the bucket in the escape pod then do the Epilogue, you can find the bucket in the escape pod near the destroyed Memory Zone. If you take the bucket into the Memory Zone, something special happens...

@@polinn5510 In the Main Menu once you've gone through all of the Setting Person's (canon name) dialog an Epilogue option should appear under Start

@Stuffy Oh I'm accidentally remembering things that didn't happen lol. Yeah I thought there was new dialogue for "The Settings Person" if you take the bucket but apparently I'm mistaken. Sorry for the inconvenience!
