This is all based on my memory. The first time I watched this video several days ago, it took me five seconds after reaching the "I'm doney with the funny!" part for me to actually say it. So for this question we will need to take the knowledge that we know about different muscle fiber types and apply them to answer question. A very practical question for muscle fiber types. So the question goes as follows. So we are told or we are told to think that endurance sports. Okay so let's just write endurance E. N. D. For endurance. These require higher concentration of slow twitch. Slow twitch is going to be the type for this particular uh endeavor. So we're told for endurance we need more of the slow twitch muscle fiber types. And then we were talking about power sports. They'll do in red kind of power color. I don't know why it's what I associated. We need a higher amount of fast twitch and I'm just doing a little brackets here around the muscle fiber types because they represent in chemistry concentration. So higher amounts. Right? So you're here are two different types of muscle fibers. And here we have one type of sport, endurance and power. So why is this the case? Why would for endurance we would need more slow twitch muscle fiber types. So for an endurance sports let's talk about um distance running. Call it D. R. Always to us again because endurance is sort of subjective but there's some things which we can easily categorize being more endurance. So distance running you can say things such as uh if you do a longer swim that's definitely going more into the endurance sort of realm and then power. We're going to think about things that are shorter times of really testing your physical output. So we could think of things such as a shot put. I'll do shot P. For shot put, sprinting just we're thinking about the amount of time, all these things less than 15 seconds, less than 20 seconds. Certainly sprinting. And we'll say weightlifting, it's another one very short windows of time that we would need to be able to tax these muscle fibers for the fast twitch. So what characteristics of both of these muscle fiber types makes them appropriate for each respective some category of sports. Right, so let's talk about endurance are the slow twitch muscle fiber types of losing blue and write some some characteristics of those and see how they are applicable. So let's do s. T. For slow twitch. So first of all these are going to be narrow in respect to the fast twitch, but they have many capillaries. This is really essential. We'll get into that briefly. And then we also have the existence of myoglobin which is analogous to hemoglobin and blood. Any time you see globe and should think about transporting carrying oxygen because essentially what this is, it allows it to carry oxygen. And the thing about capillaries which makes it very important is allows ox it blood too readily travel to the muscle fibers. Not only is it blood but oxygenated blood. P. Which is the primary uh molecule that our body uses to generate energy for different cellular uh processes. So anyway here we're going to use aerobic respiration, right? This is going to be the primary and uh way of producing ATP and gathering it for cellular processes in the slow twitch muscle fibers and aerobic respiration as aerobic. This is saying related to oxygen. So this is implying that we need oxygen. Which is perfect because these small twitch muscle fibers are set up to use oxygen to its best output. Anaerobic respiration is going to be private preliminarily or primarily uh two minutes plus two hours. We can get in a bit of an inner immediate energy system which you don't need to talk about but two minutes plus. And I'm doing ours here in parentheses to so that show that it can be continuous. This is when we primarily uses energy system of aerobic respiration because it yields a lot of ATP but it takes a bit longer to undergo. So it makes more sense to carry it along in this function, although it uses less than another. Energy is essential. Talk about here. So the main key is that structurally the slow twitch muscle fiber is set up with the capillaries, specifically the myoglobin to get lots of oxygenated blood in order to fuel aerobic respiration which is something our body uses to keep on producing a T. P. For a long duration of time. Examples given these endurance sports such as distance running and swimming over ah maybe not a short swim but more like a longer sort of about and again we can also talk a little bit about uh the long duration of a twitch itself. So when the muscle twitches, when it contracts, that's more time with the twitch uh This is not so much a structure but function that is also relevant can be up to 100 milliseconds long so we can get a lot more out of, that's not as far as force production but as far as duration of contraction, right 100 milliseconds. And I'll just leave it as millie, 100 milliseconds. So conversely let's talk i dont know if you are reading this, if you are reading this then go outside and touch grass about the fast twitch muscle fibers which I'll call ft for fast twitch. These are going to be much more wide, the ends they appear more white in appearance whereas the slow twitch, I didn't write it up here but because of the blood that can flow through in the myoglobin which is pigmented, it has more of a red appearance. So it's actually kind of funny that I chose blue for the one that appears red. So either way it's more of a white appearance because I'll say there's a low concentration of myoglobin and capillaries in comparison. So already we're starting to see why it would not really use aerobic respiration because it doesn't have the means to do so. So it's forced to use something we call the ATP PCR system which generates energy and a lot higher of a quantity quicker. But you have to run out and then replenish uh deposit related ADP which we don't need to get into right now. Either way, this gives a greater force output in a shorter duration, but it's perfect for these power sports. And in addition to that, the twitches themselves, their duration is much shorter, only around 7.5 milliseconds. So literally 7% the length of the slow twitch muscle fibers. So this is why it's more appropriate to if you want a lot of these. Or sorry, if you have a lot of this fast twitch muscle fibers, then you're perfect. Your constitution is perfect for more of the power output to that system. And if it's the other way around even a lot more the slow twitch muscle fibers than your constitution. Your structures of your muscle fibers are more adapted for the endurance type.
