Brings tears to my eyes. Every American should be taught about the battle for Baltimore, shortly after Washington D.C. had fallen and the White House was burned to ashes the brave self sacrificing men of Fort McHenry held off the British fleet saving Baltimore. The story behind our anthem is truly moving. When we sing "brought proof through the night the are flag was still there" It is meant quite literally. . God has truly blessed and protected America

Evidently, this was shown in cinemas during the sequence of newsreels, cartoons, and advertisements before the movie played. I'm thinking that in 1942, every person would have stood up for the playing of the song. And I have to wonder, how many would stand up and sing if it were played in a movie theater today?

All the division in this nation I loved, all the lies, all the morally poor. Makes my heart ache for what we have lost. On the Kentucky state flag here in my home state. It reads, "United We Stand, Divided We Fall" , and we are greatly divided. The day of settlement is coming. Not in a biblical sense, but in the crumbling of a civilization sense. I see now why the last true Capitalist, set our economy as a corner stone for the world. It was to help the true patriots when the socialist came.

The United States has always been divided. There have been very few cases where the US hasn't been. Even during the American Revolution, only 1/3 of Americans agreed with the cause. The division has just widened.

@@Siad747 13 years ago I posted that; I know now on average most people never could see the forest, because of all the trees in the way. Most live like mice in maze just looking for cheese, with no clue at all about the bigger picture. Yes we have always been divided; I work security in a hospital now, and I see people all the time with little if any empathy for suffering people. I once had to stay in the room all night with a mentally handicapped man; his caretaker had left him alone at the hospital, if we can't attend to basic responsibilities how can we expect anyone to be responsible for greater civic concerns?

That rendation down here in Australia meant a lot to us all. The year 1942, The Forces of evil The Imperial Empire of Japan was on its way. They were stopped cold at Quadacanal and New Guinea by a combined effort of yanks and aussies. Battles fought in & over jungles swamps in heat and slim, that flag flew high a rally point for the people of the free world. To turn back the losses at Manilla & Fortress Singapore, on the road to Tokyo, finally taking the surrender in 1945 aboard the mighty MO.

O! say can you see by the dawn's early light, What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming, Whose broad stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight, O'er the ramparts we watch'd, were so gallantly streaming? And the Rockets' red glare, the Bombs bursting in air, Gave proof through the night that our Flag was still there; O! say does that star-spangled Banner yet wave, O'er the Land of the free and the home of the brave? On the shore dimly seen through the mists of the deep, Where the foe's haughty host in dread silence reposes, What is that which the breeze, o'er the towering steep, As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses? Now it catches the gleam of the morning's first beam, In full glory reflected now shines on the stream, 'Tis the star-spangled banner, O! long may it wave O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave. And where is that band who so vauntingly swore That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion, A home and a country should leave us no more? Their blood has washed out their foul footsteps' pollution. No refuge could save the hireling and slave, From the terror of flight, or the gloom of the grave, And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave, O'er the Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave. O! thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand, Between their lov'd home and the war's desolation, Blest with vict'ry and peace, may the Heav'n rescued land, Praise the Power that hath made and preserv'd us a nation! Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just, And this be our motto-"In God is our Trust;" And the star-spangled Banner in triumph shall wave, O'er the Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave.

@longfootbuddy : It's called peace. If one person wants something that coincides with what another, then conflict can arise. So, you limit yourself as a good person to avoid such a thing, but then that also means you limit what others can do; that's what laws are. That's our limited freedom, it gives us coexistence with each other.
