We have been HEAVY into Star Wars Jedi Survivor and I have been loving every bit of it. But yesterday I dived a bit into my nerdy Star Wars side and talked about Star Wars The Old Republic so today I had to fully dive into it

For clarification, The whole faction with the Twins, the dad, the sister, etc. are neither on the Jedi or the Sith's side. They are not all Sith in nature, but they are their own faction called the Eternal Empire which is why you see them attacking both the Republic and the Empire in the trailer and why they use yellow lightsabers instead of red or blue lightsabers. The Disney retcon for crystals is instead of having all these different crystals with different effects, now there's only one type and the color depends on the energy you pour into it. For instance dark siders fill the crystal with rage and hate to make it "bleed" red. As opposed to my personal favorite dark side crystal the extremely rare Qixoni, created when a sun went supernova and destroyed a nearby civilization. Every swing of the blade echos the screams of the race in their final moments before extinction.

The old republic hits different. To this day that era is my all time favorite time period of star wars. There are so many fascinating stories and characters that I could spend hours reading up on. And the cinematics are pure art. The amount of effort, passion, time, and funding that went into them are insane! Disney is beyond stupid for not wanting to make anything with the old republic. Then again, they'd probably ruin it, so it's for the best

To answer your lightsaber color question: Disney retconned it so that the crystals don't come with a color. The color comes from your relationship with the force. Also the twins weren't Sith. They didn't adhere to the light or dark side of the force. Their father, Valkorion, was actually one of the bodies of the Sith Emperor but that's going down a whole other rabbit hole.

@@bigred212 yeah the old colors were arbitrary and didn't mean anything. Now green usually indicates someone who takes the approach of a consular and blue indicates a guardian. You have characters like Kit Fisto who more closely align with a guardian but have a green lightsaber, same thing with Luke.

Things like the Darksaber wouldn't inherently indicate your force alignment just that you had picked the appropriate crystal, which in itself was part of the journey of constructing ones saber.

Your attunement to the force chooses your crystal color, but the crystal still goes in the saber. You bleed your crystal with your trauma and pain to make it red the hard way. Later on, the empire synthesizes the red crystals for mass production for inquisitors so no one has a real saber except for Luke with Anakin's saber as well as Kal Kestis and Galen Merrick. Quick edit: The list of people with real lightsabers I put was pointing out Jedi with sabers but including Sith, Vader, and Kylo have crystals that they bled and not mass-produced ones.

SWTOR was my first MMORPG and I was following the game a bit before I had a pc or laptop to play on it. And bruh one of the main selling points for me was the option to play as a Sith, but be a GOOD GUY. What always grabbed my interest with these cinematics is during every dual every swing from both fighters looks like a killing blow. A lot of the time in the movies it’s clear they are swinging for the blade not the person but seeing an opening in their movements and then watching their opponent attack that weakness is spectacular.

Kyber crystals are still the source of color, they just changed how that occurs. Also the Infinite Empire (the twins and Valkorian) was trying to destroy both the Jedi and Sith orders to replace them with Valkorian's order. Valkorian was also Darth Vitiate, the Emperor of The Sith Empire.

9:48 No, the force does not choose the color, but the force calls the jedi to the crystal which matches the jedi, basically providing the color if im not wrong. Edit: Disney did messup the lightsabers though, as the jedi and i also belive the sith rules said to cherish and respect the lightsaber, while Luke just through it off a cliff just because he is no longer a jedi, while many (like Cere from the Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order game) still kept it.

Played SWTOR for a good while before the twins expansion when it had a good population...was a really fun game. Not sure what it looks like now but I heard they made it easier to play singleplayer to catchup to the end game. One thing I'll say is that the devs or atleast the cinematic creators really got Star Wars and how it should feel...too bad Disney couldn't learn the same lesson or get those people on board. I would have preferred ANY of those cinematics to get a feature length movie over what we got with the sequels.

When you were talking about how extreme the Jedi were I think that’s the whole point of episodes 1-3 Qui Gon sees that the order is failing and how the current council are losing their connection to the force because they were so extreme and fell of the path of what Jedi were supposed to be. This is why he wants to raise anakin the right way since he was supposed to balance out the force( he does this by destroying the Jedi then sith before episodes 7-9) but if Qui Gon was still alive maybe anakin would’ve brought balance a better way

He was wrong about a bunch of things though. The Jedi didn't abduct kids. The rumor that the Jedi did steal children was mostly popularized by Palpatine and his propaganda. Similarly, you can voluntarily choose to leave the Jedi Order whenever you want. The only thing "extreme" about the Jedi Order was their doctrine emphasizing the suppression of emotion. But there's no actual enforcement of that rule? Just a warped idea of what an "ideal jedi" was. Look at Anakin. Dude was far from the council's idea of an ideal jedi way before he seriously started slipping into the Dark Side, but the dude basically only got a slap on the wrist and some reprimands whenever he was "too emotional".

Saying that the Sith get their power from negativity is not entirely correct. Their power comes from passion, which can theoretically be any emotion positive or negative. It's just that fear, rage and hate (the natural pathways to the dark side) are the easiest emotions to channel and sustain. Theoretically, love could be used the same way, though in case of the Sith Empire having a loved one was always a risk because it made for an easy target. The Jedi on the contrary get their power from forsaking worldly attachements and dedicating themselves to peace and the force itself.

They still have crystals, but they are now connected directly to the force. but they don’t have a pre-established color. They start off colorless, and gains a color based on your attunement in the force. With the sith, they have to take a Jedi’s crystal, and overwhelm it with negative emotions and feelings. So they have to break the will of the crystal, which turns them red.

SWTOR is not dead, is it huge? no. but it is far from dead. If it were dead. EA would not still be supporting it. SWTOR was the first MMO to highly feature its story. yes Final Fantasy XXIV is known for that as well now days, but Bioware was the first, and frankly. To me Even FF XXIV still doesn't come close to the writing that goes in SWTOR. Final Fantasy is great, but some of the class stories and later on the expansions of SWTOR are absolutely breath taking. The twins are not on the side of the Empire, they are on the side of the The Eternal Empire, not the Sith Empire. When you start this expansion, The Eternal Empire rules the galaxy, and you see why through this Cinematic. As for lightsaber Crystals. In disney canon, they still use crystals, but instead of Adegan Crystals or other various ones. they use "Kyber" crystals, and yes through the Force the Jedi get their lightsaber colors. Blue for those that attuned through the Force by more means of the physical. Jedi Knights. Where green is for those that are strong in the Force, and seek to understand it and wield it over their Lightsaber skills. Jedi Cousulars. Yellow for the Jedi were Sentinels. Jedi that could wield the Force, and fight, but also did not neglect other skills necessary to survive throughout the Galaxy. Jedi Sentinels. Red Crystals in disney canon is where a Sith takes Jedi's crystal, and pours his hate, fear, malice and loathing into the crystal dominating it till it "Bleeds." White Crystals like those of Ahsoka Tano's are when a Jedi take the bleed Crystals of dark siders, and cleanses them. Mace Windu's Purple, in storywise, is a color that represents his balance in the Force. He is of the light, but understands that there is darkness within him, and he keeps it in control. He walks the middle path that most Jedi can't and would fall to the dark side from. Real World wise, Mace's color comes because Actor Samuel Jackson, asked George if he could have a Purple blade, and then George gave in and said yeah ok. Sam Jackson wanted it so that he didn't just blend in in the background of the scenes. In The Phantom Menace, Mace's saber was blue, but once he perfected his lightsaber combat form of Vaapad, he created a new lightsaber to reflect where he was now, and it became a Purple blade.

The Jedi do NOT abduct kids. They get permission from their loved ones, and to most families around the galaxy it is a great honor to have a child inducted into the Order. Because not only will they be given all they are needed to live, they are being trained to be protectors of the Republic, and will have the best education. Many more times than not, a life of a Jedi is better than the life the parents could of every hoped to of provided. The jedi make great cases when they do speak with the parents, but if the parents are adamant about keeping their kid. The Jedi will not push matter. Except in my head canon for fringe cases where a child might be extremely powerful in the force and already showing signs of it at a young age. Without training and discipline the child could fall the dark side on their own and become a problem later on that the Jedi would end up having to take care of, but their are no actual cases of this in lore.

6:49 about the betraying, this is actually a rule for the sith that was implemented by Darth Bane. He was basically the MLK for the sith. he realised that the main problem for the sith was that if there were too many at once, all the weaker ones would gang up on the strong to take their place. So he made the rule of 2 later on, which says that there can only ever be 2 sith, a master and an apprentice to surpass him. This insured that the suth would only get continually stronger, quality over quantity.

NGL, Rule of 2 is incredibly stupid from a logical standpoint. Firstly, the Rule of Two puts all of the Sith's eggs in one basket. By limiting the number of Sith Lords to two, the Sith are extremely vulnerable to external threats. If the master and apprentice are both killed, then the Sith Order would be completely destroyed, leaving the galaxy without any Sith presence. It takes the Sith 1000+ Years to get a mild win with Bane's Method and it takes all of 2 decades for it to all fall apart again because of the very fragile nature of only having 2 Sith. Secondly, the Rule of Two creates an unstable power dynamic within the Sith Order. The apprentice is always seeking to overthrow the master and become the new Sith Lord, which leads to infighting and disunity within the Order. This constant struggle for power weakens the Sith and makes it difficult for them to achieve their goals. Thirdly, the Rule of Two limits the Sith's ability to spread their influence throughout the galaxy. With only two Sith Lords, the Sith cannot be in multiple places at once, making it difficult for them to control large portions of the galaxy. This limitation makes it difficult for the Sith to achieve their ultimate goal of dominating the galaxy and establishing a Sith Empire. Finally, the Rule of Two goes against the very nature of the Sith. The Sith believe in the pursuit of power and the acquisition of knowledge through any means necessary, including betrayal and murder. The Rule of Two limits the number of Sith Lords who can engage in these activities, which goes against the fundamental beliefs of the Sith. Sith are in a lot of ways Darwinist and this goes very much against that by limiting internal pressures for Sith to excel.

@@Awesomeisme7000 A lot of your points make sense and I think what would've made it better is if there were Sith but without the official title like how it was in the prequels. These dark siders could all be fighting for the recognition to be sith and they could all take their shot at killing the Sith apprentice to take their place. The apprentice proves his worth by taking the master's teachings and dominating the pretenders. Then by subduing them the sith apprentice could establish an overlord/love-hate relationship with the sith wannabes and use them to commit evil in the galaxy without exposing themselves but killing them if they ever pose a risk to his status as apprentice. The master could be a figure in the shadows that takes a spiritual tax on all dark side users. If you're using the dark side and he can feel your presence/your desire to be under his wing, his presence in the force means you have to give some of your force power to him or you have to give up your desire to be sith (and be hunted because you are now a threat to the Sith order). Then the master could take this accumulative power from his followers and do some REALLY heinous crap and ensures he's a super threat. But basically my sith are a bunch of evil hyenas like the lion king.

No, the main reason was because too many Sith always led to infighting. The Sith have admitted multiple times that if they could stop fighting themselves for power, they'd have destroyed the Jedi and Republic long ago. However, sith by nature are too greedy for power and will always prioritize fighting themselves over Jedi. You can see in this game that in the sith warrior and Inquisitor storyline you spend 80% of it fighting the empire.

And also, calling Palpatine taking over the galaxy and destroying most of the Jedi Order is not what I’d call “a mild win”. Plus, the only reason it was lost is that he broke the Rule of Two, by not wanting to die. 2. Hence my earlier point. The purpose of TROT is that the master teaches the apprentice his ways so the apprentice can prove himself worthy of continuing the bloodline by killing his master. It is not infighting, it is purpose. And the Sith were infighting constantly when they were many. 3. I’ll just remind you of Palpatine and stop there. 4. They still go by this. TROT is still about attaining power and knowledge, just slowly and carefully so the Jedi don’t notice. Every Sith who has come after Bane was stronger than the previous.

It still has crystals. For a sith to turn their lightsaber red they have to make the crystal bleed. And when Ashoka got a white lightsaber color, she healed the crystal. Basically the crystal is treated as a living organism. (I know too much about this franchise)

I played ToR at launch and was really into it for the first few months it came out. The game felt a lot like a typical Bioware story but it had a unique story questline that each faction/class were able to partake in complete with AI companions that could accompany you on missions as a sort of pet to help you out. The story was related to the KOTOR series which I loved back in the day. They came out with DLC for The old republic not too long ago IIRC.

I play this game semi-frequently. Still love it even though I've finished all the class stories and expansions so far. It has a ton of story content and I think it is good. There are still at least 1000 committed players, but yeah it doesn't get a ton of new players anymore.

This game is far from dead. You can play pretty much any content without having to wait for a long time. One of the reasons the game feels a bit "empty" is because there are like 25 planets and then each planets has 2-3 instances. And then those numbers are obviously split up again as there are multiple servers. So if we do the numbers, 5 servers, 25 planets (technically there are even more "places" to be but lets stick to the planets) an then each planet has 2 to 3 instances, that gives us a total of 250 to 375 different "places" a player could potentially be. So if there are 50k players online you'd only see about 130-200 players at any given time. In reality, these numbers are split up even more as people can also be on their ships, in story chapters, in story specific locations, flashpoints, warzones, starfighter battles, operations etc.

I disagree entirely, there are still very very active server in SWTOR. Specifically Satele Shan & Darth Malgus. Sure it’s outdated now, and the subscription model kinda blows. But the class stories are some of the best Star Wars stories out there.

Truly what I call modern art. This was the most legendary performance by any piece of chip I have ever watched. The acting was top tier and very life changing.
