The summer of 77, I worked at a summer camp just on the north end of the Everglades in Florida. There was only one dim street light at the camp and no other lights for about 30 miles in any direction. The night sky was amazing. Looking at the night sky with the thousands of stars, it felt more like I was floating in space and Earth just happened to be close to my feet. I’ll never forget that feeling.

As someone who lives in New Zealand, the stars here are truly beautiful. You feel like you’re on a small boat in a ocean of constellations.

There's quite a few places back in Texas where it was absolutely beautiful and practically pitch black at night so we usually got quite the nightlight show

It is a true shame that most of the stars are blocked out by the light pollution of our cities and towns. That’s why a trip out of the city every so often makes you enjoy outer space and the night sky a lot more

This man is so deep and peaceful when he talks, this man is the reason I want to learn more about space.

I went camping at one of the only no-light-pollution areas in the east coast and it was just spectacular. I thought I saw dark skies, but this was a whole different level of dark. I really can't explain it

I'm a 25 yr old dude from India. When I was a kid I used to be able to see around a couple hundred stars but not even one these days anymore. There's so darn much light around me that I only turn on my room light when I'm about to have dinner, I could even read with the light that comes from the roads. Looking at the night sky in videos always make me tear up a lil in fascination and other unexplainable emotions. It always makes me realize how useless man made things like religion and spirituality are.

The sky is incredible (away from city lights) when there are no bugs out and you are able to lay down on your back to look up. That is therapy. Just you and the sky.

I once went to a desert in Jordan, and god damn I never knew you could ever see that many small beautiful dots in the sky. My family members and I just layed on the sand and looked at the stars in silence, and the pictures he showed still had more stars than i saw there

I’m from Wales in the UK and just recently last month Ynys Enlli has just been designated as a Dark Sky Sanctuary. I feel soo lucky that a place so close to my home has been added to the list of internationally recognised places with virtually zero light pollution.

as a kid we were able to see the sky full of starts and at those times there was barely any light pollution. whenever the power used to go out it looked so beautiful. glad to experience those moments.

I went out do a dark sky area once when I was younger, and since it was the middle of the night i was half asleep, but when i saw the night sky it was just breathtaking, unlike any experience I had ever had before, i couldnt sleep the whole stop back because I was just thinking about the spectacle. It's somehow so indescribably beautiful that a picture of it just looks like a child's drawing compared to the true unending beauty that it is to look up at the night sky in a dark sky area.

I’ve seen one 2 years ago. All the stars you can imagine were there. It was filling up the night sky. It helped me make my stress go away and i was only 8 at that time

I’ve been backpacking for over a decade now and every night I’m out in the wilderness I make a point of setting an alarm to wake up in the middle of the night to go look at the sky. It still amazes me every time. Especially when camped at an alpine lake that mirrors the stars. It truly makes you feel just how broad and vast the universe that were a part of is, and those areas are a 2.5 at best on the Bortle dark sky scale. Seeing the stars in an area that’s a 1 has been on my bucket list for decades
