I watched it. I know we all have a tendency to go into movies like this thinking, "it can never beat the original", but I went into it with an open mind, and very little expectations. I can honestly say they did it justice 1000%. The liberties they took with some new songs, scenes, and characters all worked very well. The number Jasmine sings twice throughout was beautiful. Very solid film, and it really captured the magic I felt when I saw the original in theaters. Hats off to them! I want to see it again.

I knew Naomi was going to be perfect for Jasmine as soon as I saw her in Power Rangers, but man she is surpassing my wildest hopes for the character. She's beyond perfect for that role, and she's also such a lovely human being in all these interviews and whatnot. Mena seems beyond perfect for Aladdin as well. I was VERY skeptical about this movie, but I've been totally won over by all the latest previews and interviews. I'm now super excited and really hoping Disney doesn't let us down.

They hire white British people to play Americans and vice versa, they hire Mexican people to play South American drug cartels, etc, etc. In Braveheart, William Wallace , a famous Scottish hero was played by an American. There could have been outrage about that when there are plenty of great Scottish actors out there. The same thing happened with Outlaw King, when legendary Scottish king Robert The Bruce was played by an American actor instead of a Scottish one. They also cast black people as characters that are supposed to be white (Annie and Warbucks in Annie, Meg in A Wrinkle In TIme, etc). Why is it so important to be so specific in this particular case? Not to mention, the previews for Aladdin make it OBVIOUS that they are going for more of an Indian/Persian type of fictional country for this movie, complete with Bollywood style costumes, choreography, visual design, and cinematography. So it makes total sense to cast Naomi Scott as Jasmine. She fits perfectly within that FICTIONAL country.
