I so enjoy your weekly check-ins, Jen and it’s lovely to catch a glimpse of your beautiful part of the world. If you are ever able to record yourself knitting I would love to see it - you must be so fast to produce such beautiful work so quickly!

Bravo on your gnome! He is smashing! 😊 I can hear a fur baby scratching away about 5 and a half minutes in! Soooo cute. OMGosh! That stitch marker on your warm up sweater is so sweet! Fat squirrel fibers... I will have to look that up! Love those bags! I almost finished my Advent socks! I went on a different path. I don't crochet (or haven't in at least 30 years) BUT I saw this blanket that I just fell in love with. What can you do... make what makes you happy. I have done four squares this week. It is called Nature's Walk and is a free pattern. There are bonus squares that you have to pay for in a separate pattern. Needless to say... it is throwing off my year of 12. But back on track this weekend!

The Kitchener stitch was named after Herbert Kitchener, famous for Britain's colonial victories in the Sudan and South Africa. Aspects around Kitchener’s involvement with his ‘stitch’ remain uncertain. Some claim that Kitchener himself helped to design a sock pattern that included a new seamless method of grafting the toe, however, others say that Kitchener’s actual involvement is rooted more in lore than fact. Kitchener is blamed for the darker aspects of the British victories in Africa, including the use of scorched earth tactics and concentration camps against Boer women and children. Because of this, many folks in the crafting world now prefer to use the term "grafting".

How have I not heard about this before?! I’m actually a tad embarrassed 😳 Thank you! This is why I love the comment section. I hope Kitchener Ontario wasn’t named after him too!

@@Thestashdowndiaries Don't be embarrassed..I just recently learn this myself. I make a conscious effort these days to say "grafting" and not the K word. And yes, sadly, EVERYTHING "Kitchener" in Canada and throughout the Commonwealth is named after Herbert.
