43:00 - Jason is right. Developers don't care, because they make WAY more money from the average soloq player than all eposrts and orgs combined.

I think that’s not entirely true, but the financial benefit of esports is indirect. The existence of esports provides an aspirational element to players playing game, thereby allowing greater growth of the player base. No matter what people say about how casual an esports games player base is, even the most casual of players know about the most famous pros in a game like CS. So even if it doesn’t directly earn the devs money, esports definitely contributes to their game’s growth.

The prize pool going to players never made sense to me from a football perspective where the revenue goes to the club and then the players negotiate contracts to get bonus based on performance in cups/leagues. Think a way to make it worth it for teams would be to make games behind a sub wall for hot games and low games are free to view then that gets split between org and tournament host

in DotA 2 there were player item sets, and team items, at least when I played a lot early during the Source version before the engine change. I know that the gambling aspect is more important for CS, but having more slots than *just* stickers to support a team could be a good option, so charms, or operator patches or something could help.

Bo5 finals would be better now. I think way more important is to get the bo1:s out of the major. BO2:s with no ots, winner 2, draw 1, loss 0. The format where you can ban 3 maps for first two matches advances teams to playoffs that have no place being there.

49:10 Herts as an old school TSM fan, loved the boys early in LoL days but now i dont really have a team i just watch whatever tournaments are on if i cant catch them live or as a rerun i also dont have a favorite team for any game anymore, the orgs need to find a way to capture and keep fans.
@anu1776
@anu1776 Ай бұрын
wow, i had no idea that sticker revenue is that horrendous right now; but it makes sense, the major stickers (and basically the whole community agrees) are fucking boring, recycled garbage and sometimes even look horrible. HTLV comments and the general consensus i’ve heard is that people are actually happy when Falcons don’t succeed, and to be honest, i’m in the same boat; we love passion and not greed. Jason is a gift to the scene, wish these legendary characters could also receive stickers; and the team-logo charms are a good idea. i truly wonder why valve don’t mind all these fuck-ups? last thing, EU soloq is equal to suicide. I’m in central EU but the majority of my teammates are russian or eastern europeans and it’s beyond horrendous, i’m sorry, but it’s true.
@polymorphistYT
@polymorphistYT Ай бұрын
Jason and all of Complexity are really fighting the good fight for NA and they don't even apprechiate it. I completely disagree that the teams who have a true identity mean so much more to the scene than your average generic EU-mix team (OG, NIP, etc). I think it's fine to make an exception here for the top 5 orgs but if you're mediocre and international you might just disband honestly

If we take Richard's point about avoiding rewarding Russians in snubbing Donk but the esports awards of course awarding a player from the Saudi org because they back the awards show as well, from a geopolitical angle is that not the Saudis denying Russia an award in front of a western crowd? Like some weird Olympic politics judging thing and it's so weird playing video games has anything to do with geopolitics in the first place and i miss when it didn't matter
