Fact of the matter is the better physical capabilities are the result of economic growth after 1991 and research shows that Indians from a very early age are now being able to eat better... In quantity as well as quantity...

True.. the loss of physical stature is due to the generations that suffered malnutrition in british rule. Our future generations will be even bettwr and thats when we can compete in olympics also. Cricket is more of a skill and mind game than physical.

There is an element of truth but dont believe it is just malnutrition. Most of the cricketers before 1991 were not from poor families. It is just that importance to fitness and muscle build up was less dueing those days... for example:my father is 6 feet tall, he is 73years now. And just think of dara singh, he was a big man... its because there was focus on building the body and fitness... rest of common population didnt focis on muscle building

@@sm734 i dont deny. The thing with cricket is it is more a skill and mental game than pysical. But it is not nutrition alone, but that plays an important role in athletics

The physique(height) and mass must be given to the green revolution. Simply, nutrients intake in india has increased, malnutrition has decreased. It takes time to see effect but 3-4 decades are enough. Yes gym work is needed to get fitness but the base of good height and body comes from nutrition in childhood, not fitness culture. Its a reflection of the nutrition of entire country, not just the team.

Bullshit by Gavaskar, he will never give you an honest answer. Till the 90s Indian team selection wasn't done based on merit barring a few exceptions, it was done mostly by reference and lobbying. Things changed after Ganguly became captain. Very few from Mumbai will agree to it and some even hate him for it to this day. Ask the current Indian coach. Ganguly changed Indian cricket once and for all and as Greg Chappell had once worriedly remarked, we're now set to get our act right.
@flmybuff
@flmybuff 3 жыл бұрын
Well, you are right about lobbying. But it is not Ganguly who brought the change but Dalmiya. Selection panel broaden and was asked to observe even the small town matches. Also other reason is zone wise quota. You pick what you see the reason why metro cities players were got chances ahead of the small town players. At times small town players shifted to these cities. So by giving credit to Ganguly, you are neglecting these facts. Probably you are told only about Ganguly being Bengali.
@diptamghosh4994
@diptamghosh4994 3 жыл бұрын
@@flmybuff Dalmiya did play his part nobody can deny that but he was BCCI president long before Ganguly became captain and there was hardly any change in our boys' attitude during that period. as far as i remember India won only 10-12 ODIs in 1997. Dalmiya did revolutionise the financial aspect of BCCI but he could do only as much. and FYI, Dalmiya was from Bengal too.

Ganguly didn't brought TRDW , Ganguly didn't establish NCA for nurturing young talent after under 19 and IPL. You are doing the same that Mumbai cricket lobbyist did, that is lobbying for your fellow bengali 2hi has nothing to do with the way current talent is being scout. It's the people working behind the curtains In BCCI , the likes of Dalmiya, Dileep Vengsarkar, Brijesh Patel. Makarand Waingakar of Karnataka Cricket Association was the inspiration behind the TRDW. These are the real heroes to whom all the credit goes and also to Rahul Dravid coaching young talent at NCA. Ganguly has nothing to do with the inception and establishment of these efficient system in place at BCCI.
@flmybuff
@flmybuff 3 жыл бұрын
@@devendravijay3545 agree. Also the social economic upgrade in the small towns too contributed to this. Mere 1 person that too captain cannot make this happen. For god sake try and understand, he is only a captain of the team and require to get best out of the playing 11 and to an extent can play role to get best playing 11. As a captain he cannot get best out of country for states, zones, ipl etc. wake up.
@flmybuff

@@devendravijay3545 why few have a tendency to make someone hero they show others as villain. Gavaskar too was only a player when he played for India and not someone who could lobby. But people don’t give a thought before putting such negative comments about our own legends on social media. You rightly put the system perspective in this.

Gavaskar has completely missed a significant factor. The milk revolution. The present generation consume easily two times the milk, panneer and other dairy products which are great sources of protein. For some 40 years now, the national height has gone up. Indian affluence is mirrored in their improved manhood. A 6 footer in India, especially in Panjab and Delhi, is not a rarity. The kind of fortune one could make-rags to opulence, Mohammed Siraj for instance- is a massive incentive. And poor boys have brilliant examples glowing before their eyes. They are prepared to shed bullets and snap out of their poverty, mean hovels.

Utter nonsense. It is all about finding the talent and physique. It is not like Indians have started eating food only 1991 onwards. Sport is lucrative now and people from all walks of life are looking at it as a serious endeavour not a part time thing with an ONGC salary as backup. If you go out looking for a specific subset of physiques however niche it might be, you'll find at least 5-10M people like that in India. Way more than anywhere else in the world.
