Dazzler is great. Their TV releases are pretty barebones but i'm just happy someone releases this stuff. They've also released the first 3 seasons of "For all Mankind".

Hard to find, very expensive, out of print, or never printed, these four need at very least an updated hd blu-ray: Muriel's Wedding, Sexy Beast, Tie Me Up Tie Me Down, The Skin I Live In. Totally enjoyed this video, or enjoying as I type, I watch in half hour chunks:)

Great video! A point you touched on.. I think eventually boutique releases will plateau as new license opportunities dry up… and then we will see them do re-releases with different packaging types.

Back in the 80's, a VHS sold for $80 to $90. Which is $230 when you adjust for today's inflation.

Yeah, prices. I'd love to collect all the limited Second Sight stuff but they're just that bit too dear for my tastes. So i buy all their standard releases. Arrow, for me, hits the sweet spot with their pricing for their limited editions.Their booklets might not be Second Sight quality (in the haptic sense) but their releases are also 10-20€ cheaper.

If they do only limited or pricey special editions I’m tapping out on physical media. For me the movie comes first, not the packaging. Not going to pay 85€ and more for conan 4K special edition movies and not even with subtitles in my language, while I can get them on blu ray for less then 20€ each with subtitles. Bought interstellar for 14€ new on 4K.

Ken, I recommend starting with Kurosawa films as an entry point into Asian cinema. Criterion released many of his films but I’d say start with Throne of Blood. It’s a decent into madness Macbeth adaptation set in feudal Japan. It’s an incredibly atmospheric black & white film and there’s even elements of horror involved. Not to mention the lead actor Toshiro Mifune as the lead turns in a phenomenal performance. It was a blind buy and has become possibly my favorite film of all time and kicked open the door to Japanese films for me.

Dazzler did 4k of Dear Evan Hansen in the UK as well. I have gotten into VS partner label Altered Innocence. I’ve pre ordered Southern Comfort and Existenz was excellent. Looking at Phase IV.

I have a nice library of films in my collection and will always have that so if they stop making physical media I do have that but what I worry about is if they stop making players. What will I watch it with if my player succumbs to wear and tear and time but there is nothing to replace it?

This is something that never gets talked about but have been thinking of for awhile. The only thing I can suggest is to getting another player to mothball, even a PS5 or Series X should be considered. I got a back-up region free Lazer branded Blu Ray, it was fairly cheap but apparently they use Sony optical drives which is a selling point to a degree. I reckon it plays a standard Blu Rays slightly more vibrantly than my 4K player. You might have to get into getting some compressed air and blowing the insides out. That and adding a dab of isopropl to the laser every now and then. It'd be great if an industry insider did a "State of Physical Media Players" video wouldn't it?

The question of streaming movies not being "movies" because they're on streaming... (around 26 minutes in) ...I can see your point but your logic would carryover to tv movies from back in the day. Some were forgettable, but some were really good, and it would be a shame if they weren't preserved. The one that comes to mind for me is the 1985 tv movie from Wes Craven called Chiller. The cast, and Wes, have all been involved in movies that were released theatrically and it's a good low budget thriller.

I didn't really mean that they weren't actual films or had any artistic merit, just that if there was no chance of them being preserved on actual disc and treated like disposable content, then I'd rather choose to ignore their place in cinematic history.

Business Mistake there isnt enough 4k remastered Concerts in Dolby Atmos!! Dire Straits, Pink Floyd, Iron Maiden, ACDC. ..you draw new customers and the Audiophiles into the 4k and hometheater market. Otherwise Streaming on tablet with earbuds looks fine for 😮 kids.
