After the disappointing launch of Street Fighter 5, fans of the series had hoped that the developer would ensure that its successor would get off to a much better start, and last year, that’s exactly what happened.
Street Fighter 6 launched in June of 2023 to widespread positivity and acclaim, with critics and players alike showering the game with praise for its core mechanical strength, the bevy of content it had on offer, the way it improved on the series’ formula, and more.
But with the game now roughly a year old, how exactly has it fared in its first post-launch year? Honestly, these kinds of "One Year Later" reviews should be the standard for live-service games across gaming news and reviews outlets. The state of an online game on-release and a year later could be vastly different. Or alternatively, if a live-service game dies under a year, there could be a journalistic investigation into why it happens in the first place.

Yup - MK1 got me, and I've been looking for another good modern fighter, but with SF6 and Tekken 8 doing basically the same thing or worse (I didn't even think that was possible - but here we are), I think I'll just go into my back catalog and play my old games. Charging over $100 for the "all included" version of a game and then trying to scam me for more money is a no go from me.

I would just get the Standard version. Not all DLC characters are worth it (Rashid and Ed for example) even Akuma is not the same as he was in SF5 or SF4... I mean he's not a bad character but yes he's very different now. I'm looking forward to get Bison... Then Terry Bogard and Elena next year 👍.

Not only that the 8-frame delay made a lot of people angry when playing online, and the game received significant backlash. SF6 1st Year>>>>>>SF5 1st year by far, and it isn't even close, the sales numbers, the total average amount of players playing showcase that, along with the continuously higher tournament entries on top of it. SF5 eventually became an excellent game, but it took years, so just stop it. I agree with you that gameplay wise, their are things I like more from SF5 to SF6, however overall as a fighting game, and what it gives and brings, I disagree.

i really like SF6, but im general i totally agree with this. All in, aggressive offense or bust. Cant play your own way or style. It is kinda disheartening. And its in other games too, like sports games. Or sport / fighting like UFC. The last 2 entries have been play the meta way or die. So opposite of how mma should be.

@@nunyabizwacks6711 These are reasons why Street Fighter II Hyper Fighting will always be my #1 SF/Fighting game of all time. Multiple player archetypes, and styles, if you want to play aggressively, characters like Boxer are for you, however if you want a dominant footsie character, their is Chun-Li, you want that fireball zoner, Sagat is your guy...you want that passive/aggressive character who can do everything really well, Ryu is your guy, samething with Guile. My goodness, I could go on, and on, and not everyone was "rush down", they played to their strengths, and my big gripe with SF6 is the Drive Rush itself...it's like..wait for hit, activate DR and go into a high-damaging option. I miss the old days of SF2, when two sweeps would equate to huge damage...but it's the past now sadly. Regardless, out of the Big named fighting games out right now, SF6 is still the most enjoyable out of all of them to play.

Sf6 always has 9000 people tuning in to watch it on twitch while tekken 8 or mk1 struggle to hit 3k and 2k, respectively. Sf6 is by far the most popular fighting game this generation. I've heard some good things about tekken recently though. I hear they've fixed some stuff up but idk how deep it goes. Mk1 however is just not in a very good place. It seems like even their fan base is disappointed in it. Hopefully they get the game that they deserve

@@rundown132it’s not a matter of adapting, it’s just not fun to play against the same characters again and again in ranked because they are OP with modern controls. I would not mind in regular match, but in ranked it’s just not fair. And yes I could learn to play modern, but I want to stick to classic as I do since SFII on Super Famicom, while it is still possible. The controls are part of SF legacy.

It's a skill issue If you can't consistently win with Classic or Modern no excuses, you either don't fully understand what your fighter can do or lack timing & spacing fundamentals. Fighting games are ALWAYS about adapting and overcoming the challenge. No shame in putting down a game if your not having fun but REAL fighting games are supposed to be hard.

I think it’s mediocre at best I mean the lack of single player content is ridiculous and have only four characters in one year and they cost a fortune and you can’t earn them as you play.
