This plan sounds great, you are very smart, it suits your plans, everything seems to be focused and organised, good job :D. I am looking forward towards the documentaries. Also i have used afterfx..i thought it was a nightmare, if you are looking for advanced editing then it will suit you, however there is adobe premier which does a similar thing, except its more beginner friendly...i used you for insipiration for some collage work...lets just say your battle of Cannae is a much, much higher quality...i liked that format, the length is great, because you can grab some snacks and eat as you watch, as opposed to the video finnishing before you are done eating xD

I've always been a fan of your TW content as I liked how you played Rome 2 differently to most players which made it so interesting, but since you started to do your documentaries the channel for me has been so much better. your love of history is easy to see in the amount of time and effort you put in your documentaries so keep them up! I hope 2017 a good year for you and your channel. (ps wouldn't mind if your channel was 90% docs and 10% TW haha)

Poll submitted. Really enjoying the channel. Subbed a few years back but somehow missed your amazing documentaries! So recently I've watched them all. Particularly enjoyed the battle of Cannae documentary, with the solider cam. It is good to hear you like Historia Civillis. A collab would work well I think, due to the similarity of yet complimentary orginality of both of your content. Or any collab would be cool really. Either way keep up the good work man. And happy new year.

i actually prefer the longer, more in depth documentaries but i understand that some topics are shorter/ we don't quite know as much. also sometimes topics are just better suited to shorter videos, like the roman navy documentary is shorter then the roman legions series because the legions have more to work with. I really like the idea of covering fictional history as if it were real, especially in universes that have alot of lore like Game of Thrones and Warhammer and LoTR. Personally i think watching the footage of roman soldiers marching into battle and fighting is awesome, but if the best you can do is animated maps or something closer to Historia Civilis thats fine. P.S. Check out the channel CivilizationEx they have some great content surrounding the lore of fictional universes and it might help you when researching.

Hey Oakley, really happy to see you looking forward and keep working to develop the channel, community and content. I have been following the channel for quite some time and as a student of economics with a great interest for history and escpecially military history, I approve of the way you aproach the shaping of the channel. You present a bottom layer of enthusiastic passion and genuine curiosity which you try to tailor to your audience through analytic work and marketing. I must also add the honest opinion that the documentary stuff is what i come to the channel for, it also seems like that is what you enjoy the most yourself and put the most effort into. But i see the need to consistently drop content, and that would be impossible with the heavily reasearched content. Wish you all the best in the new year, I am looking forward to seeing what you can bring to KZbin!
@InvictaHistory8 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the long reply, its much appreciated. It really does seem that most people are here or at least stick around for the documentaries. Your plans are very ambitious and I wish you success with it all. I just really hope you plan on working smart, not just harder and maybe find people to share the workload with, so you don't end up overworking yourself and burn out trying to accomplish all of these amazing goals you have. Would hate to stop seeing your uploads in my subscription feed (is that what you call it?). Anyway, I completed your survey - best of luck and Happy New Years!

I didn't know that you collaborated on the Storms & Shipwrecks exhibition - I saw it several times! I really enjoyed it. You might remember that wrote a comment on your Republican Fleet Tactics video complimenting you and saying I would share your documentaries with colleagues. In a typically "small world twist", I am at Oxford studying maritime archaeology. You'll find me if you check out the videos on my channel as well as the School of Archaeology website. I started an email to my supervisor about all of this, but had to leave it for a little while because thesis work took over and then I had to run home to take care of a family member for a month or so. I'll pick the email up again and try to send it out over the next couple of days. Well done and keep up the good work!

Wow thats such an interesting field of study. I really wish I could have made it to the exhibit, it must have been amazing! I saw in your video that you studied in Berkeley which is cool because thats where I currently live. If you ever end up back here feel free to let me know.
@HermesSonofZeus8 жыл бұрын
The exhibit was amazing! Even full professors liked it; serious people who know what they are talking about. Well done on contributing to it! Yes! It is interesting. I've been doing it for so long, though, that I can't wait to be finished with this piece of it, i.e. the degree. Looking forward to the next thing, whatever it is. Those videos were made years ago and were meant to be audition videos for something that I'm glad I didn't get in the end. It's funny the way that works sometimes. Imma try ta get back down to that fighting weight, though. ;-) I did go to Berkeley! Unfortunately, I haven't been back in over ten years, but it is a great place to live. Love it there - been away too long. My roommate in Oxford wants to move back to Berkeley as soon as possible. I'll definitely let you know if I come back. If you're ever in the UK and want a tour of Oxford, just let me know!

I love you for this. I'd really like to see a video documentary about several lesser known ancient armies, such as Songhai, Ethiopia, or Mesoamerican tribes. I also have a question which you or anyone can answer: How do you use music from movies, tv shows, and the TW games in your documentaries? I vaguely understand that while playing a game with original music, you are not under strict copyright laws, but I don't see how this works for other media, and with TV/Films.
@512types8 жыл бұрын
You mentioned a Dan Carlin partnership. During the original Rome 2 release Dan Carlin, Gregory Aldrete, Creative Assembly, myself, and a friend were going to do a Legendary play-through showing the highlights and battles with the historians acting as documentary/narrator commentators in an alternate-history. I unfortunately had to shut down the project because I was too busy with other stuff but it's a concept that gathered a lot of interest and Dan Carlin was already open too. Feel free to use the concept if you want and I could make an intro(s) for you. (Aldrete was a classic professor of the year and has a Teaching Company lecture series on ancient warfare)

I don't have fb, so can't post the poll. Anyway, first of all I wish you a great new year. Secondly, I'll be against the removal of subjects like the Roman Naming video etc. because this content makes the channel unique. Lastly, I'd be happy to see more in depth and longer historic videos, though I do enjoy sub-commanders and massive battles. As for a new suggestion, although I think it will take more time due to longer research, but I'd like to see a recap of the commander's or leader's life as a tie in to the campaign. For example Caesar or Alexander etc. maybe about some less known leaders like persian kings etc.
@RMBGrFalls8 жыл бұрын
I hope you will remain focused on quality of all you do. Don't be seduced by Facebook. It's fine for posting what you have done, but beyond that it consumes lots of time in pointless and uninformed discussion and encourages drivel. Your 'behind the scenes' material is excellent - logistics, war machine design, etc. We forget how important those matters are. Your battle recreations and extensions are marvelous. Bravo ! Do everything well. We support that and you !

I like everything you do, but I must admit I have simply not had time to catch your documentaries and hadn't even noticed the additional parts to the siege of Jerusalem. I think one of the problems is that there are multiple lengths to things put out and when a great deal is uploaded at once I tend to watch shorter videos and save long ones for when I have time, this means they inevitably slip off the end of my list to watch. Not trying to dissuade you from the video documentaries, as the ones I've seen have been good, just pointing out an issue with longer documentaries from my viewers' perspective.

Regarding the first question of the poll though, I subscribed to watch all of those, although not so much for the Total War Warhammer content. For me TWW is a great game, but not as compelling to watch as Rome II or Attilla. It just looks/feels too arcadey.
