I disagree that Feige didn't know well in advance about Disney buying Fox. Employees would know before it was news to the general audience even heard rumors. He would have been able to structure a story well thought out far enough in advance. I assume the Multiverse Saga was placed after the Infinity Saga because he knew he'd be getting access IP's he didn't have before. With how deals like that work he knew with enough time that it wasn't any problem that the twenty seconds talks about. Dealing with all the other issues (the pandemic, Gunn's firing, Majors' legal trouble, Chadwick's death [which was also more warning than most the other stuff based off interviews], Chapek, and the strike, the poor working conditions of the VFX teams) were the real issues. I also think this saga is supposed to feel disconnected in terms of no Avengers. That's another reason I think the point of this saga was to have an in-universe reason to bring in other IP's. It's a good idea on paper, but didn't work as well as it could have with all the outside forces mentioned in the previos paragraph at play. And even if none of those outside forces happened, it still may not have worked, but we'll never know. Considering how far in advance the MCU team is in comparison to what is released and even what's rumored, I've always given them the benifit of the doubt. You explaining the answers of what a good chunk of the internet has been compaining about, MCU-wise, since the pandemic was fantastic. I love the MCU and I'm eagerly awaiting _What If...? S3_

12:30 but in 2018 although there are a lot of things to watch, it was not felt like mandatory because you can skip the netflix stuff and still catching on with the main narrative. AND most casuals dont realize the existence of the netflix and other streaming series anw. I dated a girl who is into MCU at the time, but she's quite casual and only follow the movies so she never aware about it. and she still can follow the story just fine. While post disney plus era, the plan was shifted to make the series as important as the movies thats why most people think it feels more like a chore these days.
@AbitofEverything4U19 күн бұрын
Yep, very fair comments. That said, I think that for the most part you can skip the Disney+ shows and just watch the movies. For instance, Agatha's show could be summed up as Agatha escaped the spell she was under, died, and is now a ghost and Billy's spirit reincarnated into a new body. So I suspect many of the casual MCU fans will skip the shows and just watch a recap vid, if desired.

I think also the producers were very calculating in how they did things for 2024.... We know since Quantumania and Marvels bombed in 2023 the MCU began to re-think everything but it still took a while for everyone to notice the changes. 1- Pushing multiple projects back to give them breathing room (only releasing 1 movie in 2024) and to give more time to VFX teams... even if projects like Ironheart or Wonderman could've been out sooner but they committed to this being "breather" year 2- Taking the time to re-tool things if need be-- spending a lot of time and money on redoing Cap 4 and Daredevil Born Again... while I'm sure it'll be expensive I think Marvel will think it's worth it to protect the brand moving forward 3- Letting good 2024 projects shine-- X-Men 97 and Agatha were released weekly and built popularity and of course Deadpool 3 dominated the summer 4-Letting the "less good" 2024 come and go-- Echo dropped all at once and What If S3 dropped daily because they knew weekly releases wouldn't build hype so they released those with little fanfare (even though those weren't terrible projects either) 5- Creating "divisions" between the movies, shows, and animation (though i don't think that really matters for hardcore fans though... we all know it's the same thing).. but more importantly there's a new hierarchy in terms of how involved producers are... we know Brad Winderbaum is the lead on the Disney+ content directly under Fiege now. 6- Spending 2024 comic con only talking about the 3 movies we know for a FACT will release in 2025 and won't get delayed or switched around... no more slate announcements that show off things years away that might not even happen... 2019 announcements didn't age well so no need to replicate that (even though as you listed out the reasons, not all of it was MCU's fault) 7- Kevin Fiege has been talking up Fantastic Four more than anything else... clearly Quantumania was supposed to be the "hype builder" for the multiverse Avengers movies but since people hated it, they're now pivoting to Fantastic Four being the "thing' to explain how the multiverse works and setting up a new popular villain/actor as well... obviously not everyone isn't on board with the course correction of Doom/RDJ but you can't deny it won't stop people from showing up with their wallets and of course if they pull it off then nobody will complain anymore

Man I am so glad you made this video I hear it all the time that people thinks that marvel chose to have quantity over quality when that’s not really the case. They chose quantity without the quality and that’s a big difference. Like you said 2018 was the biggest year for marvel and it’s widely beloved as possibly one of the best years for marvel ever. You CAN have quantity AND quality, as long as you choose to do it right and don’t rush anything. I really hope the fans break free of this idea and that Disney doesn’t give into this idea despite their quotes. Because we can have more great projects instead of less great projects if we encourage marvel not to make less, but to ensure quality is there. Otherwise we’ll just end up with less of the content we like, less connections and less questions answered.

Know this is not related to this video but: a theory I have for what if S3 is that ep6,7,8&9 will be like a domino effect of each other rather than 1-6 being seperate stories. With 6 being the emergent in earth, maybe the watcher saves all the lives and hides them away by sending them to 1872 so they don’t die. Whenever it’s a period timeline like 1601 there is a reason why. And then ep7 can be the watchers punishment for doing this and then ep8 can be the resolution.

@AbitofEverything4U21 күн бұрын
Great question! I'd say they need to succeed at most of the benchmarks from the vid. In other words: 1. Thunderbolts and CA 4 need to make us feel like Phase 5 truly ended in a way that brings the different storylines together. 2. The majority of the 9 2025 releases need to get good reviews and feel like they are the same level of quality as 2024 entries. 3. The 2025 releases need to address around 25 or so of the open questions. 4. We need to see several of the 9 potential teams forming or be heavily hinted at forming. 5. What If Season 3 or Fantastic 4 need to make the multiversal model more clear to get fans on the same page and excited about Avengers 5 and 6 If most of these items are met or exceeded, then I think 2025 will be a huge success!

Great breakdown! However, I don’t know if it’s fair to include the earlier Daredevil, Jessica Jones, etc series. Great feedback! Yeah, you are 100% correct about that. In fact, that's why I wanted to show the scores before adding those in and then show the scores afterwards. It is still interesting to see how the Netflix shows impacted things and it also shows that there may have been a quantity vs. quality issue even back in 2017 - 2019!
@Merione20 күн бұрын
Speaking of the multiverse, do you think that after Secret Wars we will still have an open multiverse, or will we go back to only having one main reality to follow, just like it was in Phases 1-3? On one side I would like them to simplify things a little bit and make things less confusing, but on the other I can see how closing the multiverse forever would hurt the potential for storytelling going forward. Maybe a good compromise could be to have stories set in different universes, so that people can choose which ones they want to follow, but limiting the interactions between those universes to a minimum, so that you don't feel like you HAVE to watch everything just to understand what's going on. Essentially you could have multiple "canons" running parallel to each other, and sometimes they can crossover, but not too much. In fact, one thing you didn't mention in the video that also contributes to explain the fatigue is this expectation that every single project is important to the main story. They are finally starting to move away from it, with things like the special presentations or Marvel Spotlight, but there's still a long way to go to make everything more streamlined again.
@AbitofEverything4U20 күн бұрын
Yeah, I admit that I have no clue what they are going to do with the multiverse. My gut tells me it will be something like you stated. Perhaps something will happen that ensures the multiverse is safe from incursions and issues. I do think they want to move away from the threat of different universes colliding and causing issues. Also, that's a good point about how everything is still very important to the overall storyline. But that said, I do think you can skip things, if desired. For instance, much as I loved Agatha, I suspect you could skip that and just get a recap that Agatha has died and is a ghost and Billy came back as Wiccan. Then, if someone wanted to know how all that happened, they watch the series. Even DP&W could be summarized as Deadpool found some friends in the void (X-23 and Wolverine) and the 10005 universe is reset and they are now part of it. In the end, I think fans can pick and choose whether they want all the details or just want to watch a spoiler recap vid. But I agree that not everyone views it that way. Anyway, fantastic comments as always!
@Merione20 күн бұрын
@@AbitofEverything4U Yeah, I agree, As I said, they are slowly moving away from that view. Both the examples that you mentioned are very recent projects, so I'm not surprised, but if you go back to things like Wandavision that directly set up MoM, or all the craziness that happened with Loki S1 and S2 and the impact that it had over everything else, you can see how there can be projects that are much less "skippable" than others. They seem to have understood that this is not sustainable anymore, and we've already been seeing the results, which is a great thing!

Constructive thoughts - Hindsight 20/20 - Feige should have just focused more on another 6-10 characters after endgame and did the multiverse that way. We’ve just gotten way too many projects and different characters which, watered all of them down & hurt the brand. I know COVID + the strikes hurt as well, but just their scope and wanting to do Secret Wars was absolutely nuts. Will it work out? I’m sure it will but the facts that we haven’t gotten a Shang Chi sequel, any information on DS3, SM4, what Star Lord will be doing, ect. There’s just a lot of heavy hitters that have been sidelined for much lesser characters. I’m still optimistic about the future though. Iger coming back and wanting quality over quantity vs Bob Paycheck has and will be best moving forward!

Good point! The expanding of so many new heroes did indeed create issues. I suspect that was another Chapek demand, but still, it definitely caused issues and made it so that follow-up storylines (like for Shang Chi) are taking waaaaaay too long!

Eternals is a HUGE factor in the difference of opinion in Phase 4's movies. But it's worth pointing out that aside from No Way Home and Shang-Chi, every other movie shows the critics with a percentage point difference of at least 10%. That is, 10% lower than the audience score.

To my understanding, Feige HATES Agents of SHIELD. Perlmutter pushed it through. Feige never wanted to have a show out of his control. He didn't want Coulson to not be dead. That's why he didn't acknowledge it in Age of Ultron or anywhere else. At first Agents of SHIELD did a really good job of adjusting their story around what the movies were doing. They slotted Thor 2 in easily and Captain America 2,they did a fantastic job of integrating those events! I loved it because it was not unlike when Marvel Comics have a big event and the monthly books need to accommodate it. It takes creativity and teamwork to do it in a way that feels organic. After Age of Ultron they just stopped trying! The movie side basically wasn't giving the TV side anything and Feige was getting tired of Perlmutter and even threatened to quit if Iger didn't get Perlmutter out of the equation. This is all covered in the History of the MCU book that came out last year. All of which to say this is why I don't expect AOS to ever be formally acknowledged as Canon. The later seasons in particular don't line up with the movies at all. And I think it's a real shame that they didn't keep up the integration. To me it seems like an easy way for Marvel to promote their films by having the show connect to events in at least the Earth bound movies! Think about it. Mitchell Carson takes off with stolen Pym particles in Ant-Man and the Agents of SHIELD could have been tasked with recovering them. And then later they could have had to have some kind of response to the Sokovia Accords. Maybe their official mandate was to enforce them but in reality they were keeping tabs on Enhanced people because their sympathies were with Team Cap. There was tons of possibilities there. As for Agent Carter, I think the only reason they aren't calling that Canon is because Endgame seems to rewrite it. It's hard to say whether or not the show actually happens post-Endgame or not. What year did Steve return and what timeline for that matter? It's a fascinating question.

I know this is a hot take but I don't think the MCU ever dropped in quality after Endgame Phase 4 is my favorite phase and I think Bob Chepek was right to pump out content because as someone paying for Disney Plus I want new content constantly just like you'd get from other streaming services. I'm someone who watched the whole Arrowverse even when people were saying it dropped in quality I was happy to have multiple superhero shows a week. I think a lot of people saying the MCU dropped in quality was really Marvel simply making content for different kinds of fans.

Enjoyed the video, but I feel I must say that’s not how RT works... The Tomatometer is the percentage of critics/audiences giving a positive review - not an overall “grade,” if that makes any sense. I feel it’s an important distinction to make. Also, Captain Marvel was subject to a coordinated review bomb effort on its audience score that led to RT to modify their review system and now you can only post a review if you purchased a ticket through Fandango.
@AbitofEverything4U20 күн бұрын
Great feedback! I agree, I should have been more clear that the RT scores aren't a grade but instead just a benchmark to compare different movies and shows. Sorry that I didn't make that more clear. Really sad when that happens. Anyway, fantastic feedback. Thanks so much!

Hello! I haven't really watched the video yet, but I needed to tell you something. I was rewatching season one of What If in preparation for the third one this weekend. Well, last one I watched was "what if Ultron won?" and I think I found a... mistake? I have never seen anyone pointing it out, so I came to tell you in case you're interesed. The thing is: Party Thor's episode ends with Infinity Ultron arriving at Thor's universe, and Uatu is surprised to see this. Then, in the next episode, Uatu tells this Ultron's story and ends up fighting him. The point is, Ultron can only travel the multiverse after having acknowledged the Watcher. How could he go to Party Thor's universe then? Again, I don't know if this was ever brought to your attention, but I would like to hear your opinion on the matter. Thanks to anyone who reads.
@AbitofEverything4U20 күн бұрын
Yeah, I agree, that's very confusing. In episode 9 we see that the ultron bots are fighting Thor and the Watcher shows up to recruit Thor to be a Guardian of the Multiverse. But I agree that the Watcher being surprised in Episode 7 is odd. Seems like a small continuity error, tbh.

With all due respect, it's misleading to say that the MCU had the most entries in 2018. While Feige may have adopted certain properties like Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and Daredevil into the MCU years after they were produced, Feige and the rest of Marvel Studios had nothing to do with the production of those shows. Unlike in 2018, Feige has a hand in every one of these productions in 2025. I think 2025 may look more akin to 2021, which also had 9 projects come out under the Marvel Studios banner. I think it's too much of a good thing, and I won't be surprised if the results are very mixed.
@AbitofEverything4U15 күн бұрын
Very fair feedback. The reason I still went with 2018 is that Marvel was at least seeming to acknowledge all of those shows as canon at the time. Feige wasn't responsible for them and that ofc lead to them being de-canonized (with Netflix later being recanonized), but to the average fan, everything in 2018 from Marvel was viewed as MCU canon and thus it feels like a fair equivalent. As for 2025, you could very well be right about things being mixed due to having 9 entries. My hope is we get alot more surprises like Agatha's show (never would have guessed that could be so good), but we'll have to wait and see. Really appreciate you watching the vid and sharing your feedback. Thanks so much!

I really hope Bob Iger learns from what is likely to be a successful year for Marvel in 2025, that you can release quantity while still retaining quality, so long as each movie and show has plenty of time to be FINISHED. To be as good as they possibly can before they're released. Why do I hope he learns that? Well, frankly, my first thought when he said Marvel is pulling back on releases is that he's not going to change how they produce content, but how much they produce at once. But that BARELY addresses the problem. They're still going to be rushing things to meet deadlines. Look at Black Panther. That was STILL having VFX work done on it the week it released, and people still clown on that final fight because it looks rushed and unfinished, but had to be released anyway. Any of the bad shots in recent phases? Can be fixed with one thing: more time. I'm sure VFX studios will feel immense relief from not having to do 30 different Marvel projects a year with hard deadlines, and that's good. But if they didn't have hard deadlines the studios wouldn't have to go overtime or have to crunch, and they could still work on 30 things a year with little stress. As far as I'm concerner, Eternals is the best looking Marvel movie there is, maybe tied with the first Doctor Strange. But you don't get that level of quality by simply having less to work on. Bob Iger is also seeking to make the shows cheaper. Unsurprising, his only priority is lining his pockets more, but that does help VFX workers, too. Cheaper budgets mean the shows are forced to be as practical as possible. They'll have little VFX work done to them (compared to other shows or the movies). But, say the less frequent releases and cheaper shows (and/or movies) fixes the VFX issue. What happens when someone pitches a show that can't realistically be told for cheap or mostly practical? Do they butcher the show into a film format? Or do they just not make it at all? Because that's kinda disappointing and restrictive as far as storytelling goes. And it likely means that many characters just won't ever show up again, or for the first time. And if they do, their stories might not be as interesting. Not to mention they won't be seen again for years on end with the all the new characters we have.
@AbitofEverything4U20 күн бұрын
Excellent feedback. I agree, I hope Iger is learning the right lessons. 2018 showed that we can have quality and quantity at the same time. That said, I do like that they are trying to limit CGI where it makes sense. Agatha is a great example, as it was done with mostly practical effects and it looked amazing. So I'm fine with more practical stuff. But I agree with you, they need to still use CGI where needed, as you point out. Again, excellent feedback!

Great questions! So for the pre-Disney+ shows such as Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Cloak & Dagger, Runaways, etc, they were produced by Marvel and were originally considered part of the sacred timeline. However, it now seems Marvel is treating them like a branch, since they aren't listed on the Disney+ timeline. I feel like I have the exact opposite opinion of you and most of the other comments. I feel like this year just made me almost completely give up on the MCU. I wanted to give them the benefit of a doubt and trust they had a plan. But when they announced RDJ as Doom and Chris Evans was coming back. It just made me realise they never had a plan and this entire saga has been a complete waste of time. So this year is probably the worst in terms of my perception of this franchise. I just felt like I completely wasted my time giving a shit about this saga at all. That they would just turn around and go full on nostalgia for something that happened 5 years ago. Like I just don't understand the plan post secret Wars. If apocalypse doesn't work out in the mutant saga. Are we just going to bring Chris Hemsworth back and say he's Mr. Sinsister? What are we even doing anymore.

And hopefully by the time we get to Doomsday, we'll have a better understanding of how RDJ fits into everything.

I'm important to remember rotten tomatoes scores are percentages of how many people liked for disliked it not how much they liked it. A 98% does not equal critics giving it 9.8/10, if 100% of critics give something 7/10 it would still get 100% ect.

I agree the captain marvel audience score is too harsh, but Black Panther at 79 is very normal to me. Thats one of the most overrated MCU movies even though its still pretty solid. I also find it weird to include Netflix shows in that argument about too much quantity and quality control. Those weren't officially part of the MCU when coming out. I mean now that technically the Fox movies are cannon because of D+W why not include X-Men 2000 as a year in the MCU? Lol.
@AbitofEverything4U12 күн бұрын
Good question about including the Netflix shows in that quantity over quality illustration. I'm pretty sure the assumption was that those shows were canon when they came out. It was only after the fact when they didn't show up on the D+ timeline when that platform launched that people began to question it. But when they were released, it was assumed they were part of the MCU.
@peak851019 күн бұрын
rotten tomatoes doesn't do an actual rating of the movie. for example with deadpool & wolverine the 78% means that 78% gave it a 6 or higher. not that its an 8/10 movie. so with ms marvel 98% gave it a 6 or higher not that its a 10/10

Great points! It's more of an indication of how many people liked a given entry vs. how many didn't. So it's a nice way to look at the MCU entries over time and look for overall fan satisfaction.

Marvel is definitely changing course with Dr. Doom, but I suspect Feige will still tie everything together. I'd love to see Dr. Doom wiping out the Kang Council, for instance.

Yeah not.... mcu not coming together.... i agree, cap. 4, thunderbolts are gonna assemble those characters.... and fan. Four with multiverse.... And it is a very good stratrgy to have more grounded ptojects in 2025 fir people to watch them and then become "thirsty" of multiversal

Well said! Yeah, I think 2025 will be a pivotal year for the MCU!

I suspect alot of fans agree with you, based on that score. I liked it myself...nothing spectacular but had alot of fun moments. But I respect that it wasn't everyone's cup of tea.

@AbitofEverything4U I'm still mad cause it was one of the projects in that phase I was most looking forwards too, what they did to hulk in that shit pissed me off the most tho

Yeah, I definitely agree. It could’ve been so much better. The writing was the biggest issue for sure.

Yeah i gotta say idk what people saw bad with black panther 1. 2 sure that has is issues. But the main ones were the main character not being around any more. But had to blame marvel for not recasting. Because even though i say they should have recast, I'm looking at Harrison Ford thinking William hurt would have been better... Captain marvel, i see where prolly are coming from. Main character comes off as unlikable. And even if she may grow on you, an alien cat taking out Nick fury's eye is enough to enrage anyone... So that's the old friend that betrayed him from the winter soldier... What if season 2 i can tell you why people don't like it. For one i barely remember what happened. The one thing i do remember is they turned happy hogan into a purple hulk because... Hulk Hogan..... Sigh groan cringe.... Another thing is your fan fiction if what if stories that could have been were so much more entertaining than the ones season 2 gave us.

Yknow honestly I don’t think the quality has really shifted that much but I think the perception of it really has, for example Quantumania certainly isn’t as bad as Thor 2 or Iron Man 2 but those are perceived better. I think we’re on the upswing now though with Chapek out of the way and finally moving on from the repercussions of COVID, I think how good Fantastic Four is looking is a good example of Marvel Studios renewed focus

Great point! Yeah, it seemed with Phase 4 that critics turned on the MCU and were much harsher than it deserved. I'm glad things seemed to have turned around and I'm really looking forward to 2025!

Please. Stop adding X-Men '97 in the MCU videos. They are not in the MCU. They have explicitly said this show is NOT part of the MCU.
@AbitofEverything4U20 күн бұрын
Good question! So I’m including the show because Marvel includes it in the MCU Multiverse section on Disney+ and also because storm is appearing and What If season 3. So hopefully we’ll learn more about whether the X-Men 97 show is part of the MCU Multiverse very soon!

One thing to keep in mind is that the Rotton Tomatoes system for TV shows is very flawed. This short explains it well: kzbin.infoUnD3mEaOBs8?si=XHYGgC6qRv0dccm2 but the gist is that they tabulate the scores regardless of how much of the show you've seen. If a critic reviews only one episode positively, it would still count as a positive review. So that might explain some scores like from Ms. Marvel or What If.
@AbitofEverything4U21 күн бұрын
Yeah, I agree...RT score for shows is pretty shaky. I wish there was another way to get a feel for the critic and audience reaction to shows, but I don't know what to use. I do wish reviewers were not allowed to rate the entire show until all the episodes are out. Maybe only allowing people to rate each episode and then RT adds together all the episode scores to get a total score for a given reviewer?

@Mr_Wayne2012 I'm not sure I trust IMDB any more than RT, tbh. Metacritc is pretty good though.
