David, it’s not pompous at all of you to recognise your own importance to the moment. Your knowledge, insight , energy and erudition is an essential element in helping us navigate out of our predicament whilst developing the blueprint necessary to repair the damage when that day comes. I’ve often noted how essential you are to the wider movement. Indeed, the right* political vessel has still to emerge, but there are a few (too few) prominent individuals , each in their different though essential to the movement domains, and some perhaps more earthy than you would like 😉, who are laying the path upon which this future individual will walk. It is my great fear that our opportunity comes only to fail owing to a lack of rigorous forward thinking and planning. In this way, what you are doing for us, for the country, is no less consequential than what we hope that political leader will one day do. You are preparing the torch, the public will light it, and I pray the right politician will arise to carry it forward. Simply put: no you, no torch. 🙏💐 *unintentional pun

Not all minorities are the same. Pre 1832 and 1867 the minority was an oligarchy that was deeply invested in the idea of England. The oligarchs and those associated with it (eg the CoE) owned most of the land. The oligarchy then recruited the new industrialists and plutocrats. They knew they were likely to be killed if the oligarchy was overthrown. The historic threats had been real:- Charles 1 of Spain in 1588, Napoleon in 1805. Louis XIV was too busy fighting the Dutch and the Spanish to invade. But he might have. Like the North American colonists they knew that if they did not hang together they would hang separately. The minorities today are not deeply invested in England. They dont believe in its institutions or its history.
